S.C. Journey With My RBP LGT Wagon

SC07

Recommended Posts

I've always wanted a Wagon. I've always wanted a Subaru. So it was needless to say where I would eventually end up. Tested the Levorg a couple of times and the 1.6 just didnt cut it. The 2.0 is not available where I am at so... I guess its back in seek of my old love. Eventually, but somehow surely, I bought a LGT Wagon.

This is when she was still at the used car dealership.

SO... I told everyone I would leave it stock, I enjoyed it the way it is stock. Well I did, I still do, but we all know we're kidding ourselves. I've never left any of my cars stock. Perhaps when I can afford a McLaren one day I will leave it stock. Until then...

So exhaust has got to be one of the first things. And since where I come from, only the Kakimotor Regu and Trust is legal. I went with Trust instead. Those big tail pipes are quite a sight from the back.

A fellow Legacy owner wanted to scrap his car, and offered to trade with top up for his Spec B Grille and Bumper. The deal was just too good to resist, so spray shop here we come! and in 2 days after a business trip. She is transformed! Took the chance to refresh the badge to a new one as well. The Subaru badge imho, is one of the nicest in the industry. It has lots of emotions in it. Always magical at times.

Ok so we got the front tackled now. How about the wheels? How about suspension? How about brakes? With so many Legacys being scrapped these days. 2nd hand parts are just plenty to find. Patience being the key, and found these great stuff all at a good price. All they needed was a good cleaning. And tadah! We are good to go.

Current generation STI 4/2 BBKs. Had the front resprayed to match the rear in silver. Absolutely love them.

The Enkei STI wheels were a rare find as well. They were in overall great condition, minus some stone chips and mounting marks, couldn't ask for more. Someone also told me these were rare as most of them came in 18x7.5. These howeve were 18x8. So, had them resprayed in original color and in they go. Found a 2,000km used set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres in 235/40/18 as well which mounted great on the wheels.

Next, found a used set of Ohlins DFV. Owner showed proof he had them since early 2014, and used them till early 2016. Did about 30,000km on them, car was never in an accident, and claimed no leaks of noises. So ok, lets try our luck on them. They looked great with no visible damage or leaks, just need some elbow grease cleaning. :)

Last pictures are of the car yesterday when I had most of the stuff fitted. Am still waiting for new rotos to come so the brakes got to be in the box for awhile more :( Also put in a K&N open pod system but was actually rather disappointed with the sound. Not much of a roar but oh well, it does add more music to the drive. lol

Am waiting on new rotors, brakes to go on, a new turbo, possibly a new or used TMIC, and then a final tune. Thinking of adding a roof race, maybe the STI Front lip, and some side spats if I can find them locally. Thanks for reading so far. And please share any comments if I can make this build a better one. Drive hard, but drive safe guys. S.C.

 Its beautiful! Great find on those wheels too! Following for more updates and jealousy. Thought about possibly getting a Liberal rear wing? I think that and a lip and you would be set exterior wise!

Hows the fitment of those rear calipers? Always heard putting the old style on cars that need those ones results in poor pad contact.

Looking awesome though. Except that front number plate, damn that thing is huge...

Have not fitted the rear calipers as i was waiting for new set of rotors to arrive. Slight dilemma now tho. What would you guys go for?

I wanted the STI 4/2 calipers to keep in line with my STI Theme. However a used set of AP Racing 6/4 Silver colored calipers are up for sale at a very attractive price. What would you guys go for? Stick to the STI theme? or go with performance with the AP?

The number plates where I come from are all huge. Its a government requirement and modifying the plate or font size usually ends up with a fine or trip back to the inspection centre, where they up scrutinizing the entire car. So better to be a good boy with the plates. :)

Decided to do an upgrade for sway bars. Been searching high and low in Singapore for Legacy ones but they are extremely hard to find. The used cusco ones are also rare to come by, sadly. Popped into a buddy's shop, and he said deep in their store room, they found a set of BP5, Tanabe Sway bars. We measured and they came up to Ft 22mm / Rr 22mm. Decided to just go with the back for now, and see if I liked the feel with Ohlines already installed.

Now comes the brakes, have had the 4/2 STI brakes for awhile now. Finally got them installed and loving the entire look now. Minus the STI Front lip, and I am all done with external mods.

How do you like the ride of the Ohlin's? Jealous of the amazing parts that seem to pop-up regularly in your area :D

The Ohlins is pretty sublime if you ask me. I sell cars for a living so I pretty much have driven all types of suspension. I've told many people, how wrong can ohlins be, or rather, how good they must be, that Pagani, koenigsegg, Lamborghini are using them on their cars.

The ride is firm but not intrusive. It doesn't get into your bones and when set right, the rebound is spot on. You go over even roads and the car flows with the terrain. Where there are speed strips or bumps, the car not upset but rather, still firm enough to give you the necessary feedback.

This will NOT be a track suspension tho. Having track alot on my s2k and cars at work, I feel the ohlins dfv will not appeal to trackies. They are on the soft side, and you will feel the body roll of the car in a corner. Compared to suspensions like the HKS Hipermax Sport, the car feels really square around bends. Personally it suits me tho. I am trained to adjust to the weight shift of car, so absolute rock hard setups are not my kinda thing. The ohlins in summary is a street, aggressive street, B roads, light track coilovers.

Our cars here are extremely expensive. A brand new legacy now current generation is about USD84,000. You did not read this wrongly, that is USD84Gs. Thus modding cars and paying alot for parts in Singapore is pretty normal, which in return sees many useds parts for sale after time. Everything here has to be imported tho, you guys actually get more parts readily available but due to the size of your country, they are harder to come by. :)
