AVO turbo kit install for 2009 2.5i

That bung may be too low :eek:or you overfilled the sump. It doesnt flow a ton of oil so drainage shouldnt be an issues once the pump is running and pulling oil into the engine when stopped it could back up into the line and maybe the journals.

That bung is in an annoying spot. I may tap my original pan and swap the pans again. It's almost impossible to run the line with the exhaust manifold right there. I dunno how the previous owner ran it like that. So I've been stuck on that, plus work.

Well, I see how the past owner ran his lines. The used return line had a crunched and slightly braised section in it. It was where he ran it right past the motor mount and the exhaust manifold. I did the same thing. Dropped the up-pipe and exhaust manifold again, ran the oil line, then put everything back. I reused the same header wrap thing that AVO gives, but I'm using a brand new stainless steel braided line so I won't have to worry about it being right next to the exhaust.

Bolted everything together, but the two 13mm bolts in the back of the up-pipe are a bear. My hand/wrench is too big to get in there to tighten it.

Took off the alternator to get to the oil pressure sensor, it sits right next to the EJ25 stamping (GEE-OTTO, this is what you were asking for earlier).

Just a couple things left and I can fire it up soon I hope. Need to put the intercooler on, run the turbo oil and coolant lines, then the other misc stuff I took off for everything. Almost there!

Well, I hooked up the oil supply line, as well as the coolant lines, and then cranked the car over a couple times with a video camera to watch the turbo. First 3 cranks, it's perfect and the turbo spins. Last crank, oil seeps out of the supply line. Looks like there's a kink in it and it failed. Will take the line off and get another one made at the local hose supply store. Anyway, here are pictures of the oil and coolant line routing.

Had a new oil supply line made and installed it today. Also took off the bumper beam and sat the intercooler behind. Just need to figure out the piping now.

You finally went through with it haha. Good luck! I'm hoping to tidy up some things on my car this winter. I'm in the middle of swapping my outback right now so I don't know if I'll have the energy until next Spring. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll try and check in here once in a while!

Idk if you did already but you might want to pull your ROM and get it defined at Romraider. They're pretty quick it seems these days.

Any teflon tape or high temp thread sealant on those lines? Just wondering I have a spotty past lol.

Those are -AN fittings and should NOT need teflon tape.

I did use Teflon tape anyway. The new line I had made is Teflon lined too.

Yea man! Just trying to figure out intercooler piping. Sent my rom to AVO already, it's been defined already on RR.

You really should not use Teflon tape on -an fittings. I would remove the Teflon tape and as is only going to hinder the sealing ability of the fitting. The Teflon may not allow for the fitting to fully seat (and seal) especially if you used a lot of it. Likely be fitting that those fitting connect to have a -AN to NPT adapter. Here is an example http://www.jegs.com/i/Aeroquip/023/FCM2008/10002/-1 The NPT thread on the right needs Teflon tape to seal. The -an thread on the left does not.

At my last job we had pressure test tools, 99% of the time of the system was bleeding air pressure down, it was because someone used Teflon tape on the -AN fitting. The manufacturing assemblers used Teflon tape on the NPT fittings, so they made the assumption that the -AN fittings. Despite multiple training from the manufacturer manager and myself they continued to do it. I suspect they never understood the difference between the fittings. They used NPT threads on a daily basis while -AN thread fittings were used maybe once a month. Many of the engineers made the same mistake.

Surprisingly, things may be turning a different way. May be selling the Legacy to a friend and trading in the CVT WRX for a 6 speed to downsize my two cars to one so I can get a bigger car for our family later. Wifey's idea, love her. I'll be removing the turbo kit and putting it back for sale I suppose.

Yup, done deal. Picked up my 2016 WRX in Lapis Blue. Turbo being taken out of the Legacy and going back for sale. May try selling the Legacy here or on CL.

In addition to the kit I got second hand, I will be adding the MAF adapter I bought, as well as an oil pressure and temp gauge. Also had the injectors cleaned at WitchHunter so I'll factor that in as well, but it will probably stay close to the original price I bought it from despite the additions.

That is a great replacement/upgrade vehicle I too like the 15+ WRX, enjoy. Also you should be able to sell your 2.5i on here but a lot of times folks are looking for LGTs same on NASIOC except they will try to trade you a grenade WRX for for 2.5i b/c "they want better MPG"

Haha well I drove the 15 WRX CVT for 40k miles in one year so I got raped on the trade a bit. Not as bad as expected though. Bought the cvt under invoice last year and go 22k on the trade. Got the new wrx for well under invoice though. We just thought about it and it seemed better to take the hit now rather than trade the auto wrx for a new van later and then buy myself another toy car since the legacy would still suck compared to a new wrx.

Now I have to decide whether to put the legacy completely to stock and sell the racecomp tarmac on the side and what not.

Turbo and everything came off today, swapped the oil pan again, should be up and running in a couple days when I get some time off. Then I suppose it's picture time.

Sorry to disappoint those following the thread haha.
