ilikefunkymusic
So I'm in the middle of a vf52 swap. I pull the vf46 from the car, and the intake side of the compressor wheel looks fine. The blades are in good shape. The exhaust side is another story. The edges of the blades are definitely curled over evenly, as if they've been scraping the sides. I'm really surprised, because the turbo only has 56,000 miles on it. Wanted to throw this out for discussion. I'll post pics tonight
ilikefunkymusic
So first off, apologies for the quality of the pictures. Hopefully you're able to see the condition of the blades. I wanted to put this out there, because it seems like awfully low mileage for the blades to be in this shape. Thing is, I don't know what is normal here. What are your thoughts? Max Capacity
IMO, that's not normal. Good thing your replacing it. I'm sure the expert, JmP will chime in soon. May want to have him rebuild it and then sell it or sell it now while is easy to rebuild. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
sanchitosonria
Any shaft play? What do the front fins look like?
JmP6889928
Looks like it sucked something through the turbine. What year is it? Does it have the catted up pipe and EGT still on the car? Could be something from either of those.
