  1. Yea, Im going to leave the spec b STS and get the Cobb STS stick from Cobb for the spec b. They just announced they are coming back out with them.... http://blogs.cobbtuning.com/ Thats the way I had my Cobb STS on my 5 speed. I had trimmed the metal all out so I had more room to make the throw really short, and then I made the stick short. You can see it in the above picture. The dang stick is so high I feel like Im driving a truck. But then agains I guess I am LOL If you get a chance and can snap a pic of your stick or take a look at mine above and tell me if thats what yours looked like. I still am having a hard time believing that this is a short throw shifter, I feel like I got a stock shifter in a STI STS box.
  2. Mike, I followed your lead and mounted my DCCD switches: http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman/100050/IMG_0841/web.jpg http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman/100050/IMG_0836/web.jpg http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman/100050/IMG_0833/web.jpg
  3. You do not swap anything on the driveshaft, you have to change the yoke on the R180 to the R160 yoke. The part the driveshaft bolts to on the rear diff. This is exactly what Subaru did when they put the R180 in the spec b. The driveshaft has to be shorter because the 6 speed is longer. The R180 and the R160 are the same length
  4. Pictures of my DCCD Control Buttons mounted: http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman/100050/IMG_0841/web.jpg http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman/100050/IMG_0836/web.jpg http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman/100050/IMG_0833/web.jpg
  5. Here is a picture of mine: http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman/100050/Spec%20B%20STD/web.jpg?
  6. That spec b short throw does not feel very short throw to me. I hope mine had the right part in the box. I would hate to feel what the stock spec b shifter was like. If you ever get a chance and have the trim and boot pulled up snap a picture of the stick for me so I can verify if I did in fact get the right shifter from Subaru in the STS box. I have verified the part numbers but it just doesn't seem like it has that short of a throw to me. Cobb just came out with their STS's again so may have to change the stick eventually.
  7. Yea I am waiting on the spec b foam insulation and rubber boot, mine was pretty wore out from the very short short throw I had in the 5 speed. Also need to mount my factory STI DCCD controls. Once I get it all back together, if its unbearable Ill remove the Kartboy stay mount and see what that does first.
  8. By the way as you know I put all this in an Outback XT, I think I am the first. I used a 2006 4EAT Legacy 2.5i Sedan driveshaft and it works fine. The Spec B rear diff mount is a good item to get. It seems that where the R180 sits on the mount it has a bit of a slope to it. The stock mount will work but the R180 diff "fits" in the Spec B mount much better. THANKS to everyone that has helped with all the 6 speed threads, from Hammers, to Groff to NSFW. You guys made this much easier. If anyone is doing this in an Outback XT, I can confirm it bolts right up I now have my dream Subaru, a full STI swapped Outback XT with DCCD and STI seats. If anyone is wondering whether to do the spec b 6 speed vs the STI, Do the STI. I had never driven an STI before. The DCCD and F/R lockers make this car go through corners like glue....
  9. Here is a link to listen to what it sounds like: http://gallery.me.com/gregnauman#100050/IMG_0823&bgcolor=black It has group N motor mounts, group N transmission mount, kartboy shifter bushings, kartboy stay bushing and a STI spec B STS, clutch master FX300 and Subaru Extra S fluid, DCCDpro Also the only thing between me and underneath the car is the rubber shifter boot that plugs the whole. As you can see the internal boot and foam and the leather shift boot are not installed
  10. Any of you all that don't have noise, do you have stock bushings or have the kartboy/hardened bushings in the shifter and shifter stay? Maybe Ill take the stay bushing out because of what matt said and see what it does, plus get the console back together.
  11. Well add me to the club got the whole setup in and its working fine. I dont have the console closed up so I don't have the foam and rubber boot or leather boot installed and shifting through the gears the 6 speed I have whines a lot more than my five speed. I do have group N mounts, and kartboy shifter and stay bushings and without the foam insulator Im sure this is part of it. Anyone else notice more gear noise under load (accelerating) with the 6 speed? Ive heard the gears are more cross cut and this could be the cause as well. Just making sure I don't have anything else going on. 08 Transmission had about 25K on it.
  12. I got my STI spec B STS at subaru parts mall, that was the cheapest I found it. Your prop shaft could be wrong I think it is supposed to be from a 4EAT The shifter bushings were 6 speed specific as the shifter is different somewhat. I got the kartboy set, for the stay and the shifter rod. Cobb now has a set out now as well.
  13. Well transmission is in the car. I still have the rear diff and driveshaft to go on Tuesday but the Transmission, clutch, DCCD, front axels are in and all hooked up. Only had a bit of trouble getting the tranny out past the AVO380 turbo housing. Its really close to the bell housing when installed. Glad we had the infinite positioning of a tranny jack and the car on a lift. We actually ground the bell housing a hair to get it to clear the turbo on the way back in. A couple of parts, mostly bolts I was missing. Needed the bolt that goes through the shifter linkage where it connects to the transmission bracket. Its a rather long bolt and the 5 speed is different so I had to get that. I was at a Subaru dealer working on it though, so they had lots of subaru nuts and bolts in bins. Secondly when bolting the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel. Be aware you will need about 3 more bolts for the 6 speed pressure plate to flywheel. It has 3 (?) more than the 5 speed so we had to find some of those. The spec B STS fit right in the Outback XT and mated up to the transmission like a Glove. So did the cross member. Just bolted up the new group N mount to the transmission and then just lowered it down onto the cross memeber and it went right in. Amazing how easy this really is. Now for the rear diff and to check if the 06 4eat driveshaft works OK with the outback. I have the R180 mount coming tuesday morning so I will be able to install that as well. It seems that I had more room between the transmission and the firewall/tranny tunnel than a friend of mine had on his 6 speed wagon Only thing I can figure is maybe the STI group N mounts lower the motor a bit. I have heard they do.
  14. Mike Thanks for this guide, wired mine up today, have the two wires ready to go down through the shifter hole to the tranny this Saturday. Also the piggyback fuse connector on the cigarette lighter fuse worked like a champ
  15. I was looking under my Outback today and I am really worried about the R180 fitting OK with the S pipe on my Autospeed exhaust. I hope I don't have any fitment issues with that. The exhaust right now is really close to where the drive shaft bolts to the rear diff. With the R180 being longer I hope it doesn't hit.
  16. Well guys I did what Kaos did, I purchased the rear diff mount for my R180. Putting everything in the car this coming saturday Sept 3rd. Wish me luck. I let everyone know how I make out on the drivshaft and the rear mount etc.....
  17. So mine should be OK then as its like 62.5 Yea I looked at that again before you posted this morning and realized yours was only 60 plus what goes into the transmission. I think the one I got will be fine, unless there is something funky with the Outback XT length. Thanks Guys
  18. Yea I knew about his driveshaft, I just chose to go the 2.5i route and hope its long enough. I just can't figure out how the one I bought is going to be long enough. Someone posted that it needs to be like 63.5-63.88 or something and the 2.5i shaft I got was around 62-63 which seems too short. I guess I will find out soon enough. Although in your link you posted above it says that the front part was 24.12 and the rear part was 36.12 so that is only 60" so maybe it will be fine.
  19. NSFW and Kaos, which drive shaft did you guys get. I still don't have a definite answer on the length of the driveshaft. I did get a 2006 2.5i auto drive shaft but it seems that it will be short according to the measurements that have been posted. I wish someone could take a measurement for me especially the spec B driveshaft.
  20. Just to clarify, it wouldn't be the crossmember for the tranny, it would be the crossmemeber/cradle/mount for the R180 for those that swapped out the R160 and went the R180 route, Like in the picture below NSFW posted. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z151/Legacy_NSFW/6MT/DiffInstalled.jpg
  21. So you are saying if putting a R180 into out legacy or outbacks you have to have the R180 mount? This is the first I have heard of this. Most say the R160 mount works fine if I remember correctly Please advise, as I will be swapping mine in a couple of weeks.
  22. My motor was tore down by cobb this week and the misfire was a burnt valve in cylinder 4 This is becoming another real problem on the side fed 05-06 legacy and foresters at or above 100k. Good read on possible reasons....... http://allwheeldriveauto.com/seattle-area-subaru-burnt-exhaust-valve/
