  1. I’m glad you mentioned that. I haven’t tried it but on occasion I’ve used the paddle shifter to downshift to get some downhill braking. If you just use the paddle without engaging manual mode it will revert back to normal as soon as your speed and accelerator pressure level off. I’ll try using using the shifter from a start and see what that feels like.
  2. I have no explanations for that. Based on the email that some owners got about the 704 OTA firmware update, map updates were also to be available soon OTA as well. In the manual it shows that specific regions can be selected for download instead of all North America when done over wifi or hotspot. I’m curious to see how that goes in the future.
  3. That is definitely the moral of the story. To be fair though 504/704 were big updates that addressed a lot of issues. Hopefully future updates would be less encompassing and you’d be advised to just wait until you’re in for service and have them check and install any available updates. The Outback forums would be a good way to keep track of what’s going on with any updates. That’s a very active forum. One indication of the changes brought about in 504 is the installation of the current map version update for the navigation units. On my Legacy that came with 504 installed it took 27 minutes to install the map update by a usb drive. On my wife’s Onyx Outback still on 502 using the same usb drive it took over 90 minutes. We both had the same previous map version. These Starlink systems are slow at best but on the original 502 firmware they were just painful.
  4. It is definitely a very different experience. But what you described - revs jumping all over - is exactly what I perceive as well. Over time you learn to anticipate what the engine is going to do and learn how to compensate. I came from an ‘06 Legacy GT manual transmission so I’m really having to learn. But even from a standard automatic transmission this is a major change. The behavior of the car doesn’t change but your driving habits will as your experience grows. The paddle shifters can also help get the revs where you need them when slowing down as well as accelerating although I don’t often use them. One thing that will never change is trying to floor it from a stop, that just does not work with this set up. So anticipate this when making turns on red or proceeding after a stop sign. Don’t try to dart out past oncoming traffic, that will just get you hit or at least get horns blowing at you.
  5. We just updated my wife’s Outback with the new maps version. The Outback is still on the 502 software, while my Legacy is on the current 504. I suspect that’s why the update took over 90 minutes on my wife’s car while on mine it was less than 30 minutes.
  6. That came out a few days ago. Owners can check at https://subaru-maps.com/#/auth/sign-in You can also download an installer application to your computer and use it to install the update onto a usb drive. The download from that site and installation onto usb took me about 50 minutes total. And the updated maps were installed on my car under 30 minutes. I took a drive while it was installing and then the car must be restarted for completion. Actually a very easy process all the way. I used my MacBook Pro for the downloader application and usb installation. On that site you create an account, I used the MySubaru log in info and then enter your VIN of any of your vehicles and it will tell you what your subscription status is and any available updates.
  7. 704 does essentially the same as 504 minus a few things. If someone connected their Legacy to wifi or a phone’s hotspot an update can be checked for. I would imagine 704 would show up unless you already had the 504 usb update onboard.
  8. 704 is the OTA update, since you’ve updated to 504 you will not see 704 if you check for available updates. Those still on 502 or 503 will see 704 as available if they check from their vehicles. Unfortunately many who were on 502 and downloaded and installed 704 OTA have had major issues. It seems those who were on 503 did not have the same issues, there are more reports of successful installations from 503 than 502. I have not seen any new significant issues posted about 504. My Legacy delivered 3 weeks ago came with 504. But it seems Subaru will be making available abbreviated versions in the future that can be downloaded by wifi or cell network and installed without a usb drive. But for now reading about the serious issues that have arisen I would forgo 704 for a while. I had intended to download that to my wife’s Outback but since she’s on 502 I’ve recommended she make an appointment at the dealer.
  9. Unless you have 502 or 503 you will not see the OTA update. Those that have installed it - 704 - from 502 have had major issues. Those updating from 503 seem to have it install without issue. My choice would be to go the dealer and have them do the 504 update. If you’re still on 502 I wouldn’t touch the OTA one.
  10. If you have 504 you won’t see the recently released OTA update for 704. As far as has been reported nothing newer than those 2 have been released.
  11. That’s the update that has bricked a number of head units. Looking at the instructions it shows “current software” as 503. Those that installed this OTA update from 503 seemed to have no issues but those that were updating from 502 seemed to be the ones with the bricked units. Best to go to the dealers for the updates until this is sorted out. The 504 update performed by the dealers is a more complete version also.
  12. For those that have the original 502 software be aware that there is a 704 over the air update available to be downloaded and installed over wifi or even a cell network. It’s an abbreviated version of 504 and doesn’t include all the changes, although it does include full screen Apple CarPlay. However if you don’t follow the other forum there are many complaints that this update has bricked or somehow corrupted the head units. Some have no A/C control or Eye Sight safety features operational. Those that have gotten to the dealers are waiting on replacements. There are just too many posts about this to make it worth the risk, although some have reported successful installations. My car came with 504 but my wife’s Outback still has 502 so I had considered doing this OTA update but not anymore. She’ll just have to make an appointment at the dealer.
