MBrennan
I am having a new short block installed and I was wondering if I should be running anything special for oil for the first 1-3000 mile while breaking it in? Everything is stock
Max Capacity
I used Castrol GTX 5-30 for my break in. Some guy's like to use special oil. IMO any good oil is fine, just change it often with the filter. Change it after the 20 warm up, then at 500 miles, then after another 1000 miles, then after another 1500 miles. I went to synthetic after that. I also had my Tuner do a street tune at 500 miles just to make sure everything was fine. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
FJuan
On a new Short block, you can start running your choice of recommend oils. The GT's like Rotella T6, it's also cheaper then the rest. On a rebuilt short block is different with oil change intervals. My wife's balls are delicious.
Underdog
I use Joe Gibbs BR30 and OEM filters. Change both after 20 min warm-up, sticking with BR30. Change again after 50-100 miles of driving but switch to conventional oil (Castrol GTX 5w30 is good). Most customers switch to Rotella T6 the next oil change, or the one following. gto7419
Ive read a lot of articles that specify conventional oil for break-in.
rmoore5
I used conventional oil for the 1st two changes on the last 3 new engines I have broken in. I sold the 2000 pickup with 192K and the 05GT is still going at 266K, it's too early to tell for the new engine in the 09 OBXT.
