Nothing. They remove the manual clutch and/or flywheel and they install your flexplate off your old motor. That allows the torque converter to boltup once the trans is in position.
Engines are the same.
Perfect. Thanks a lot!

Hello again,
I know y'all are probably sick of me posting a lot of threads, but I need help. I am probably dumb--I can not find much information. I found a good core Ej255 but it is off a manual and I have the 5EAT. I was just wondering, if anyone has a link, or idea of what I need to get changed for it to bolt up to the automatic transmission?
I was not able to find anything, I probably am not looking for the correct information.
Thanks a lot.

you know can buy a new shortblock for $1800 or so
Yes but I got a rebuildable core w/ accessories for 1.1k shipped. I can sell the other parts (if they are in good shape) and get some money back. I know someone who is a Subaru Tech who is going to rebuild and replace the current shot motor.

Sounds like you are making a hand grenade and your tuner is too nice. Junkyard engines and billet turbines are bad mix
Well the plan was to rebuild it before putting it in the car. Plan was and will never be throw the junkyard engine in as is.
-
pretty much any jmp turbo has that upgrade
Cool! Good to know! Thanks!
If that wheel will flow more then a stock vf52, you may not get all the performance your paying for with stock fueling.Other then that, I really don't know enough about the tuning for that wheel.
Ahh okay. Now that makes sense. Thanks!
As said, the issues the tuner is eluding to are that you'll run out of fueling fast on a stock setup with an upgraded VF52.Ahhh okay now that makes sense. Thanks!
Might sell the car as is, because the junkyard I had bought the motor from is dodging my calls and only responds with the same answer to my emails "ready to ship", and I am getting fed up dealing with these types of people everyday. Even their website is down now >

Hi All,
I am looking to buy a VF52 that has been rebuilt by a very reputable turbo shop with a billet wheel upgrade and has been ported and polished. I talked to my new tuner who said he can tune it, but the billet wheel is going to be an issue.
Anyone here have the billet wheel upgrade on their VF52 and using stock fueling? Any issues you are having?
Thank you

Hello,
As anyone gotten the 5EAT tune from Xtreme Racing Tuning (XRT)? Have you noticed better shifting after all? I am reading a lot of mixed reviews about it, and I wanted know if anyone on here has gotten it and their review on it; if it is worth the money or skip out on it?
Thanks.

As mentioned above (I just swapped an JDM EJ20X into my 2005 Baja using the Baja ECU & harness - planning on a tune next week) since they KEPT your USDM ECU & harness - you should be fine (and since you didn’t get a tune - no need to retune #smallblessings). Sorry swap didn’t work out #hassle.

Glad your swap went better than mine! I did actually get it tuned, but I ordered a COBB AP (so it will remove the tune) and found a tuner who will send me an e-tune so I can drive my car home and use it for a little while. Going to send him data logs every few days until it is all good to go, then I will save up to get a pro-tune.

not sure how any of us would have known what your shop did for your last engine swap, but glad you figured it out.
I only ask because I believe some owners here have slapped on an ej20x block and head, and wanted to know if they replaced the ECU/harness...just glad I got it all figured out. Should be a straight drop in without a hiccup...hopefully.
-
I'm confused.
When you had the EJ20x installed, was any of the wiring/ecu changed?
If not, then you should be fine as you are going back to what you had.
If so, then you would likely need to reverse whatever was done for the EJ20x.
Was able to finally talk to the shop, they only changed the head and block. The ECU, harness, manifolds, etc are from the ej25. I will be fine to swap an ej25 back in...thanks everyone!

Your car came from the factory with an ej255 and harness, and even with a tune for that motor in fact.
Correct, so it originally had the ej255. Head gasket went, got an ej20x long block installed. Now I want to go back to ej255 (motor I got has been rebuilt) and wanted to know if I need to change my ECU and harness since the long block is out of a 2.0?
Thanks.

