0-60 just 4 fun

Recommended Posts

Just having a little legacy fun tonight. In all honesty i think i've got the hang of the legacy clutch and shift. while the accuracy of the passport g-timer (http://www.escortstore.com/gtimer.htm) is questionable, it does give you a better idea if the mods have improved your car performance and it can help you gauge your clutch technique relative to your car and driving.

anyway, i made 3 runs from 0-60 (not enough open road for 1/4) and posted a 6.01, 5.62, and 5.07 (all from the same road). Temp outside was about 72F with not much humidity.

let me tell you that the 5.07 launch was at about 5500 RPM and I actually felt more G's than any of my past launches. My best time (same back road) before was 5.57 seconds. I was so happy, I took a pic ( http://legacygt.com/forums/vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=676) after my run.

the only thing modded are my momo drilled pedals. everything else is 5mt stock.:p i was amused.

OK, based on this, how far out do u think the g-timer is out if any ? a few tenths or more ? When does the timer start, from the time the clutch enguages or when the wheels start to move forward ? or do u hit a button ?

And 0 - 60 M/PH = 0 - 96.5 K/ph which U said was in 5.07

Therefore, every mile = 0.0845 seconds

So 0.0845 x 62 = 5.239, meaning for our Aussie and UK/JPN friends 0 - 100 = 5.239..... not bad.

Curious, what is the FASTEST "STOCK" 0 - 60 time ? and I do mean STOCK and in safe conditions ONLY.

If you are able to use a Gtech Pro SS they are very accurate. Several auto magazines are using that model for testing.

+1 I used one on my old car. Relatively cheap, $250 for the SS and another $50 for the USB cable and software. They claim accuracy of 1/1000th of a second. It all depends on how you set it up. It has shift lights, 0-60, 1/4 mile, RPM's, G's, ect... I give it a B+

Mine just got delivered Thursday and I've only done 2 runs so far. 77 and quite humid up here yesterday. Doing 3-4k launches with just a little slip (no 5-6k drops for me) run 1 was 5.09 and run 2 was 4.94. Can't wait for good conditions.

did you get the logging equipment to? if so can you bring it to the meet on the 21st.? Im curious to see your power curve.

The timer starts when the unit senses movement. The only thing it measures is acceleration, then calculates everything back from there. I think the newer ones can also sense the rpm from the power cable, giving shift lights at whatever you set them to.

I so much want one of these, but would rather spend the money on actually going faster than measuring it !

I had a gtech pro but not the SS version it was a neat tool however you have to have your weight accurate.

I ended up selling it to Franz at KTR tuning and I asked him if he thought they were accurate and he said its within a FEW hp OF HIS DYNO PULLS, I thought that was amazing.

No logging equpt as I got the SS, not RR, but it does store something like your last 40 runs including your best 10. I'm still learning how to use it and my friend w/ the 2.5RS coupe has it right now. We tried to have an install session at his place yesterday (he owned a garage 15 years ago so knows his stuff)...springs, brake lines and pads...only the pads went in (Carbotechs and they are nice). Didn't have a 10mm flare nut wrench for the lines and couldn't break them loose without rounding them off - torqued WAY too tight. Then it was the rear lower strut bolts which were supposed to be torqued to 118lb. BS! 120lb impact wrench - nothing, 24" breaker bar - nothing, finally put on my torque wrench and cranked it up to 150lbs (just to see how tight they were) - click - nothing. Tried both sides, same thing. Those bolts are torqued well in excess of 150lbs. We quit before we broke something. Will spray them the day before we try it next time. Why the hell do you have torque specs and not torque to those specs SOA???

Oh yeah, sorry I got off on my rant. I'll bring it on the 21st. I want to weigh my car on their scales for an accurate weight for the SS. I also want to do runs w/ it to test accuracy.

That's impressive but your clutch isn't going to take too many launches like that.
