nealkubitz
Personally I can't say the pattern does anything for me, but that's quite possibly the most impressive DIY and unique branding mod I've seen on this forum! Yeah not sure I love it yet either, but it's better than tan. And thank you it is quite the compliment I took as many pictures as I could and tried being as descriptive as possible, means a lot thanks :-)

chimera
Just showed the wife, she quite liked it - and the pattern is growing on me :-) I noticed you had beer in the list... problem is, that would triple the cost for me if I did something similar! Top job all the same.

nealkubitz
Got the visors installed last night, came out great not much of that scratchy paint feeling I was expecting, the fabric soaked in most of it. Vanity mirrors had to be Epoxied in cause of my failure but they are in and are strong; and it all still works woo hoo. http://i.imgur.com/vWZizEN.jpg The spot right above that the little bubble is where not enough glue got on the fabric, make sure you get a good even coat on the OEM fabric. vagabond
I did this a few years ago in my Volvo wagon. More recently in my Impreza. Not a project you can rush. I like krylon fusion satin black and a matte clear to prevent paint scratch and flake.
nealkubitz
UPDATE: Decided to work on my beat up armrest this weekend, it was beat up and had holes in it. Took off the old leather stuff, and then used a wire wheel and brush to get off all the foam. http://i.imgur.com/o7AqRzS.jpg http://i.imgur.com/HtikHRG.jpg Had a thick piece of fleece that I glued to the fiberglass to add back some padding. http://i.imgur.com/i3FGG2v.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mLKe9T9.jpg Then I used a razor and cut it flush with the edges, I didn’t want to wrap the padding all the way to the underside since it could cause the armrest to not sit correctly. Then I laid on my piece of fabric and did one side at a time, I knew this was going to get a couple wrinkles in the corners since it can’t be stretched as easy. Wrapped the fabric to the underside and securely really well then screwed the plastic back onto the fiberglass. http://i.imgur.com/r6VjovU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8rTSbDy.jpg Put the button back together and the rest of the mechanism on the inside. http://i.imgur.com/y9IDQZQ.jpg Then I used a razor and cut it flush with the edges, I didn’t want to wrap the padding all the way to the underside since it could cause the armrest to not sit correctly. nealkubitz
Then I had to sew a new protection/cover piece, this is the piece that shows when the armrest is in the higher position. It had the little not touching symbol. I took a couple pieces of scrap and sewed them to the correct width. Then laid the old piece on it and used a sharpie to mark holes. There also was a flap that I had to create that glues/ sticks onto another piece inside of the plastic that helps such in the fabric when the rest is down, without that the fabric would stick out the back a little when it’s down. http://i.imgur.com/sIc5oHV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yPuybMO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xanCuoV.jpg That’s all, it looks great and feels more plush than the leather, we will see how long it lasts in the car with the dog. Luckily it was VERY easy to wrap it and probably only took an hour of real work. The Sewing was the tough part since I’m not that great at it. If it does get ruined ill order some 1000 denier Cordura fabric and re-do it, I need to get some anyway for another project for making a back seat full cover that is waterproof for winter hiking with my GSD. He likes to get the car dirty. http://i.imgur.com/KjKyeSD.jpg http://i.imgur.com/kNzNi6q.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hgtNhdW.jpg

discojon
Surprisingly, I like it. I like the fabric also, on your car that is. I've been down the road of custom interiors and for me it's just not worth it. Having said that, I'd love to cove my headliner and dash in leather... nealkubitz
Looks great! I only question the durability of the adhesive during hot days only because of prior experiences. It seems to be holding up really well so far, though we are just getting into the HOT(90-100) weather, so I am not 100% sure. I will keep this thread up to date. Dr_Tiwa
I'm in the middle of doing mine. Finally ordered the adhesion promotor and dye/paint. I've been plugging away at it for like a month and a half and my wife has been on me about getting my interior back in. My pillars are done I've just been struggling with what to do with the headliner cause the it seems pretty difficult to find the fabric I want in a width wide enough to cover it so I think I'll dye it. Any luck with the decals? Let me know how it goes man. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nealkubitz
I used just a basic fabric I think it was 60" wide, I got mine online cause nothing local I liked at all. It was just wide enough to cover it. The RIT Dye i tried to use on my sun visors did not work at all, not sure about the headliner but most dye's must soak for an hour or so in near boiling water, so submerging the entire headline would probably take a very large container and a ton of boiling water... If you paint it with fabric paint it would work, but again it will be a little rough when done. I head somewhere that you can use some rough steel wool on it after to give it back a fabric feel. It really soaks up the paint I used an entire can on my sun visors, and the rubber piece around the sunroof. I never made decals for the controls, don't really need them easy to press one way if it wrong just go the other way. Any other questions let me know. Dr_Tiwa
Well I meant the fabric paint. No I already tried Rit on my rear deck and voila! Same issue as you. I agree about the controls, I was just wondering if you had done anything with them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Ah ok yeah I would go paint, definitely the easier option, may experiment with steel wool or sand paper to remove the burs that built up on lint to make it smoother, I haven't gotten around to it. You can get a case of 6 cans on Amazon for $30 that should be plenty for it. Dr_Tiwa
I ordered a couple cans just to try it out. If everything goes well I'll order some more. Thanks for the thread by the way. Really helpful for getting that PITA headliner down. I still managed to lose my right b pillar screw under my carpet so that'll be another project. Dr_Tiwa
It's slowly coming along. So much paint involved with switching from tan. Ordered the JDM double din bezel so that will go in tomorrow and I'll order a black carpet, seats, and seatbelts. Door cards are in the works. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/11/anudenez.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/11/2ajy7uqe.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nealkubitz
Looking great! How did the spray work out on the HL? have too much trouble getting it in/out? need to spray the rest of the stuff now :-P I painted my dome lights with Rustolem flat black, would look good on yours too. Now just need to swap someone for black leather seats lol
Dr_Tiwa
Yeah I only used 3 full cans on the headliner and it came out perfect,. My rear deck lid was almost done after 1 can. I'm its just because the headliner fabric isn't as thick as the visors. I'm scared of those things haha. I'm not exactly sure what my plan is with those. I plan on going with 2010 or about WRX seats (cutting out the embroidery obviously). Had a mishap with the sunroof seal. Sprayed rustoleum on that instead of fabric paint. It never cured so now I'm trying to get it off to use the vinyl. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dr_Tiwa
So found the way to get the visors apart. First, you have to cut around the visor at the seam. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/01/ Be careful and pull the non mirror side back towards the mirror side. Don't forget to cut the plastic as well. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/01/ed9dda6b91e4a8cba51121435c82acc6.jpg%5B/img More pics and work to come...
