crazymonk8-8
What are you using for a rear diff? My legacy is rwd right now with only 370whp and I have gone through 3 rear diffs. I'm probably going to the r200 soon. Just curious as to what you are planning on using.
TheBlubaru
Subbed since you are doing exactly what I plan on doing eventually! I can't wait to see the progress! Are you planning on running a set of staggered wheels after the RWD conversion? God created turbo lag to give V8s a chance
bnguyenbb6
Thanks for the support guys! Its all coming together. I'm planning on going to drift events but it wont be caged or see any tandem for now. I have another Subaru so I'm okay with the "haters". I've wanted to do this for years now(circa 2009) but I didn't have enough knowledge or funds to pull it off. MH Subie- I don't have any but I can get some. It has 2 resonators but no muffler so it drones just a bit over 3k rpm. crazymonk8-8- I'm right around 370whp right now on E85 and I'll be using an STi R180 3.9(pictured above). It should be good for ~400whp assuming that the tires wont grip up too much (i.e.not running a super sticky tire). Are you on the R160 right now? You can always weld it. My fab guy(Russell/McRussellPants on Nasioc) ran an R200 on his STi. He said that the R180 was the way to go unless you were making big power. He needed a custom driveshaft, axles and subframe fabrication to fit the R200. He has since moved on though. bnguyenbb6
Subbed since you are doing exactly what I plan on doing eventually! I can't wait to see the progress! Are you planning on running a set of staggered wheels after the RWD conversion? Yes. I'm shipping my spare set of knuckles out tomorrow to get modded. It should increase the steering angle from ~36* to 45-50*. Stock 240sx with spacers and tie rods are around 42*. As it sits, the front wheels are too big for that angle and the front sway bar will need to be relocated as the tie rod will hit it. I plan on a 17x8 +25 or 17x8.5 +30 with a 225/45 front and an 18x9.5 235/40 or 255/35 rear
bnguyenbb6
I haven't updated in a little while...the starter motor finally died so the car sat until I could get another and install. Work didn't allow this until this past weekend. The knuckles still need to be sent out. One of the wheel bearings will need to be pressed out. Looking to get this done Friday along with the LCABs out of the Spec B control arms. I picked up an '04 FXT long block(B25 heads) with intake manifold and turbo that I'm looking to either build or use as a template for fabrication. It was "free" ; paid for with(on going) labor . I also picked up an '07 WRX transmission that lost 3rd gear. Owner said that there was no noise, just that it wouldn't go into third. Best part is that it came with Moore Performance Blast Plates that I was already looking for. This transmission will have the front diff removed for weight savings + LGT gears or just be used for spare parts(transfer gears, mount, center diff etc). The transmission will need to be pulled for the blast plates to be installed so I'm not sure if I'll install them on the LGT transmission or hold off until the LGT blows up. Dirty pic while still in the Forester: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2845/11182469895_f7bf92d63c_z.jpg I got my OG Go Pro(non HD lol) working so I'll get a quick video of the exhaust tomorrow on the way to work. Legacsti11
I like where this is going bro! will stay tuned for the progress... Would like to see more pic's but the one's you have are pretty good for now. I like the rims a lot never saw them before and the engine bay is not too shabby:) There are a lot of mods that you left out of the first post. When you get the time update the 1st post with all your mods, I'm curious to see the whole list. 05 Legacsti with toys, Efi Logics Tuned, Whitey Built
bnguyenbb6
I updated the first post with mods. It should be most of them but lmk if there is anything you see that I haven't listed(or curious about). I took a quick video with the Go Pro but the original Go Pro sound isn't great. I'll see if I can borrow my friends Hero3 with external mic this weekend.
Legacsti11
The steering wheel was left out of the mods and it should read ID 1000 and not 100 but I got what you were saying lol. bnguyenbb6
No video still. We had a cold front come in and the ice/sleet just let up today. I am pretty close to finishing up my E85 tune and should be ready to tear the rear drivetrain out and go RWD in the next month or so. I'm back to ECBS only on E85. The MBC/ECBS set up was spiking in cold weather(22-23psi) but would only hit 16-18psi in warmer weather. Any slight turn and it would change boost too much. It was suggested by Ron(Phatbotti) that I switched back to ECBS only due to the vast changes in temp from day to day and time of day. Its been 40-60* in the morning, 80-90 at noon and back down at night. Anyways, heres a quick VD dyno of a pull from earlier today. I'm guessing on the weight of the car, if anything, its too low. bnguyenbb6
Update: Car has been running great on E85. I ran into a few snags but got them sorted out. First snag: Fueling. My stock FPR was getting overlaoded on hot starts making the car misfire. I installed a Tomei Type L FPR and it has helped significantly. It still does it(because of the ECU controled FP duty cycle on starts) but its much better. Second: My welded diff wouldn't slide onto the spare transmission I bought. This had me concerned. Upon further inspection, the center bearing of the diff was welded in slightly crooked and wouldn't allow the shafts to slide in all the way. The diff I had welded was not gutted like it should have been so the welded gears holding the bearing were welded slightly biased to one side. I've already gutted the other diff I had from the spare transmission and am taking it to a welder this week. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7294/12035747605_8c601c5638.jpg Axle seals, transfer case gasket and diff mount all came in so I should be doing the swap in about 2 weeks. bnguyenbb6
Sorry for the lack of updates. Work and family come first. I finally had a chance to pull the car apart today. The center diff was taken apart and welded so that it only turns the rear wheels(vs 4wd if you welded it altogether). I started at 9am this morning and got done around 4pm only taking a break for lunch. For the swap: 1. Remove turbo back exhaust(I did this in two sections since I worked alone) 2. Disconnect driveshaft 3. Remove transmission mount(all of it). 4. Remove shift linkage from transmission.Remove 3 bolts on transmission, turn it out of the way, remove single bolt for front of linkage and then remove the spring pin. Removing the spring pin sucks. 5. Take off transfer case cover. 6. Install diff/gears 7. Reinstall parts 8. Nap. Overall it wasn't too bad but I did it alone in my driveway so it was tiring. I drove it around the block after filling it with transmission fluid but I haven't done any hard driving. Initial impression: The front already feels lighter(freer/quicker turn in) since the diff isn't turning the front. It feels and drives the same otherwise. I still need to gut the front axles and hopefully get to the R180 on Sunday. Pics from install. I didn't take many though because I wanted to get done: Transfer case and welded diff http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3668/12622759233_21f5c1d8a6.jpg Driveshaft removed, box holding exhaust up. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7353/12623077794_e08cca5920.jpg
