WilliHaM
Hope this is the right place to post this. I am looking at buying an 05 LGT limited from my dads friend. He is selling because he has money for a truck and doesnt want to drop money on a car he doesnt need or want to drive. The car needs a lot with the axles but thats not what im worried about. He told me that the clutch failed, will need a clutch very soon. Also was told that the turbo was replaced because it blew or something along those lines. That was less than 1000 miles ago. IF the turbo failed and parts flew into the engine, is there anything I could possibly look for before I buy to show some signs of engine failure? If I buy it, what would I need to do as far as checking if it has damage and what would it cost to look (or fix if necessary.) Thanks for all the help though guys, havent even bought the car yet and this is the best community ive seen by far.
Rhitter
Blackstone oil analysis will help determine if there are metal particles in the engine. My OBXT build
Max Capacity
That blackstone sample could save you thousands for the $25 investment. Contact them for a free sample kit. If you can do some of the rebuild work yourself plan on about $5-6000 with a clutch kit. Most just get a new OEM EJ257 shortblock and gasket kit for your year car. Find a good machine shop, that is a big help in rebuilding the heads. If there was metal in the oil, the new turbo could also be on it's way out. There is a sticky up top of this forum of the one just above that will help you plan. http://legacygt.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/engine-rebuild-threads-engines-only-142.html 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here

If you are getting this car for free, and you're ready/willing/able to do the work required, then it might be worth the trouble. Keep in mind you'll likely have a $5k car when everything is running perfectly. It may cost more than that to get it there... See if the owner is willing to let you take an oil sample before buying the car, that would be a great way to determine what's up. However, if the car is off the road, and already has fresh oil in it (likely), it may be tough to glean much information... LW's spec.
