dvinke1 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 So I was thinking about dropping the money on some Okada's, but my tuner says he swears they are just re-badged OEM coils that do nothing for you. I was going to just get OEM from the dealership, but not a single local dealership has them in stock here in SLC. How about Napa brand?
MrTris Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 -----> Only buy from here: http://parts.bestbuysubaru.com/ Remember, NAPA doesn't actually make or distribute many parts for our cars, especially non-mechanical ones. Brakes, rotors, etc can be had, certainly. But newer things, like coils and such, they'll buy from somewhere else, mark it up and sell it to you. Why not cut out the middleman?
dvinke1 Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 And because that website EFFING sucks for searching for parts categories. Works fine if you know your part numbers already, but otherwise don't bother, jeez
Max Capacity Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 PM "underdog" and ask him to send you what he'd use. It is that easy. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
BrianEarlSpilner Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Because I hate shipping... "This will decimate all once you put 15 grand into it, or more...and if we have to, overnite parts from Japan." Yeah shipping sucks. I tend to want to do things on a whim and would prefer to just run down to the parts store and go. Then I remember these are Japanese products, so the parts you actually NEED are never close by. I'm still learning to plan ahead better. Tris is right, there are certain parts you just don't want to skimp on.
MrTris Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Well, this is one of those things you can't really skimp on, per se, either. Even if you order it from NAPA, it'll be the same thing you would have to otherwise buy at the dealership, and then pay their markup, too.
dvinke1 Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Well, this is one of those things you can't really skimp on, per se, either. Even if you order it from NAPA, it'll be the same thing you would have to otherwise buy at the dealership, and then pay their markup, too. Wait, so your saying the dealership does not even have OEM Japanese coils??
MrTris Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I can see how that might have been confusing -- Of COURSE the dealership will have them! But, from someplace like NAPA, they'll "Special Order" it, and then of course, have to tack on markup. For instance, when I was shopping for my rebuild parts, I priced out a gasket kit at NAPA. Guess what they quoted me? $460-something. Why? Because their "warehouse" would order it from whatever dealership was local, have it shipped there, mark it up, and then sell it to me. The point is, unless there's a decent aftermarket alternative, for something like gaskets, or, small parts, NAPA doesn't/won't carry it.
Gex Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I have 2 from Beck Arnley got them on Rock Auto. $30 cheaper a piece then oem. No issues.
dvinke1 Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Ya I would prefer to stay OEM on them I think, stealership is not bad actually ~$50 a piece, I was expecting around $100ea or more. Thanks for the opinions/advice
