  1. My Legacy XT does it as well, when I go from reverse to drive. My wife’s Onyx XT OB sounds even louder when she shifts into gear. Really pressing on the brake pedal and holding it for a second when shifting to drive seems to mitigate it a bit but it does seem like a normal CVT thing.
  2. I posted this elsewhere but thought it was relevant to do so here as well. I had registered years ago but had never received an email notification for any threads I tried to follow including ones I started. Could never contact anyone either to ask about the issue, on the old site. Today after logging in here after about a month since my last visit I find the new site, and for the first time ever, maybe 5 years or more, email notifications came in. And the site is fully functional on all my devices- iPhone, iPad, and Mac. First time ever!! Good job!
  3. I want to congratulate everyone involved with getting this site improved. I had registered years ago but had never received an email notification for any threads I tried to follow including ones I started. Today after logging in here after about a month since my last visit I find the new site, and for the first time ever, maybe 5 years or more, email notifications came in. Quite exciting.
  4. Is that body damage/scratches around the door handle?
  5. I use the MySubaru app to remote start, but only in the winter. Has never failed yet and normally takes less than minute, usually about 30 seconds. I don’t know what the Starlink renewal fee will be but unless it is minimal it probably won’t be worth it for me. My wife loves it for her Outback though so I think she will renew it. We have no line of sight to our cars so I don’t think the fob method would work for us in any event. But the app has always been reliable, but obviously subject to their network.
  6. My wife ran into similar radio issues when she used the Sirius stations on her Outback XT. She no longer uses Sirius and has not complained about the issue since.
  7. My Legacy XT has just over 7000 miles (purchased July 2020) and my wife’s Outback XT has almost 22,000 miles (purchased December 2019). Both seem as solid as a rock with no noticeable rattles or squeaks. Our previous vehicles - 2006 Legacy GT, 2005 Outback XT - both had significant dash rattles. I came to think of those rattles as a Subaru feature. But no such “feature” on these new cars thankfully.
  8. Actually it specifically looks like a Legacy, mine is black but that white really did appeal to me. Almost all other sedans have gone to more angular body styles which limits their headroom, some times significantly as in the Accords. The more rounded and curved lines of the Legacy are quite recognizable. There will always be those who have an agenda with their comments even if it’s not based in reality, they’re easy to ignore.
  9. I mix it up each time. Makes me feel better since I’ve used premium the last 15 years. The stations I go to have 3 levels, regular, medium, premium and I just alternate. For now I can afford a few cents a gallon difference in price, but I don’t commute long distances. Peace of mind is worth a few cents.
  10. I have a 2020 Legacy XT that was manufactured and acquired by me in July of 2020 and I’ve never had the DMS system come back on by itself. Occasionally it is off when I start the car up. I normally turn it off myself on sunny days because I wear prescription glasses and use fit-over sunglasses when in the car. The DMS system cannot handle 2 layers of lenses - prescription + fit-overs. It will disable itself every time within a few minutes. If I don’t place the fit-overs on it will function perfectly but that’s only on cloudy or overcast days when I’m not using them. When I’ve left the system on its warnings have always been appropriate and appreciated. I do not use the driver recognition feature since I’m the only driver. So for me the only issue is the 2 sets of lenses, those that don’t use 2 sets of lenses should have few issues.
  11. Which means few people would ever see one. When I used those services to check inventory the car listed was almost always gone when I checked with the actual dealer. This was back in the early part of 2020 when I was waiting on my order. I first started with a radius of 250 miles from Baltimore, didn’t see any then I expanded to 500 miles. I used that distance with the fantasy of flying out to a dealer and driving the car home. Only found a few, mostly Touring ones, then decided to just hassle my dealer to see if there were any further updates on my order. Fortunately I wasn’t in any bind but there were some potentially expensive repairs on the horizon with my almost 15 year old Legacy so I didn’t want to wait too long. I know the production runs will vary but it seems if you have specific criteria in mind ordering one rather than driving by every dealer in the area every day might be a better plan. If you take time to decide whether you’ll take the color or a specific option, or lack thereof, in an available car it may very well be gone by the time you get back there. If those expensive repairs had begun to crop up I would have been booking a flight and taking whatever the dealer had if it was still there.
