Max Capacity
My wagon needs a new up pipe, the 8 y/o Invidia which I had welded at the lower flange two years ago finally cracked at the top flange. Pretty much all the way around. Ordered the parts from Import Image Racing. The catted down pipe came today. Still waiting for the up pipe and the Grimmspeed adapter. Max Capacity
Have the parts already to go, anti-seize compound on the threads. I'll also add I'm glad I use anti-seize compound on all threads. I did have one bolt that holds the turbo to the up pipe that came out hard, had to use my 1/2" impact gun on that one. When I got it out, it appeared that I had not put compound on it. All the other bolts and nuts came off nicely, I did spray them with Aero-Kroil before removing. SubOperator
What UP pipe did you go with? Mine 07 STI has heat shield break away from welding points, so I may have to replace it.... 2005 LGT Wagon Limited 6 MT RBP Stage 2 - 244K 2007 B9 Tribeca Limited DGM - 243K SOLD - 2005 OB Limited 5 MT Silver - 245K SOLD - 2010 OB 6 MT Silver - 205K
Max Capacity
Invidia. Heard from Import Image Racing, the up pipe should be here tomorrow. I also bought the Grimmspeed adapter for the stock mid pipe. The Invidia up pipe can be removed and installed without having to lift the engine a little. I think I read that some pipes don't fit in without having to lift the engine. That was a long time ago, I don't really remember. You can may be slip some lockwire around your heat shield and just make it tight. I have one of the stock heat shields by the front O2 sensor lockwired. Oh, I just read your recent post where you have the engine out now. shralp
That seems to be about the life span of decent UP / DP parts. I had to replace both Cobb units when I did my forged build on the Legacy after they had been on the car 9 years. The hi flow cat in the DP was starting to fall apart and the UP was starting to fail. Based on how the car is driven I have no qualms with a part that sees tons of abuse and lasts that long. Was pretty surprised they made it that far
covertrussian
I would have went with something other then Invidia up pipe, they are too thin thus tend to crack like that. There is a good 25-30psi that happens inside the pipe, so that doesn't help the longivity. Also, I was able to install my Grimmspeed up pipe without lifting the engine, not like I can loosen my engine mounts anyway (without having to cut them out). 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg

Max Capacity
Finally got around to installing the new pipes today. Car started right up and runs well. Haven't given it to much boost yet, waiting the hear back from Tuner in case he wants to do a street tune for the catted DP. unclemat, I just never thought to check the price on a 08-09 OEM up pipe. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs.
