1. Second major update: the Porsche Panamera wheels are finally on and running after a long wait on correcting a mix-up with the adapters. If you don't recall from my previous posts, these are 4x rear wheels from a 2013 Panamera. 19x10 +36 (+61 with 25mm 5x100->5x130 adapters), tires are 285/30/19 Bridgestone RE980AS. Powder coated Hyper Black 4 by Crown Customs (silver is the final finish color despite being named "Black"), with new Porsche OEM center caps. So happy to be back on 19's, they truly are the best suited size to this body imo.
2. Well behind on updates, but there's been a few since I last posted, so I'll try to keep this brief. 3.6R is up and running again thanks to urging and major assistance from some friends, the new engine is swapped in and running perfectly. Engine is out of a 2019 3.6R with 17k miles. Engine is a straight swap with minor alterations needed: need to swap power steering bracket & pump from old engine (2015+ has electric, PS mounts are still in the block), need to transplant the old engine harness (2015+ uses a different shape plug), and need to make a small length of fuel line (2015+ has one fuel fitting that faces upwards instead of 90-degree for some reason). Other than that, straight swap. So happy to have this thing back. Also, in celebration of the car being back to life and starting a new chapter, I decided to bestow it with a new custom license plate. BOX R SIX -> FUJI HVY. Also last thing on the engine, replaced my much worn and nasty fuse box cover and gave it a much nicer looking carbon one. Came from another model in a recent overseas order I made as extra parts. Really like how it looks.
3. MAY 12, 2021 My Inferno Fabrication high-flow headers finally arrived after a long wait. I ordered these on Black Friday 2020, so roughly 5 months wait time. As to be expected as Inferno is one guy who works alone and does headers as a side bit. As you can see those, quality is top notch. It will be a long time until these actually end up installed on my car. For those curious, the cats Inferno used are Canamex Thunderbolt 6000.
4. MAY 8TH, 2021 Subaru Speed Expo 2021. Held at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL, on south course. Overall a really fun day, car was in decent shape and performed well. Day started out sunny and unfortunately started sprinkling for the afternoon sessions. My girlfriend was able to come along for the event and went on a few ride-alongs and had an awesome time too. The Evergreen barge gag was a hit with the other attendees and the track staff even let me stage a picture where I got "stuck" at the end of the pits. It was hilarious and made for an awesome pic. This event was doubly special to me because my father was able to attend and see me race/drive for the first time ever. Racing is several generations deep in my family; my grandfather I never met raced, my father raced up until I was bourn, and my brother (who is 20 years my senior) raced when he was younger too. My Dad retired from racing when I was only about a year old, so I never got to share it directly with him. Regardless, it was always one of the things I felt able to contact with my Dad most on. He was 76 years old at the date of this event, and it would end up being the last time I ever saw my father. He and my stepmother relocated to Minnesota roughly a week after this event, and that was where they remained until my father's unfortunate passing in December 2022. My father had started having memory problems (and would eventually end up succumbing to dementia), but while he was at the event, he was all smiles and seemed just like his old self again. He was almost 4 decades removed from the racing world at this point, and had soured his relationship with cars due to a shitty late-life employment at CarMax, but he said something at this event that will stick with me until the day I die, and that still brings me to tears typing this now over 2 years later: in response to watching me race and enjoying the day, he said to me "It made me miss it." Love you Dad, miss you.
5. MAY 7TH, 2021 Went to bleed the brakes for track day prep and found one of my bleeders fossilized. Quick replacement with a reman'd Raybestos caliper and some fresh RBF600.
6. MAY 2ND & 3RD, 2021 New set of DBA T2 Slotted rotors and Carbotech pads for all four corners in prep for track day. XP10 pads for the front, XP8 for the rears. Also new tires: Falken Azenis 615K+ in 245/40/18 (on my 18x9 +38 Konig Rennforms). One of th ebest bang for buck 200tw tires out there.
7. Good lord, is that *REALLY* the last time I updated this thread? Nearly two years, utterly ridiculous levels of procrastination. I'm going to try and catch up as much as I can on build updates, and having 20+ months worth of updates is a lot, so I'm going to try and keep the updates as concise as possible and where applicable, as I have a tendency to be overly wordy. In the effort to try and get back on top of my own build thread, going to do my best to include only the most pertinent information. APRIL 27TH, 2021 In preparation for an upcoming track day, dressed the 'barge' up as the then-stuck Evergreen ship the Ever Given, with a huge text "EVERGREEN" across both sides, printed by my buddy Andrew who was also a 5th gen owner at the time. Proceeded to get myself "stuck" in a multitude of places just to rack up the giggles.
