  1. 4 hours on the short block? Dang! Gotta wonder if the tune was off? I mean its not like you're pushing a ton of power for stock internals. That just sucks. Definitely interested to see what the post mortem tells you...
  2. WTF??? stock block in there? Any indications that the motor was having issues when you bought it from Michael? Oh man, so sorry to hear Not that its going be cheap but maybe its time to put a short block in that pretty built up? Now we're both down for the count with my 1st gear giving up the ghost at ORP last week...
  3. With a tip of the hat to the country of origin (as well as a play on words of a drink that can knock you on your butt) how about Sake Bomb or Sake Bomber?
  4. Hey I thought I had the blue bomber !!
  5. Hi Fahr, just started down the road with this 4032 motor. It's got about 4 track days on it so far. I'll take it for the odd weekend backroad toss but it's essentially a track toy now, (everything aft of the front seats gutted, etc). Shockingly, I got 7 years of daily driving and many track days each season at 300whp -ish with not a peep until a ringland finally let go last year. I mostly chalk that longevity up to the excellent tuning chops at Cobb here in Portland. The car now has the Cossy plugs with upgraded rods, bearings, valves-stock size, springs.
  6. ^This. Hence the reason I went with Cosworth 4032 forged. More than fine at 350 whp-ish power levels.
  7. Good information here for you to chew on Xtea. As for the debate between 4032 and 2618. I knew that going in. I also knew that I'd rather trust the folks at Rallispec to steer me right based on how I'm using the car. Not saying that 2618 is a bad idea for a daily driver, but when I posed that question to Rallispec they advised against it based on longevity of the motor if its being used as a non full race set up, (which is 99.99% percent of us, me included). True, 4032 doesn't have the same properties as 2618 but if I'm staying 350WHP or less, (and I am) and the car is only tuned and wrenched on at Cobb, arguably one of the best tuners in the country, (which it is) and the fact that its only run on the track with a can of 32oz. Torco that is also on a Torco specific map, (which it is). I'm fully confident that this motor is gonna be just fine Agreed that running pushing stock internals is a bad idea at 400HP. I wouldn't ever do it and like I said, its been done but I wouldn't be comfy with the risk.
  8. +1 for everyone's comments that it's all in the tune. Can a stock motor handle sub 400 HP goals? Absolutely. It's just that the more you push the envelope the less margin you have for error on things like your tune. The stock pistons and head studs are the only thing you'll need to worry about at these power levels. How much risk do you want to take? I ended up going with a Rallispec short block (their least expensive one) with an upcharge to Cosworth 4032 alloy Pistons which are much quieter than 2618 and more "street friendly". That said the car sees mostly track time and I wasn't willing to risk stock Pistons especially with my goal to move to a Dom 1.5xtr down the road... I'd probably lean towards sub 350 WHP, go stock Pistons and find a good tuner. A GOOD one. These cars at that power level are super fun and plenty fast
  9. Hey all, (especially Finkly!) Just heard from Gator, his phone is on the fritz to post on the forum so he wanted me to give you all an update. Sounds like he's discovered a tick in his dry sump pump and the Silver Eagle won't be racing tomorrow. Possible a bad bearing in the pump he thinks. Either way it would be a bummer to have it go down and cause oiling issues in his motor. He'll be racing the Integra tomorrow and the Legacy will be there but it won't be seeing any track time. Everyone is welcome to still come down but if you had your heart set on seeing the wagon on track, it was just not to be this weekend
  10. Too bad I don't have more, (any?) race experience, would love to tag team that race with you
  11. Yes! Oh wait, now this means more time scouring the web for live streaming coverage of the races. I need glasses..
  12. Hard to say how much I've put into mine since purchasing it in late '05 with 7k mi. On it for $21,700. The price was so great and the power output was so drastic compared to my '98 GT wagon that I told myself I couldn't possibly need to ever modify the car. Well we all know how that story goes... 10 years later it's now at 80K mi. And with the new forged Rallispec block and recent swap out to a StopTech trophy kit, I'd say I've probably put $25k+ into the car over the years. But it's been worth it
  13. As long as everything is in stock, Rallispec told me that its about 5 business days typically to build a motor and get it out the door. Once I moved up to the Cosworth pistons, which they had in stock unlike my original Mahle's, it was 6 days to build.
  14. That Gator is such a subie temptress with his free gift ploy
  15. If you can take a pic of the hole that needs to be modified for the Moroso that would be great. That way I can pass the info on to Cobb before they do the install
