Removing engine to upgrade parts.

Recommended Posts

I'm doing a whole bunch of bolt-ons and part replacements on my XT over the next two weekends which would require me to get about 85% of the way to removing the engine. I figured that since I'll have access to an air compressor, engine hoist and engine stand where I'm working on it, I might as well finish up the process and remove the engine to install some replacement parts before I get the car towed to the tuning shop.

That said, what should I do that's easier with the engine out of the car than in it?

So far I'm doing the following:

Upgrade turbo (Blouch TD05-16GXT)

Replace a few cracked coolant hoses

Finish installation of Infamous Performance turbo oil line

Replace exhaust headers (Tomei Expreme UEL)

Install catless up-pipe (Tomei)

Upgrade Clutch and flywheel (Exedy Stage 1 + lightweight SMFW)

Upgrade engine mounts (STI GRP-N)

Replace front O2 sensor

Install Wideband sensor

I was going to do this with the engine out as well:

Clean engine bay

Remove Banjo bolt filter under the timing cover

Replace timing belt

Replace Accessory belt

Leakdown/compression test

Replace thermostat

Compression and leak down should be done in the car.

The rest of the stuff. you might as well pull the engine.

Also replace the oil return hose at the turbo, may be the heater hoses too. See my click here link for pictures and ideas.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