8. Any year STI sedan wing will fit really. But don't put an STI wing on a 5th gen. It's been done to death and looks a bit shite. The Evo X wing has become a popular one to do recently and honestly looks better than any STI wing on a 5th gen I've seen.
9. Yes, that's a common, very easy fitment as long as you don't go too large on tire choice. For that size, I'd recommend 235/45/18.
10. Skip them honestly. You'd be better off spending a bit less money on a decent headlight restoration (Meguiar's is good, I've had success with that before), or spending a bit more money on replacement housings from RockAuto. You can get a pair for a low as $260, and they'll be brand new. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/subaru,2014,legacy,3.6l+h6,3305965,body+&+lamp+assembly,headlamp+assembly,10762 With replacing the headlight lens, you'll have to bake your lights open, separate the butyl adhesive, then reapply new butyl which is an extra cost, which is a bit of a pain in the butt process to do. I've baked open my lights once before and it's definitely not a process I'm in a hurry to do again. Plus, Aliexpress is not exactly known for quality, and I promise the ones on eBay are the exact same ones coming from the exact same place.
11. Got a 6MT JDM center console I just listed for sale if any of you GT owners are interested.
12. JDM Center Console for 6MT with flip-top cupholder and Si-Drive knob - $̶3̶0̶0̶ *$250* For manual only. Manual version is much harder to come by than auto version. Excellent condition. Absolutely *zero* wear on shift boot, boot is 10/10 condition, literally looks new. Very slight wear in general, hairline scratches as would be expected. Si-drive in very good condition, some dust around ring. Overall 9.5/10 condition. Available for pick-up near Schaumburg, IL. Can ship at buyer’s expense.
13. Got one of the tires mounted on my Panamera wheels and set next to the car for a visual idea. Too cold out at the moment to properly test fit, but I have the adapter on hand, so soon as it warms up a bit, I'll see how it truly fits.
14. Also yes, I have had that kit on my car for 5+ years or so. I had to replace it once because the front bolt seized from corrosion. Gotta love the salt belt.
15. Make sure you got the correct kit. We use the exact same kit the BRZ uses. Other than that, if you've never had anything in your towhook threads, they're probably just corroded/gummed up and need to be cleaned, or tapped out slightly.
16. That would actually be really useful to me as my own Nameless no longer extend past the edge of the bumper since installed the Gialla lip lol. Suppose it would make more sense to just have my own extended.
17. I always seem to end up sharing my endeavors here before my socials and the Facebook group. Got a new wheel setup that I've been researching and planning for a while, and finally found deals good enough to take the plunge on. I always like to push the limits of what I know works and what I've seen done on this platform, and there's strong chance some of these numbers will raise a few eyebrows here, but you know me: I'm more than prepared to fully (over)explain. When you want to push the limits, it's always smartest to do it with a fair amount of planning and research rather than just jumping in headfirst. This will also give some insight into my research and calculating process for those less familiar with figuring out fitment and such. This is going to be my new street wheel setup for the coming year: Full set of 2013 Porsche Panamera Rear Wheels 19x10, on Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS 285/30/19 Tires. The first thing many of you might be asking is "How tf is all that going to fit?". Well, allow me to explain. I've wanted to run Porsche wheels on my car for a street setup for a while because I just think it'd be fun to have Porsche wheels on an H6, I've been wanting to bump back up to 19s for street use because I really like the look, and I've been wanting to bump to 10" wide for a while as well. The magic here lies in the offset of these wheels: +61. This is very uncommonly high offset, meaning these wheels will land in a very workable total offset when paired with an adapter, as these are 5x130 bolt pattern. A 20mm 5x130->5x100 adapter would land at a total offset of +41 and a 25mm(1 inch) adapter would land at +36, which is just about as perfectly as can be, and gives some flexibility to find what works best. An additional small note on the 2013 Panamera wheels is that as I mentioned, I went with 4x Rear wheels as I wanted 19x10 all around, but the Panamera is staggered from the factory. The fronts are a still pretty decent 19x9 +60, which would work for another 5th gen that likes the look of these wheels but doesn't want to go as aggressive as I am. Onto the reference comparisons. I used two main setups to compare and figure what I was going to do for this setup: my own current setup, and Stanford/ValkyrieHunter's current setup. I am current running 18x9.5 +43 on 255/40 tires, and Stan is running 18x10 +39 (+44 with 5mm spacer), on 265/35 tires. First I'll compare to Stan's setup as his is the more extreme of our two and the one that inspired me