TheUnsungWar
So I am having a problem with the passenger side OVS. I have read about knocking the bracket out of the way but I don't think thats my problem. It slides right past it and then is stopped by the hoses in front of it. Any idea whats in those hoses? I will try and upload some photos.

TheUnsungWar
Hey hey @xt2005bonbon for the win. That helps so much. Time to continue the work.
TheUnsungWar
So I believe I got the OVC switched. I don't have to turn the engine over to check the pending CELs, correct? I read on another thread it takes 2 15 mile drives for these codes to pop up again after resetting.
xt2005bonbon
The engine has to run so it can check the ocv angles. If one of them is not working properly, it will throw a code.
xt2005bonbon
And if you had the btssm app, you would want to log the 'vvt angles L/R'. Unit is in degrees. Both values should always be in sync. If one is not working properly, it will be obvious.
TheUnsungWar
I just got it. I'll see if I can find those values while it runs. Any chance there is a known admin around? I am having problems uploading photos to the forum album. Reason is when I took off the hoses blocking the OVC path, there is a ton of white gunk in it. O.o Wanted to upload a photo of it to get some advice.

xt2005bonbon
Those are breather hoses. White gunk may be a sign of coolant in oil? Others can chime in. do you have a vag-com cable?
TheUnsungWar
Yeah so my Veepeak ecu bluetooth adapter isn't compatible with BTSSM apparently. T-T Turned the car on and the turbo started whining.... more T-T

I do not have one. I have the bluetooth adapter previously mentioned. Just in case, there is no saving a turbo once it starts to whine right?? Darth SpecB
I do not have one. I have the bluetooth adapter previously mentioned. Just in case, there is no saving a turbo once it starts to whine right?? T-TI agree with coolant being in pcv system. You can have the turbo rebuilt, if the housing isn't damaged too badly. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk I am guessing I have to call around to see if the shops perform that service? Or is it another DYI project? Is there a way to check the pvc system for the possible leak?
TheUnsungWar
Another question regarding the Banjo Bolt. Does it have to be facing a specific way? Like the holes must be facing front of car/firewall, or just screw it in?
xt2005bonbon
Regarding rebuilding the turbo, we have a member on our forum who does a very good job at it. jmp something is his username . someone else will provide his actual username. And regarding the banjo bolt orientation, no it does not matter how it is facing.

TheUnsungWar
Any way to check the OVCs beside Btssm or a 9V(which just checks if it functions)?
xt2005bonbon
Have you ever swapped them?
TheUnsungWar
^ Yeah I swapped them. Then the turbo started squealing so I turned it off before i could get the code to check. Kind of afraid to turn it back on
aj_mariner
I wouldn’t turn it back on...get a new turbo from one of the tuning vendors here, or buy from online Subaru parts wholesaler. While your at it, dump your oil and refresh
xt2005bonbon
Drop the downpipe and check for shaft play.
aj_mariner
^^^This...as well as any indication of the turbine or compressor blades rubbing on the housing.
TheUnsungWar
So I managed to get the turbo off, get it inspected (came back good) reassemble and turn on the car with the btssm app. 2 things: it's showing negative boost pressure (3-5) and the vvt's are different 17-15 and 14-11. Never the same at one time.
xt2005bonbon
Are these VVT values at idle, under load? In any case, if there are not in sync, then probably time to replace them. Can't remember: did you replace/toss both banjo bolt filters?
TheUnsungWar
The one under the turbo had a filter, so I removed it. The ovcs didn't have one. Didn't check the one behind the Serpentine. And it was at idle. What about the negative air pressure? I remember it being about 18.
