rumbleintheboxer
Hey all I'm frustrated because someone I know has this same bar and swears it works. I cross checked the aftermarket parts thread, says 93-01 low profile strut bar fits, and it does. Payed $45 for the bar. But the strut tower seam welds get in the way. If I took the nuts off I'd bend the snot outta the bracket and it wouldn't be safe in the end. I checked the designs of others and it seems I'd have the same results. Anyone else experience this? https://imageshack.com/i/pnm5wRC1j https://imageshack.com/i/pnWOncRwj
doublechaz
I wondered about that as mine would have the same problem. I don't know about the fix. A tight fitting washer on top of each nut, then the bar, and then more nuts? I don't think that is what they intended, but it looks like that's what it would take. rumbleintheboxer
I'm glad to be a guinea pig for this forum. Sure I'm not the first lol. I had that thought but what worries me is the height of the strut bar, and only washers between and no nut below it. Maybe a thinner nut below, with washers stacked between the bar and the strut nuts above the bar. I'll try it if I snap something oh well. Thanks. -Kev
Brighton96
I'm not entirely sure why that did that or how to fix it but I just got a hold of a set of adjustable strut bars from a gc/first gen impreza, so I'll see how they fit and will let you know what works once I get around to installing them
Brighton96
Mine did it too! So the weather was nice enough to go install the front strut bar and surprise, the bead of seam sealer is causing it to not sit flat, so time to get some washer or a short sleeve of metal for the 2 inner studs, the outer stud sits flush so I'm not sure if that should have a spacer too. Its use spacers or trim back the seam sealer with an exacto knife. http://i1317.photobucket.com/albums/t637/96Brighton/DSC_0004%202_zpsj092pewp.jpg
rumbleintheboxer
Thank you! Man your strut towers are mint. I'm going to the hardware store later today I will put pics up as well.
rumbleintheboxer
I put two 8mm washers below, 1 above the bar bracket. The fender washer on top of that and a stainless 8x1.25 nut to lock it. Noticeable difference! Although, I am worried the washers may sink into the strut tower. May get fender washers tomorrow. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/150x100q90/922/CWTqG7.jpg
Brighton96
I don't think there's any issue with that set up, I was either going to try and get a hold of metal sleeves or washers to get mine level.
rumbleintheboxer
Sleeves would be sweet if I could find that perfect inner and outer diameter. If I find some I'll let you know!