to pursue a 10" wide setup in the first place. I used specifically these 3 pictures to reference, along with what I know about his setup from talking with him. This is what 18x10 +39 on 265/35 fits like on a pretty decently lowered 5th gen. He is also running -1.8F/-1.5R for camber. Here is a comparison between my new setup and Stan's setup via Willtheyfit.com, comparing both between a 20mm adapter (+41) and a 25mm adapter (+36). As you can see, 18x10 +39 and 19x10 +41 or +36 are millimeters apart from being essentially the same fitment as each other, obviously going down from 35 to 30 sidewall to account for the inch bigger diameter wheel. The 285/30/19 is going to be a touch more meaty and a touch less stretch, but overall very similar fitment. Additionally, I believe that Stan is actually ever so slightly lower than I am, and I currently run both more camber than him, and a fairly taller tire setup, and I fit just fine with room to spare. Here's a comparison between both of our cars and both of our current existing setups: Onto my own existing setup and what I checked for comparison sake. My setup is 18x9.5 +43 on 255/40, and I am running -2.5F/-2.0R for camber. It's easiest to see on the oblique angle shots, but my setup actually leaves me more than a fair bit of visual room. My fenders are rolled virtually flat and pulled slightly as well. Here is a comparison of my new setup and my existing setup, comparing both between a 20mm adapter (+41) and a 25mm adapter (+36). The new setup will be a shorter tire, and very closely mimic the differences between both mine and Stan's current setups. Obviously, I'd like to go with the most aggressive final fitment as I can, since I think that will look best, but at the end of the day, I'm going to go with what I can make *work* the best rather than just chasing numbers. As such, I've ordered a 20mm 5x130 71.5mm center bore to 5x100 56.1mm center bore adatper, and I'm going to get one tire mounted and test fit with both that adapter and an additional 5mm slip on adapter I have on hand, so I can see if 20mm or 25mm works best. Lastly - the tire choice. 285/30/19 is pretty chunky, and bigger than most would try to fit onto a 5th gen. So why did I go with these instead of 265/30/19 or 275/30/19? One word: price. I got this whole setup for an utterly *stupid* deal. First, the wheels, obviously I got used, and was able to find 4 individual single wheels for sale, for roughly $460 total said and done for all the wheels. Second, the tires. Most of the 265/30 and 275/30 tires I were looking at would run between $800-$1000 for a set of 4. However, specifically the 285/30/18 Potenza RE980AS's were on clearance for an absurdly low price: $124 PER TIRE. Also, in contradiction to what I said early about chasing numbers, I'd be remiss if I said there was a part of me that would be excited to say "yeah I'm on a 285 tire on a 10" wide wheel on my Legacy" lmao. So said and done, the 4 tires delivered to my house for around $550 total. So that's a 19x10 setup on chunky 285/30 tire, for only a hair of $1000 total. Utterly stupid as I said. Even with the roughly $200 I'll be spending on custom adapters, and $300-$400 for powder coating, and however much for mount and balance, I'm still into this setup only around $1600 total or so. Very, very last thing - in an ironic timing, in the Facebook group "OEM Wheels on Other Makes and Models", at virtually the exact same time that I pressed "buy" on my wheel orders on ebay, a VW wagon posted their new setup with the very same wheels in that group, though then went with the factory staggered 9" fronts/10" rears, and a much more stretched tire than I am (215/35 fronts, 225/35 rears). Even still, the timing was silly, and it gave me a really good visual reference for seeing these wheels on something other than the Panamera they came on. tl;dr - I got big new wheels and I'm hella excited about it.
18. I'd say stop at 55 side wall, 60 is likely to rub on the H&R. For reference here's my car two winters ago with 215/55/17 on the stock 17x7.5's, on H&Rs. I wouldn't go bigger than this at this height. https://www.instagram.com/p/CH65K9qJxVy/
19. Weirdly, both of my TYC's came in Depo boxes, but the lenses both have the TYC markings on them so they're at least the same ones. I suspect that they keep a lot of this similar stuff on the same shelf.
20. Absolutely! Happy to help, I've been running those exact TYC's on my own car for at least 4-5 years at this point and they've held up great! Hope you enjoy them, the 2013 lights look really nice with the 2010 grille imo, the c-shape bezel flows nicely into the grille wing.
21. You need to add a resistor to the tail lights. Check the first page of my build thread, I've got details in there on multiple posts.
22. It's just the 2013-14 Legacy headlights. And don't bother with OEM, TYC clones from rockauto are way more cost effective and essentially identical. All headlights across 2010-2014 Legacy and Outback are interchangeable.
23. The 6th gen 6MT was also only available on 2.5i base models, special order. I don't believe the option was even offered anywhere else in the world, including Japan. Very strange choice tbh.
