Tripod
Was reading the NASIOC forum and found a thread that pretty much indicated the 2006 WRX STI is significantly faster than the 04/05 STI. I know the power rating is supposedly the same, but there was some changes to the DCCD and suspension and other things I read about, but does anybody know if Subaru in fact did give the 2006 STI more power but kept the rating the same?? It might be just a more efficient drivetrain now, better aerodynamics, and possibly some gearing tweaks, but this guy was saying that he's raced several stock 04/05 STI's in his heavily modded regular WRX and would beat them all by about 1-1.5 car lengths. He raced a "bone stock" 2006 STI and said he "got r@ped" by it. Another guy was there and confirmed it. Interesting?

Aczwild
I believe that the '06 has 320 hp and the suspension and aerodynamics of the car have been significantly improved. Even with the relatively small hp bump its amazing what kinds of improvements can be made when the suspension and drivetrain of a vehicle can accurately and efficiently put that power to the ground. I believe it. JDM'd All to hell Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com! RIP Coxx & Thanks
Tripod
What's also odd is that Subaru lists the weight of the 2006 model as 3351 pounds....or 53 pounds MORE than the 2005 model...which in turn weighed ever so slightly more than the 2004 model. The 2006 is also 2 inches longer (new front end). I read that for 2006 they switched the differential from a HYDRAULICALLY operated unit to a MECHANICALLY operated unit. This may be part of the reason the 2006 may in fact run faster. This new mechanically operated differential is possibly MUCH more efficient and also more power to get to the wheels. I don't know what the improved aerodynamics is...would love to see what the coefficient of drag rating is on the 2006 (I think it was like .33 for the 04/05 model), but it could also be that "air diffuser" thing on the top of the rear window. I wouldn't doubt it if Subaru did do some ECU tweaking as well, which probably resulted in some hp/tq increases, but they figured they'd wait until 2007 (when the new 2008 STI debuts) to release the new power ratings on that car. My guess is there won't be significant power changes just a new "rating" of like 310 or 320 hp (what the 2006 might very well be putting out too). It'll come down to seeing some dyno tests. Also from tuners like Cobb. If the AccessPort for the 04/05 STI won't work on the 2006, then that alone tells us the ECU for the 2006 has been changed. But even if it does work, we'd have to see boost levels and power mapping side by side with an 05 to see if Subaru tweaked the outputs. Ain't this fun? Guest *Jedimaster*
It weighs more because of the extra wing and the gigantic nostrils.
RobY
I think the DCCD has always been an electromechanical cam locking dif.
eles1
I think the extra wing makes it faster. Everyone knows more wings = faster.
Tripod
I think the DCCD has always been an electromechanical cam locking dif. Not according to a report I read. Who knows, we'll have to wait and see some numbers as they come in.