  12. That’s what I found! When I was having to wait 7 months for my Legacy XT I checked all the Cars.com, Autotrader, etc. sites to check for availability of a similar model to what I had ordered. I used a radius of 500 miles around me. The few I found listed on those sites by the time I checked with the dealers they were sold. Part of the problem was, it seemed, that in the XTs they produced more Touring versions than the Limited that I wanted. Those were more money but after a while I decided what the hell I’ll cough up the extra, but those were all gone as soon as I decided that. Interestingly I have never been able to get a Legacy on the day I wanted when I was at the dealer ready to buy. My first Legacy in ‘02 or ‘03 I wanted a 5 speed so they first had to swap with another dealer and I had to come back a couple days later. The 2nd Legacy, an ‘06 GT Limited, also a 5 speed had to come from another state and again I had to come back some days later. This 2020 XT took 7 months. I’ve often wondered whether Legacys were bought up by rental companies but I’ve never seen any available form them. Seems like they get snapped up about as soon as they’re made with a lot of them having been pre-ordered.
  13. That’s the situation I found myself in waiting for my car. I wanted an XT, my dealer had only one when I decided to place my order and it was already sold and gone before I got there. Over the 7 months I had to wait I kept checking their website and saw non-XT Legacys listed occasionally but those were almost always gone by the time I drove by there just to look at one. I never even saw a 2020 Legacy before placing my order and only once did see one there when I went with my wife to have her Onyx Outback serviced. That one was owned by a customer. The XTs were quite limited in production during most of 2020 and Legacys overall took a back seat to the Outbacks, I assume, but they seem to sell immediately. Maybe they figure there’s no need to spend the money to advertise them. I also find it quite interesting in my community there are many 2 Subaru households a fair number of them - one Legacy, one Outback which we also are and have been for almost 20 years.
  14. I think the last Subaru sedan tv commercial I saw were the Paul Hogan - Crocodile Dundee - Outback sedan ads back in the late 90s or early 2000s I think. Those led me to my first Legacy in ‘03 or ‘04 which led to my ‘06 Legacy GT Limited. Since the Legacys and Outbacks share so much it costs little to keep making them side by side, and they sell enough to be profitable. Plus it’s always been somewhat of a prestige in having something that not many other people have. But there are a lot of them out there, I even occasionally see one of the old Outback Sedans. And currently in my mid-Atlantic region I’m seeing an explosion in sedans. Toyota especially must be selling the hell out the Avalon, except for Teslas, which I’m seeing a boatload of new ones, I’m seeing a lot of new Avalons. Before I firmly decided on my 2020 Legacy I considered a Camry and an Accord, and since I had to wait 7 months to get the Legacy I really started pricing everything out on those cars wondering if I was ever going to get the Legacy. I would have probably gone for the Accord Sport 2 liter turbo but it still wouldn’t have given me what I got in the Legacy. I had seen a few Avalons in that time and thought they really looked nice but didn’t give them much thought. Now I see them everywhere and love the way they look. If for some reason I had to make a choice again and Legacys weren’t available I would really take a strong look at them. But sedans will be around a long time. I see so many new Teslas, BMWs, Audis, in addition to the Avalons, Camrys and Accords that the sedan market seems very healthy. But who knows maybe those fools who predicted the demise of the sedan 40 years ago will be proven right one day, I won’t hold my breath.
  15. “got a 2021 WRX Premium CVT in World Rally blue.. Loved the power and handling but the ride was just too rough.. Got a 2022 Legacy Sport in Abyss blue.. Very nice..” Congratulations! I understand what you mean about the WRX. I came from a 2006 Legacy GT Limited 5 speed and had always admired the WRX. Was strongly considering one since at the time I really wanted to get a manual transmission. But as time went on, my wife got a 2020 Onyx Outback, I felt more comfortable with the CVT and felt the WRX was just a little too rough for me as well. So I acquired a 2020 Legacy XT limited and have been extremely happy. I still admire the WRX when I see one but I realize it’s not for me.
  16. Just about every market has been rattled over the last year or so. Repercussions will probably be felt in different ways for several years. The pandemic is far from over and who knows what’s next on the horizon, devastating heat waves, wildfires, catastrophic flooding, all happening now throughout the world will change every manufacturer of all goods to radically change their projections. Taking numbers from a small period of time while the world is still reeling is pretty much meaningless.
