Well, I think I broke the record for longest-ever install today, no thanks to a stripped screw on one of the metal radio mount-brackets. Holy Sh*t, those screws are buttery-soft.

This particular screw had a grounding bracket on it from the dealership-installed subwoofer and the installation guy must have wrenched it down TIGHT. I tried everything and finallly went to the local hardware store and picked up a screw extractor drill bit...did the job.

My setup: I ran my stereo to rca patch cable from the jazzy around the shifter, under the cup holder, through a coupler and into an rca to stereo patch cable which I brought up through a hole drilled adjacent to the cig lighter in the storage cubby. I'm using the Belkin car kit and noticed with the Sh*t-Shack brand GLI I had issues with sound cutting in-and-out so I ditched the GLI and problem solved. No noticable issues with background noise (very slight but not noticable).

Subaru can learn a lot from "pioneers" like Jazzy. Great job!!

Tomorrow I leave for another 3 day, 1,200 mile sales run through the Carolinas (that'd be noth cacalaki, and seth cacalaki). I now have enough dedicated music to handle the entire trip with my new Sana e280 - thanks to the Jazz!

Works awesome, and install took 1.75 hours for a newb. Only issue, I dropped a frik'n screw driver on the area next to the shifter and left an ugly 3/4" scratch. I'm a dumb arse! That was the only cussing, except of course, when I tested the MP3 player, and it cranked out some Big Wreck and I belted out a happy "ef' yeah!" :icon_mrgr

Thanks for the fine engineering Jazz & Co.

whats up with the bosco part in your member name? bosco

I noticed that too, a few weeks ago. Funny coinsidence. The historical influences of Seinfeld are the ultimate source for the tag, which also eventually became the name of my Maine Coon cat.

Jazzy -

Is the sound quality in this board that much better than just utilizing the FM Modulator with most XM RADIOS?

I am looking to get a custom install done of the Roady XT in my cubby, but do not want the lousy sound quality of the wireless FM Modulator. Is this the item I am looking for to complete this stealthy and worthy install??

THanks

The FM modulator on my Roady2 is what drove me to start this whole project, so yea - it makes a huge difference.

I will admitt that I have been doing some skipping around on this thread, however it is a tid-bit long... anyways, whats the latest on the "New Gen" board that works without a silent CD? any new developments....

I am really close to getting my Roady XT and want to make sure it gets done right...meaning I def. want that aux. input. when the shop installs it. So, if it means another month until the new gen, I will wait......but if you're unsure, I will probably go ahead and buy your current version.

No - no new developments. At this point, I'm doubtful it will ever happen. There doesn't seem to be anyone that has done any research on the CD changer protocol & I've had almost no luck deciphering it. If I do ever figure it out, it will probably be just for my own enjoyment & interest will have long since expired. Unfortunately, it's just one of those things where I probably bit off more than I can chew. I'm not giving up yet, but I don't want to give anyone false hope either.

You still are selling your aux. in. boards, correct?

Joe

Yep. Slowly but surely. I'll be ordering another batch of PCB's today or tomorrow actually - so I'll have components to sell for a good while yet.

Any further progress decoding the serial protocol used by the CD changer? I have a 2006 Outback Sedan with navi, and would really, really like a scheme to get high quality audio into the system without continually playing a CD.

Does it use the same protocol as the Panasonic units found here: http://www.lafrog.com/cdcemu/

Does anyone know, offhand, if the US 2006 Outback + NAVI radio has the DIN-8 on the back?

Unfortunately, no - it does not. If you browse through the little bit of data acquisition I did, you'll see it's completely different.

Jazzy,

Anybody ever report problems with 1-channel on these boards? Every so often I have a song that will completely drop part off due to a single channel feed. It works off the Ipod everywhere else, and I have checked the RCAs 3 times to make sure they are both attached. Thoughts?

Yes, It happened to me for a few weeks this summer - one speaker would sorta cut out intermittently. I suspect it's the 3.5mm stereo jack in the aux board getting jogged loose from vibrations (since I am not using a GLI, there are no intermediate connections to suspect). It must have just jogged itself back into place though because I haven't had it happen again for the last 6 months.

I would try reseating the aux-in jack if it persists - i know it's really annoying. If that doesn't work, or it gets worse I can send you a replacement board.
