1-3-2-4
The one behind the head maybe I'm wrong but some said it's on super tight? While I don't have any filters in the AVCS OCV's I don't know about the one behind the head. What is it 10 mm?
Max Capacity
I believe the banjo bolt on the back of the head is a 10mm banjo. Ask someone like "underdog" he might know for sure. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. AMileHighLGT
The banjo bolt on the backside of the cylinder head is a 17mm, same size as the ocv banjo bolt. The banjo bolt on the turbo is a 10mm.
doobaruGT
I thought it was 14mm. I bought a ratcheting wrench for this, or so I thought. 10mm is pretty small for a banjo, no? Max Capacity
I'm talking thread size, not wrench size. I seem to recall the turbo banjo is a 14mm hex ? 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. AMileHighLGT
I'm talking thread size, not wrench size. I seem to recall the turbo banjo is a 14mm hex ? Doh. You're correct. 14 for turbo I thought it was 14mm. I bought a ratcheting wrench for this, or so I thought. 10mm is pretty small for a banjo, no? doobaruGT
I'm talking thread size, not wrench size. I seem to recall the turbo banjo is a 14mm hex ? That would make a lot more sense. CloudSeed777
They're all the same (14mm) with the exception of the oil-feed banjo on the turbo (10mm) as you can see here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/2005-outback-xt-rebuild-chronicles-233261p7.html?highlight=chronicles
1-3-2-4
So will I have to cuss at it to loosen it?
Max Capacity
Yea, I may have to agree the banjos on the heads may be 12mm, I have been thinking that. That would explain the 17mm hex head on them. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. AMileHighLGT
Pretty sure I had an oldman brainfart. Not sure if the op wants the thread size. Probably looking for head size
CloudSeed777
So will I have to cuss at it to loosen it? I don't recall mine being particularly bad. Just make sure you're square on the bolt head and you shouldn't have too much a problem. I used a cheater bar several times on my build, but can't remember if I needed it on the banjos. I just checked on the car - heads on larger banjos are indeed 17mm socket, not 14mm.
1-3-2-4
The bolt on the head was easy as pie to get out.. and indeed the one behind the head had a filter in it! I took a picture of it (on my phone) from what I understand it's the inside of the filter that's where it can build up? I left the filter out. doobaruGT
My only thing was forgetting to take it out the first time I changed the turbo. Meh, I left mine in after I upgraded. My banjo was clean as could be. I could be playing with fire but my OCV logs are good and I tend to my OCI's like a Roman to confession. Seems to be a crap-shoot but I'm willing to bet maintenance plays a critical role. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Updated parts list since original part-out here. SleeperScoob
Doesn't look too clean to me, good thing you pulled it out. Though, there is still a lot of oil on it in the pic. Mine were clean as a whistle, but they still came out. I could see almost no buildup after drying them off.
