Brighton96
That yellow connector is for the power mirrors I believe, I also don't have a picture of my air bag plug so I'm of no help :/
SLW-SVT
Wow, don't mess up with that airbag. If it goes off in your face it can kill you. I have tried two configurations so far and I'm just getting air bag light. I'm starting the car from the side of the steering wheel just in case. That yellow connector is for the power mirrors I believe, I also don't have a picture of my air bag plug so I'm of no help :/ I figured it out. It was the fog light switch. it was just tucked down in the wrong spot. The part that is ripped out is usually taped up to help prevent what happened to me. I followed your advice and am soaking some parts. It's really working well! http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_0946.jpg
Brighton96
I'm glad to hear you're having success with that too, for lighter dried out stuff I usually only have to soak it once but for heavy stuff like the top of your dash and parts that get a lot of wear, it may take a few tries. This method works for basically all polymers and composite materials. I've even had decent success with it on leather.
SLW-SVT
Right on. Okay so is this all of the possible combinations? The list seems kind of short. I've tried every combination but the light is still on. I wonder if the airbag screws need to be screwed in for the light to go off if I found the right combination? Brighton96
Is the airbag connected for each of these tests? Or are you just testing the connector? The light will stay on if the airbag is not connected. I'm looking through my haynes manual, there isnt a wiring diagram for that and the pictures are black and white :/ but I'll keep looking. Also why not go look at one of the donor cars? It's only 2 screws to remove the airbag Edited February 5, 2017 by Brighton96
SLW-SVT
Good idea. I forgot the Legacy L is a 97 also. The limited is a 99 and has a different wiring setup.
Osei
If you go to the electrical wiring diagram section of the FSM, p83 (of 92) has the pinouts for the SRS system. O.

I found the diagram but it doesn't show what color the wires are. And i stripped one of the torx head screws in the legacy L so i cant get the airbag out to see:(
SLW-SVT
found out why i stripped it...using a T25 instead of the T27. Anyways, I checked the other car and the order is blue, brown, green but I'm still getting an airbag light and flashing CEL.
Osei
The colors are shown in the diagram. At the connectors. O.
SLW-SVT
Is this what you are looking at? http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/Screen%20Shot%202017-02-05%20at%206.48.01%20PM.png I've checked all the srs/airbag fuses and connections but I'm still getting the airbag and cel light. I know that I missed the ground for the radio so I'm about to pull the console and find it. Here are my pics from yesterday: Big color difference http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_0951.jpg I took pictures for reference to help me putting my harness in the new dash http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_0949.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_0947.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_0953.jpg Yeah! no more ashy white dash. Now my center radio trim, ac vents, glove box and lower driver side dash are still gray and look out of place. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_0954.jpg
doublechaz
Would you say that all the cars have the same harness under the dash for a given year? What I'm getting at is: do I have the connector for the fog light switch if my car didn't ship with fogs? I didn't find it, but I didn't dig very deep. It could be tucked down somewhere strange. My car is a Brighton so I don't have any options, but I have plugs for fog lights, power mirrors and cruise control. All of which my car isn't equipped for. But I don't have the front end wiring harness for those options.
doublechaz
Thanks. I haven't been under the front end to look for the connectors at the lights. I'm just in the info gathering stage. If I add lights I'd like to stick with factory wiring, but I don't have to.

If I add lights I'd like to stick with factory wiring, but I don't have to. When I did my fog lights I tapped into the low beams lights so they automatically come on when the low beams are on and go off when high beams are turned now. By the laws here in the commonwealth states, the fog lights cannot be on when the high beams are on. I also did it this way because I didn't feel like running a switch into the cabin and adding another wire to my battery.
doublechaz
That's the on/off pattern I'd be looking for, but I was going to use the factory switch to have them off completely if I wanted. I like your idea. Breaks the factory wiring part, but it doesn't involve a bunch of non-standard stuff running all the way from the support through the firewall and all over under the dash. Nice idea.
Brighton96
I'm honestly just lazy, when I was younger I had wires running everywhere for all sorts of dumb crap. I'm past that phase now haha, now it's just wire it up as simply as possible so they are functional. I just used those ghetto wire taps that you crimp over the wires you want to get power from and then you put a spade connector on the wires running to the fog light. SLW-SVT
I haven't done anything the last couple of days but I did order male 9007 male plugs for the JDM projectors to wire up to the stock harness. I also ordered a gallon of 303 protectant because it works really well! I plan on soaking all of my interior trim in it. Next big step to restoration will take place after I get my bonus check in march. I will be replacing the front windshield, fixing the rust at the top of the windshield, repainting the roof, painting the hood vent and mirrors white and taking the rear hatch off the Limited and painting it white. I will be deleting the badges in the rear and filling in the holes for the Legacy logo. Hopefully one day I can properly rate an STI emblem in its place:)
Setnev
I still have the clockspring assembly from my old 99 Legacy in the garage. I can take a picture of the connector if you need it. I presume they're the same connector and wire colors.

SLW-SVT
Nice project. Thanks! Here's the wiring for the clockspring. http://i.imgur.com/XNVXsXh.jpg Thanks but I figured it out, plus i ripped the wires out from the part under the tape. I started working on wiring up my JDM headlights today but it turns out the 9007 male plugs I received are not what I need for this car. It has a different connector. I may just solder bullet connectors to the headlights and engine bay harness. I did polish up the passenger side light. It only had a little haziness on the top but there were some scuffs from shipping that aren't seen very well in the pic. BTW my poor bumper makes me sad. They are still available to order from Subaru according to a dealership I called but that is a long way off. Brighton96
Do you want me to take pictures of how mine are wired up? It's only 3 wires so it's pretty easy to wire up yourself.

Thanks but I figured it out: found out why i stripped it...using a T25 instead of the T27. Anyways, I checked the other car and the order is blue, brown, green but I'm still getting an airbag light and flashing CEL. I got the rear cargo net installed from the Limited. It was kind of a pain and I still need to move the driver side lower up a little bit so the left section of the floor can move over all the way. My spare tire lid won't close properly the way it is now. The bottom hooks have these spacers and the left one is too low. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_1050.jpg I had to drill holes like the limited for the upper hooks. I wish the Limited's rear pillar trim were in better shape. I really want the rear tweeters. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_1049.jpg I'm excited that I don't have to use bungee cords to secure my tool box for work. You can see that the spare tire lid doesn't close correctly. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_1053.jpg And I let my driver front door panel soak in 303 protectant for a few hours but it still doesn't match the darker dash from the limited. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_1047.jpg Lighted lower section added but not wired yet. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/Subaru%20Outback/IMG_1052.jpg
Brighton96
I noticed there was two colors of black interiors, a few of my panels are a lighter black than the others, it's kind of annoying