Hello all,
I am back yet again because I am in a bit of a pickle.
So here it goes:
Back in 2018 I bought a 05 LGT. Couple months after the head gasket went. I was tight on cash as almost everything I saved went into buying the car. I only had enough to get the long block replaced with an EJ20X. I went ahead and did it. (It still is my only car and my only means of transportation).
I took it to the shop and got it replaced. I was then told to get it tuned (it was expensive so I put a hold on it for a while) since it has a 2.5 map and will most likely run rich if I do not put a 2.0 map on it so I did. Up until a few months ago it was running fine, then one day...spun the bearing. I purchased a rebuilt EJ255 motor now and going to get it replaced once it comes in.
For those who have just swapped the longblock over, did you keep the USDM EJ255 wiring harness and ECU? I ask just so I know if I need to get a new harness to make the EJ255 work properly.
Thank you in advance and please no rude comments. I am learning from my mistakes which is why I did not buy another EJ20X.

Mod please delete--purchased motor.

Hello,
As title states I am looking for a complete EJ255 motor assembly (plug and play) for a 05-06 LGT 5EAT. I am willing to pay for shipping. I found a few motors at different junkyards, but prefer to purchase from the forum. I will only buy from the junkyard if no-one has one for sale here.
Please text me 949-391-2398 or PM me.
Thank you.

Still for sale? Willing to ship to socal?
-
You should inform people of mileage.. and probably post a video of it running. It will help you sell it faster. My 2 cents.

BUMP $100 + shipping for a "mechanic's special" CATTED downpipe
Pm sent for downpipe... just confirming I will need to take this to a exhaust shop to get it properly fixed?
-
Hello,
Does anyone have a catted downpipe for a 4th gen LGT automatic? Not looking for OEM. Please comment or message me if you do. I am willing to pay for shipping.
Thanks.

year will matter
2005..did not know there was 2 versions of the EJ255...but the engine I am looking at is from a 2005, same year as me.
-
Is the new motor from an 05/06 Legacy GT or OBXT?
It is from a Legacy GT

I feel that we are going in circles. It's great that your DP is fine but if it is stock OEM DP it will prevent any real power gains from the setup that is capable of producing 330WHP. Stock DP, manual or auto are limiting any upgrade to what is (informally) known as Stage 1, that's where Cobb AP is great. It's just a tune on stock h/w.
Aftermarket DPs allow for a much better flow thus allowing engine to breath more easily and thus take advantage of engine and capabilities, even with stock turbo (btw what turbo are we talking about here). Because of better flow provided aftermarket DPs allow car to be taken to Stage 2 and Stage 3 levels of power - that's where 330WHP is.
There is no point buying anything beyond long block from 330WHP setup if you are keeping stock DP. It will be restricted to Stage 1 power by tune to keep the car running. Stock intake is fine until you are way up there in power (I run stock intake on Stage 2 without any problems).
I may be parroting all the things that you already know, but I can't help the feeling that you are making a decision too quick to just buy parts from the other car. I recall myself being confused with all the terms and idioms people were sharing with me here when I started the quest to Stage 2; simply trying to pass the knowledge.
Good luck.
Thanks for the info! I still have plenty of time before deciding what route to go with. I do not mind using stock downpipe and losing some power. I currently have an SPT intake and the ej255 engine I am looking at also has an aftermarket intake.
All other motors I am looking at are stock/have not been rebuilt and are asking $2500 with 80k+ miles which is ridiculous imo. It's why I kind of have my mind set on the already rebuilt motor. But I do see your point, I don't want to jump the gun and end up with another headache.
I can always upgrade the downpipe to another catted one too at a later time should I choose that route, not a very hard job to do and I will get a tune for it same day.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to give some guidance. I will keep this thread updated with whatever I choose to do.
What change needs to be done?

Thanks for the response. Does anything need to be done to that to make it work properly or just swapping over the flexplate will be enough for it to work?
