Brighter headlights?

Pulled my headlights out today.

Put some liquid wrench on the seized adjustment screws. 1 has loosened up, but the other's pretty stuck. I applied more & used some adhesive on the set screw top. Hopefully it will be enough to allow me to turn it. :S If not, that thing's going to take an hour to adjust.

As for the one with the cracked mounting bracket, I disconnected the ball points for the adjustments & used the same adhesive to see if I can fix the crack that goes through it. Failing that, I'll dig out some JB Weld (I think I have some) and try again.

Still on the lookout for headlights, but those JDM projectors are looking tempting, even if I would have a couple hours work ahead of me with changing the beam pattern.

Sidenote: ZERO wreckers around me have any lights for a 95-99 Legacy. :(

Ok, so the adhesive didn't work, but the set screw loosened up enough that I can turn it freely. 1 headlight down.

I managed to get the cracked one aimed better, but I'm going to have to replace it at some point.

At least I should be able to drive in the dark, now. Can do a real test this evening.

If all goes well, I'll order a set of the JDM headlights & do the beam pattern conversion & wiring harness change.

I took Stang's suggestion and ordered the Phillips X-treme bulbs. My lenses are clear, but my car still has the original bulbs so this should illuminate better, given all of the nighttime driving this time of year

I'm going to be stopping at Canadian Tire today to see what they have in stock for brighter bulbs. Hopefully with the headlight aiming, they'll do me well until I get a set of projectors in.

Sidenote: If a projector bulb dies...what do you replace it with!? I can't find that info anywhere.

You totally left out the coveted Morretts..

Best light output for the car. Glass housings and projectors.

Wow...I like those. :)

They're quite expensive, though.

Rare indeed. My story on finding them was nuts. A person that used to work in a JDM shop that went under had purchased them then never put them on his wagon. He was located in Dallas Tx. He came to my job and delivered them the first year I owned the LGT. That sort of luck will never happen for me again.

I'm looking into swapping out the low beams with these euro low beams that was a direct replacemt.

i feel like i know the place in TX you're talking about... they always had insane prices on ebay for jdm stuff but the best of it was always 'pickup only'

Zues, the guy said it went out of business about 2 years ago. I can't recall the name. But there are two big JDM shape here in the DFW (Dallas Fort Worth metroplex) that do it all. Ones in Richardson (north Dallas) and the other is in Arlington (right next to Fort Worth).

Prices aren't too too bad.

Yeah, that. The JDM projectors are wider, brighter, and have more distance than the 2 piece lights.

1 piece = A couple maglite mini flashlights in a wet paper bag.

2 piece = Slightly less terrible, but still awful.

JDM = Holy crap, you can see things!

Retrofit = I CAN SEE INTO THE FUTURE

You must post your retrofit pictures, the output from your lights is amazing!

I thought it was neat in the fog tonight how you could see the different beam patterns on my car.

The stock headlights (which are new units) throw light from each side of the housing, so you get two beams, and it isn't as well-defined, nor are they as bright.

The driving lights that I replaced the fog lights with, however, and which have the Narva RangePower +50 bulbs in them... they are solid cylinders of intense, well-defined light coming out of the car before spreading out. Kinda cool.

You can obviously tell in the photo how much brighter the driving lights (PIAA 520ATP) are as compared with my headlights - which were on high-beam in these photos.

Then I had fun:

3000+ lumens, wider than a halogen projector could ever dream of being. Once I pick up another Outback bumper and ditch the GT one, it'll be auxiliary lighting time. Already have a light bar halfway finished for an OB bumper, just need to fab brackets for the main bar. :spin:
