Today I drained the oil out so I could flip the motor over. Once that was done I removed the exhaust manifold and turbo. Along with the twelve million vacuum coolant and oil lines associated with the turbo.

So I finally got back to pulling the motor apart after a couple of crazy busy weeks. This evening I pulled the intake manifold. It was not too bad. Of course there was one bolt that was a pain to get out because something else was in the way. I also made the stupid mistake of pulling the injectors off one side before I realized that they could come off with the intake. So then I had to put that rail back in. Stupid Brendan. Anyway. I should have it all apart in a few days and have the heads to the machine shop. Then the real fun begins.

Today I finally removed the heads. You could definitely see where the passenger side gasket was leaking right into the coolant passage. Heads were very easy to remove except loosening the head bolts was a nightmare. The piston bores look great. Still have a ton of swirl marks, so looks like the bottom end is hopefully good. So Monday the heads will be going to the machine shop. Here are a few pics.

Picked the heads up from the machine shop today. Hope to get them installed and the timing belt on this weekend. Of course after I install the tbelt I am going to spin that motor over by hand about 2000 times just to make sure it is all well. Would hat eto have it off and screw up these pretty heads.

Well had a busy day today and got a lot done. I was able to get the heads installed and the timing belt on. Did have a few hiccups though. I started early. Put the first head on. Tightened the nuts down to hand tight, then I realized I had the stupid head on backwards. Nope won't work that way. Guess its time for another cup of coffee. So then after that was sorted, I got the right head on the right way, the first washer I go to put on a stud and I drop it right in one of the oil galleys. Crap, so then I had to pull the oil pan to get the washer back. Fortunately that is super easy and only took a few minutes. Anyway, after a rough start all went very well.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention this. As I am lining up the tbelt, I hear something behind me. I turn around and there is a 4' gopher snake slithering by. Scared the crap out of me until I realized it was just a gopher snake. Of course then the bugger disappeared behind a cabinet and I have not seen him since.

Spent about an hour and a half getting the intake back on today. Now I remember why I took all the photos during disassembly. There were a couple times I could not figure out where and how things were plugged in. Pics saved the day though. All that is left is the exhaust manifold and it is ready to go back in the car.

Got most everything installed today minus the upper coolant hose. Forgot to buy hose clamps for that one. Turned the key while crossing my fingers and it started right up. Sounded great. The only dilemma was that a huge cloud of smoke poofed out right as I started it from all the oil floating around from assembly etc. So I had to open all the windows in the garage to air it out. Other than that all went well. tomorrow I will get the hose on and run it up to temp and finalize everything. Hope all goes well.

Thank you all for your support through the engine build. You all have been a lot of help.
