  1. Well, we can always just tell the bickerers to search the manual for an answer, and that they're sure to find it between sections 1-34 and 9-148.
  2. http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5383741&postcount=3310 http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5418976&postcount=64 Looks like the "Nameless Exhaust" fits well.
  3. I don't use the lock on the valve. The spring to the closed position is pretty strong. Further, the area is well protected on the Legacy with the plate under the engine. It would be hard to imagine anything like a rock or anything else jarring that lever loose. The "lock" I know about it just a plastic clamp and came with the valve. So, if you feel you need the extra insurance, just go ahead and use it. I think some guys use a spring clip. Again, I think it unnecessary.
  4. Odometer: 20,448 kms (15,200 miles) Distance driven: 8935 kms (5580 miles) Quarts added: 0. Estimated usage: 1/4 of a litre/quart Driving style: easy Full engine operating temp (almost always): Lifetime mpg or L/100 km: 7.7 l/100 kms (30.7 us mpg) calculated. Love changing oil on this baby. With the filter on top and fumoto valve on the bottom, not a drop spilled on my hands, or the floor.
  5. My oil stays honey color for the first several thousand miles of each change. I'm on the third change at about 12,000 miles, due in a month or so for the next.
  6. I think that I'd stay within warranty range if I was to try anything. I'd maybe try half 0W20 and half synth 5W30 a couple thousand miles before the oil change is due, as 5W30 is also "allowed" in the engine as per specs.
  7. ^^^Some guys will be horrified that you leave a teaspoon of oil behind, and will modify Fumoto valves to ensure such a catastrophe does not occur on their watch. I'm not as worried. My Chev 6.5 diesel leaves about 20% of the oil behind every time in the oil cooler. Some such trucks have logged 500,000 to over a million miles on the engine. The main thing is that there is enough lubricity and not too many particulates left behind. It's not that remaining oil somehow leaves a virus behind that multiplies!
  8. From another thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=5276180
  9. my bad. Speed reading changed the fruit into nut. The same statement, however, applies. The fruits are not on trees on the Canadian prairies here either.
  10. Fruit tree with nuts? Seriously? The only nuts around here are not in trees.
  11. Some self-driving electric Thingy with 300 HP that goes 600 miles between charges and costs under $40K. Year: 2025
  12. Oil consumption and reliability may not be related, true. Watch out for the Cat converter though! In my view, oil consumption is a sign of failure and won't typically be fixable under warranty coverage. If it gets excessive, it's annoying and can easily cost an extra $100 a year (eg. 1 quart per 1200 miles). BTW - according to Consumer Reports, 98% of car owners do not have to add oil between changes. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2015/06/excessive-oil-consumption/index.htm (Looks like some BMWs and Audis should include an oil bottle holder instead of a coffee cup holder)
  13. So we've got two reports of increased consumption after 15,000 to 20,000 miles. Still, if it stays within a quart between changes, no big deal. It's that one quart per 1200 miles that Subaru reports as "normal" that would cramp my loyalty quotient considerably.
  14. Ever notice that you're hypersensitive to problems that you yourself struggle with?
  15. Second oil change, first with a Fumoto valve - I'm sold on those little deals. Didn't spill a drop. not one. No oil on hands, not a bit. Nice. Anyway - oil consumption is virtually nil so far. Odometer: 11500 kms (7187 miles) miles driven between: 4,375 Quarts added between changes: 0 driving style: easy Full engine operating temp: usually Lifetime mpg or L/100 km: 31.5 mpg avg (mostly highway) For the record: Wix Filter, Castrol Synthetic 0W20
  16. Maybe set a rule that if a challenge gets four "votes" that it is largely undo-able, you lose a point and have to do a selfy with your car and a wash bucket over your head.
  17. You lose some functionality with the PIONEER: Installation Details Installation Details for your 2015 Subaru Legacy Sedan without Harman Kardon audio system; with 4 speakers When you replace the factory radio, the factory hands-free cell phone interface (if so equipped) won't work anymore. When you replace the factory radio, you'll lose the factory AUX input connection. When you replace the factory radio, you'll lose the factory USB input connection. When you replace the factory radio, you'll lose your factory satellite radio capability.
  18. You may be waiting awhile for Subaru to own up. The flaw likely needs some major publicity around accidents or something before they'll redesign and replace something that costs them as much as windshields. Besides, if their official line is "It's not our problem," insurance companies will swallow a bunch of the costs. If they quietly redesign the replacement windshield (or modify the installation process?), the problem will eventually go away for them.
  19. It's a good thing you're ready to stay with it. The more you do stuff on your own, the more you learn about your car. Once you get the hang of it, it's such a short easy job, you'll laugh at your first attempt. Keep changing!
  20. Dimming rear view mirror is independent of eyesight. Side mirror dimming (if equipped) is dependent on rear mirror dimming capability.
  21. An outback survey shows about 10% of vehicles are consuming 1/2 quart or more between changes. http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/138-gen-5-2015-present/221146-oil-consumption-survey-2015-a-2.html
  22. ^^^ For a little light reading: http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t54414_ds603934 Out of curiousity is the Forester CVT or manual? The Forester engine has 5 hp less than the Legacy/Outback. Not sure how big the differences are...
  23. My canaries are going to poop all over the inside, and then be a pain to get back in the cage. I'm out.