  13. On my previous car, a 2006 Legacy GT, I had 17” 45 tires and would always scrape a curb if I wasn’t careful. I was paranoid about this when getting my new Legacy Limited XT because it is much more difficult to see barriers or curbs as you approach, the ‘06 Legacy had a down sloping hood and was a smaller car overall. So now I wind up parking a foot or two out from the curbs in my neighborhood but the car has 18” 50 tires and even if I pull all the way up to the curb there’s no scraping. My model does not have the front view camera so I was sweating it at first but now I find I can pull all the way up till the tires bump the curb without an issue. Although I’m still usually out further than I had intended.
  14. My Legacy XT has the 18” wheels I’ve had no issues with this. With my previous ‘06 Legacy GT with 17” wheels I did. I just checked and if he does have a Limited 2020 he should also have 18” wheels so there really shouldn’t be a problem. My previous Legacy I would scrape the bumper on the curbs in my community when I parked. I no longer do with the new one and have not scraped any driveways but I can imagine certain ones could be a problem.
  15. You’ll find that the MySubaru app will give you such remote controls along with general information about your car. One thing to be aware of, I discovered this while sitting in my Limited XT going through the settings on the head unit. I had accidentally pushed the steering wheel heater control. After a while I started wondering why it was getting so hot in the car. It was a mild day and I had the windows rolled up. When I placed my hands on the wheel I thought damn that’s hot. It was heating the whole car. In the winter this will be very toasty!
  16. That’s what I’ve found. If someone will be riding with me such as my wife, or I need all doors opened, I go to the passenger door first and as soon as I touch it all doors unlock. If I’m riding alone then I just go to the driver’s door.
  17. My previous Legacy, 2006 Limited GT, was lower and always crunching the curb in parking spots. My current Limited XT is higher and doesn’t hit the curbs, thankfully, since it has a higher hood line and the curbs are not visible as I approach. The GT had a sloping front end and I could see the curbs as I came closer. At one time I had a trailer hitch installed on my old Legacy. That was a big problem and always scraped on inclines such as going into a gas station. Fortunately getting rid of the hitch solved that for me but I still had to be cautious. This Legacy has given me no such issues.
  18. That seems reasonable. My wife got her 2020 Outback Onyx XT at end of December. There is no recall for that vehicle. And i haven’t seen anything listed other than for 2019 vehicles. But they may have used the same fuel pump in some early 2020s. Anyway there are no official recalls for any 2020 models as yet.
  19. The 2020 Legacy Limited XT that I ordered in January finally got to me a week ago. The original delivery estimate when the order was processed in January was for May, that was before Covid fully hit and the factory shut down. To get a 2021 that I’d want would probably take until January at this point. My dealership has only had one XT before mine, back in December. I traded an ‘06 Legacy Limited GT and I’m very happy. It’s very different but I’m really enjoying it.
  20. From the Petroflo manufacturer, temps are Celsius’s and far exceed anything we see here in this country both at the high and low temp. PETROFLO-Synthetic-0w20-5w20-Motor-Oil-Spec-Sheet.pdf
  21. It’s moved to where you only have to do 2 taps. On the Home screen at the bottom tap the car icon and the very next screen it’s right there to turn on or off. I have to say from being in my wife’s Onyx XT Outback and seeing how this feature was working I had every intention of turning it off as soon as I got my new Legacy and keep turning it off every time. However whether it’s because of the new software that mine came with or the way I drive it has not been an issue. Over 3 or 4 days it’s only kicked in 3 or 4 times. All were appropriate where I was stopped for a reasonable period before it kicked in. I have not had it kick in at any stop signs or when I’ve pulled into a parking space. So for now I’m leaving it alone. It may have been my wife’s driving habits that made this so aggravating. But for now I’m ok, I’ll see how this plays out over time. I may change my mind later on and if so it is now easier to turn it off.
  22. When I got mine and confirmed that it had 504, I’m sure yours will as well, I went around to the service department to speak with on of the service writers about my wife’s car. The guy just told me they always contact Subaru’s system and install whatever is shown there. He didn’t know about any specific software update and I don’t think he was really paying that much attention to what I was trying to say. I’m thinking not all dealers get the updates at the same time and when some check they get the system to state up to date. It may depend on what servers they connect to when their system checks. Kinda like smartphone updates.
  23. Great news! First thing I did was check the software version, it was the updated 504. The car has a July manufacture date.
  24. Thank you! Hopefully yours will available very quickly. Anticipating today’s possibility I had cleared everything out of my old car early yesterday morning. So I was ready to go. I just wish it wasn’t so stinking hot, I’m trying to get the settings where I want them and I just have give up after a while and go back inside.
  25. I will be picking up my car tomorrow at 10am. Hopefully the final transaction goes smoothly and I’ll be driving it home shortly thereafter.
