  1. I would imagine the design is the same on both, just minus the cover? Not that they upgraded the internals or anything. I could see no adverse affect to leaving the cover off then.
  2. Hmm, I might be interested in that. What do you have left with it? Thanks, I really appreciate the offer. Looked like the black part that I would need goes through the floor board? I will try and rig up a way to mount the cover back on and then if that doesn't work I will take you up on the offer if it's still available. I'll be dealing with it this weekend.
  3. Thanks coco! I'll just chop off the nuts:) and leave the cover off. I don't see any other way to get them out, they are in a pretty tight spot. Must not be any corrosion issues with having the linkage exposed then.
  4. Looking for a little help. I was going to put the short shifter and bushing in today, but the bolts on the cover just spin... all but one anyway. The plastic housing they go into was already broken and cracked when I got there. I absolutely hate it when they use plastic to hold the head of a bolt to anything in a vehicle! I feel like I read somewhere that the cover to the shift linkage was removed from the factory in mid 2010 on these cars? Is that correct? If that's the case I will just cut the bolts off with a dremel and be done with it. It's a little tough to get anything on the topside of that stud to hold it enough to get the nuts off. I'll go back in there next weekend when I pull things apart for replacing the center diff. I think I can do the center diff job without taking the exhaust out.
  5. Those are great numbers! More of a stage 1+ with the Cobb, BOV, fuel pump and boost solenoid...?
  6. Now it's just new guys like me picking up the GT for a decent used turbo option and we are coming in asking the same questions you all had 8 years ago. I search most everything I need to know, but sometimes it's nice to have a conversation with someone who has been through it before. Thanks, I appreciate you all and your knowledge!
  7. Thanks for the heads up Zee! Any suggestions on a good option(s) for a solid BPV? I have seen the Turbosmart Kompact BOV mentioned a couple of times, anything else nicer than that?
  8. I ordered my Kartboy short shift kit with the Perrin brass bushing. I ordered some trans cross member Whiteline bushings as well for when I replace my center diff. I will be ordering my center diff today as well. I'm thinking about just getting a J pipe now too because I have to remove the exhaust to access the center diff anyway. Those nuts/studs on the J pipe look scary rusty. I'm going to start putting some grease on the bolts over the next week to see if I can loosen things up a bit before I have to get in there and attempt to get those studs and nuts off without breaking them. I'm trying to decide if I want to get a new BPV at the same time and just get the pro tune right away or run stage 2 Cobb tune for a bit and test things to see what I really need. I saw a system pressure test around here some where, I just don't recall if it tests the BPV...? I wish I didn't have to put the money into the center diff, that cash could be spent on something more fun for sure!
  9. Good to know... I would have thought the bearing to be smoother than the bushing. Ugh, I'll kick myself when I find out, but what does NVH stand for?
  10. Looks like the Twilight Blue Metallic from here. Congrats on the new car!!
  11. This is the kit I will be picking up because it has a bearing over the bushing and claims to shorten the throw by 38% compared to the 30% claim by the others I have seen. http://www.kartboy.com/x4/product.php?productid=16286&cat=278&page=1
  12. I put a new plastic skid plate on my GT last night. The one on the car was busted in half and had the turbo exposed, so I figured I should at least get that covered up for now. I picked up a new plastic cover for $45 shipped and it fit nicely. https://www.carid.com/2010-subaru-legacy-chassis-frames-body/replace-engine-cover-83727922.html I will look into the aluminum skid plate if I get that far in the mods to warrant it. Still gotta figure the center diff too...
  13. Man, it's nice to get all that dealt with under warranty, especially the torque converter! I have never owned a new enough vehicle to run full synthetic oil. I always find it leaks more and usually has more engine noise too. I run 20% Lucas oil stabilizer with conventional oil to deal with the heat.
  14. I changed the rear pads and rotors tonight. I had to hammer the pads out of the mounting bracket, they were seized in pretty good. I also had to file a bunch of build up out of the bracket to get the new pads to fit tightly, but move freely. The brake pedal feels better now, I don't think there was a ton of breaking happening back there the way it was. Now on to figure out the center diff issue. I'm going to search to see if there's an upgraded option for the WRX or something that I can use in the LGT...? I'm probably going to get a J pipe at that time too because I'll have the pipe off anyway and might as well upgrade.
  15. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket option for the Viscous Coupler?
  16. No, I have all 4 tires the same size, but don't know what it had on it before I got to it at 126,000 miles. I heard/felt the noise when I had the wheel turned and moving either forward or reverse. Seemed like the inner/outer tire was slipping with a clunk after the slip of the wheel. I can drive to work (about 10-12 min and never get over 60mph) and maneuver slowly into a parking spot without any noise. The sound only came after driving the car for 45min or so, which seemed like something heated up and caused the issue. I'm leaning towards what your gut reaction was, dgoodhue and not a suspension part.
  17. So, the VC is the Viscous Coupling? That's basically the center diff? I did a little searching, but didn't come up with much. Anyone have a link to a walk through or any info on the 5th gen? Is it a failure of the unit or overheated fluid that needs to be changed?
  18. Finally back from vacation and got to take the car for a first drive on the twisties. It was one of the first warmer days around here at about 80 degrees. I went for about a 30/40 minute drive and stopped for some food. When I backed up slowly with the wheel turned I was getting some slipping and a clunk in the front, I believe. It did the same while going forward slow and turning the wheel. Kinda seemed like one wheel wanted to slip, like the limited sip wasn't working...? I guess either that or a CV joint. I will be putting it on the rack this week and checking the diffs and the condition of the fluid in them. I will also be putting on my rear brakes and new PS valve cover gasket this week as well.
  19. Cool, I have family in Downers Grove. I will have to line up one of the Subaru meets with some family time and knock a couple things off the list at once.
  20. Hey Humble, are there any other meets coming up this summer by you? I would run down for one if I'm free. What side of the city are you on? I forgot if you told me already.
  21. That's brutal! We only got 4 or so inches, but it's still snowing today. This sucks! I can't wait to go to Mexico this weekend and with no snow to mess up my travel plans... I hope. Good luck melting that crap off quickly!!
  22. I had to clear stupid snow off my 5th gen today... BOO!! Hey Humble Rumble, where are you going out of the country? We are leaving next Saturday for Mexico City for 9 days. It's supposed to be in the 80's there, which sounds awesome right about now due to all this snow in April.
  23. I took it out to my mom/step dad's to sell it. They live on a busy road and sell cars quick there, so I essentially took it to it's new owner. There is a nice amount of twisty road on the way there to have fun one last time with the ole girl. It really made me want better seats and suspension in the GT. It was unfortunate, but it got the cancer (rust) and that is an almost impossible thing to fight for too long. How difficult was it to put the bugeye seats in the Baja?
  24. Thanks for the tips guys! I just took my 02 WRX wagon to it's next life. A nice little nostalgic drive there. I wish I could take the seats out of the Impreza and put them in the Legacy.