  17. Since I couldn’t get my 2020 Legacy Limited XT until the end of July which was close to when the 2021 cars started to be offered I don’t think sales numbers in general for the last one to two years are very relevant. Looking at the sales reports I get from Subaru they have done quite well. As far as sedans being made, since every major manufacturer has a variety of sedans that they promote, many in the performance category, and because they make the most sense for most people, not everyone is a soccer parent carting kids around, they will persist. Most of my married friends aren’t having children, which of course could change and isn’t necessarily indicative of anything. But many of them are buying Camaros and Chargers, Audis, and BMWs so there will be no death of the sedan. And Subaru would be stupid to shoot themselves in the foot when Honda, Toyota, Lexus and Acura continue to introduce sedan models with no decline in sight. I think I first read about the projected “disappearance of sedans” back in the 80s when dads needed to transport kids but couldn’t stand to be seen in a station wagon or minivan, and SUV sales began to accelerate. But the sedan has remained a stalwart model. Can’t think of one manufacturer that has plans to eliminate them. I doubt Subaru would be the very first company in the world to do so. I had people upset with me when I traded my previous Legacy instead of selling it to them, and it was over 14 years old. Almost made me regret that decision but I got a fair deal with minimal hassle.
  18. My wife just took her Onyx in to the dealer a week ago for another reason, she had left the gas cap off. That causes all kinds of hoohah. While it was there they performed some other update to the system, all of this was done for free so we didn’t get any specifics on what the update involved. They just said they updated the “radio”. She was already on the 380 software which was done a while ago so I don’t know what this was about.
  19. I waited 6 months to get mine. I think Subaru found they hit a home run with the XT versions and increased production when they could. When I ordered mine in January of 2020 my dealer had only ever had one other on the lot that they sold that day. I don’t believe they got any more until mine came in July 2020. After 8 months with mine I adore it and very glad I waited it out to finally get it.
  20. I’ve been trying to determine whether using Sirius has any impact on these reboots. My wife has a 2020 Onyx that she got in December 2019 and I have a 2020 Legacy that I got in July of last year. Both vehicles are on the 380 software. She’s had a run of reboots recently and uses Sirius a lot. I believe each reboot occurred while she was listening to a Sirius channel. I’ve never used Sirius and have never had a reboot on my Legacy. This seems coincidental but I’m trying to find some reason why she’s had so many reboots and I’ve never had any. Sirius usage seems to be the only difference in our habits. We both use Apple CarPlay but she hasn’t had an issue with that since she changed cables shortly after getting her car. I don’t use it that much but have never had an issue when I have.
  21. We’ve never purchased an extended warranty and in the case of each car we’ve owned, we tend to keep them for 10 years or more, it would have been money down the drain if we had purchased them. That being said we have GEICO auto insurance and they have a very reasonable Mechanical Breakdown Insurance that just gets added to our overall policy. For far less than the dealer/manufacturer warranties. We did add that to our new 2020s. If that wasn’t available we wouldn’t have bothered. After 50 years of buying our own cars I can’t imagine how much we would have thrown away buying such policies. But for the majority of that 50 years we’ve owned Japanese cars, if we had bought domestics my opinion might be very different. As far as the turbos, Subaru has that nailed down. Our previous cars were a 15 year old Outback and a 14 year old Legacy, both turbos with no engine issues. We did have a couple out of warranty issues crop up in one our Hondas and one Subaru and both companies stepped up and covered the repairs with no cost to us. Those policies though do really make the dealers happy with a terrific profit.
  22. I haven’t ever had that happen but I did see it happen on my wife’s Onyx before she finally got it updated from the original 502 software. But I have definitely had it happen with my phones and iPads before, and it does bug me. But at least my car doesn’t shut down on it’s own and then restart while I’m driving. That would definitely bug me:)
  23. No excuses here, just delight with my Legacy and my wife’s Onyx. Bugs..yeah sure, just like my iPhone, Sony tv, Fios dvr. But they deliver everything I want. With my Legacy other than the driver monitoring system which I turn off I’ve had no issues. If someone has a true lemon then there are specific mechanisms to pursue. But as far as overall satisfaction, I think the records and posts indicate the vast majority are happy, and not making any excuses.
