  1. Hey guys I have some solutions for you folks that are having some troubles with this. I made a couple of videos of how I'm doing mine that you might want to check out. They should solve your Timur ROM problems as well as save you a lot of $$$ having to buy the JDM bezel. I originally had started with the Timur's ROM route and was going to buy a JDM bezel but I rethought the whole process and found my own combination of software and made my own bezel. Here's the finished product.

The first video covers the software side of things using a combination of Cyanogenmod 13.0 and ElementalX kernel, both of which are free and far more customizable than Timur's ROM.

The second video shows how to start with an OEM bezel and turn it into a Nexus 7 holder.

I'm still waiting to install it into my car and will report back when it's warm enough to do so.

The picture below is the final product of my modified OEM bezel.

I would mark up the final places and use either body filler or fiber glass to conform it. After just throw the paint on it make it look perfect. What you did is really good compared to my dim-wit attempt at hacking up the OEM one.

  2. My JDM extensions fit fine inside the dash no problem, but they're not nearly long enough to match the extensions that came out of my stock bezel. I think they're a fine match for the bezel that comes in the non-nav cars, though.

See picture here. In my hand is the USDM vent extension from the cubby bezel, on the bed is my stock nav bezel + extensions.

In other news, my initial method of mounting the tablet (double-stick super-strength 3M molding tape--the grey stuff with red backing--and copious amounts of hot glue) did not work. As soon as I turned the heating on yesterday, the top-half of the tablet detached from the bezel. I'm not sure what I thought would happen when I knew that the hot air from the ducts wouldn't be entirely directed past the tablet into the vents

I gorilla glued L brackets to the back of the tablet and screwed them in with self tapping screws into the plastic vents. If you want to use hot glue, you have to get the high temp hot glue. I tried all the 3m tape and none work .

  3. The USDM bezel has a much narrower opening than the JDM one. The vents are noticeably wider on the USDM vents, which makes the width of the space between the vents too small for a 2012 N7 to fit in there (I'm not sure about the 2013, but I imagine as well since I don't think it's significantly shorter). If you want to fit a N7 in between the USDM vents, you need to cut the vents. See my post above to see what's required to fit a N7 in the USDM cubby bezel.

Also, worth mentioning, the vent extensions are completely different between the USDM cubby bezel, the USDM nav bezel (the one that came stock in my spec.B), and the double-DIN JDM nav bezel. Naturally the JDM ones are narrower, hence they're different in that sense. The vent extensions for the USDM nav bezel are MUCH longer, almost double the length. Which means that currently in my car, the ducts running to the center console don't actually extend all the way to the vent openings in the bezel. They just blow towards it, and I imagine a good chunk of that air is getting lost through the dashboard. But it doesn't bother me that much. Perhaps later I'll build some ghetto duct extensions to extend the JDM vents to the ducts in my dashboard.

Really, my jdm dash kit came with vent extensions that fit fine with some lovin.

  4. When last did you change your transmission fluid and the kms on it?

ATF was drained 5k miles ago when I installed the modified Valve body . Unfortunately it has 230k miles on transmission. Its always been tough , even when i bought the car.

  5. I have been getting a lot of progress on this project in the last week. Caved and bought that unicorn (thanks, battel :)) and got it installed in the dash, along with a Behringer DAC in the console, a USB card reader, remote power button, and cable to a Tactrix OP. I'm still working out all of the software setups.

I'm getting really fed up with Timur's ROM. I think I'm going to try switching to Autodroid, since it seems like it's more customizable (to my liking). The only thing I really care about in Timur's ROM is the OTG + charging, which the Kangaroo kernel does as well. I don't like that it's not possible (at least not easily? I haven't found a way) to delay the sleep sequence in FI mode. It also seems a bit unstable/buggy, etc. Also, the whole taking down the 2012 version entirely and making his 2013 ROM pay-only, especially at such a high price...) leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I think I have most of the software stuff worked out, though. I do need to buy some anti-glare screen protectors though, the tablet is near useless in the daytime. Also, it turns out I can't wear my sunglasses and see anything on the LCD, since the polarization orientation of my sunglasses is opposite the orientation of the LCD's polarizers :spin:

It turns out the GPS on my newest N7 (I broke the first one's USB interface, apparently...) is completely dead. Instead of buying another N7, I decided to just use my phone as a GPS receiver, and send the data to the N7 though Bluetooth. Using Tasker and AutoInput to set up my phone's WiFi hotspot and Bluetooth GPS settings (can't just use tasker with my phone since it's unrootable... running a Blackberry Priv here). I'm using GoneMad music player, though I'm still working out kinks in a consistent mount of my SD card. I've been using Stickmount, but it always gives me grief with a persistent mount, since it auto-unmounts it at power loss. I just today figured out how to correctly mount the thing manually through terminal (I hate Android OS... wish it were a more standard Linux distro), so I think that problem has been solved. Timur's ROM didn't auto-mount my SD card at all, I think it's just too large (64GB).

Its wayyyyy too buggy. Sometimes tablet dosnt turn on when it gets power. Its frustrating.

  6. I already have the Hexapods Valve Body and the CD bearing upgrades. But I have 170K on the trans and would like more grip on the low end since autocross will be my primary focus. Clutch packs and different torque converter maybe the answer. That maybe IPT but am looking for options on builders since I live in Indianapolis.

Honestly the best way would be the Hexmod VB and the IPT rebuild. Theres not many who rebuild. You can always order the stuff from them and have someone else build it.

  7. ^ @ "Unicorn alert".

On another note, Timur never accepted me on his private Reddit forum :(. So I can't ask folks questions about the Nexus install with his rom... Annoying.

As for my issue with resuming music after deep sleep, I am currently using vlc. After deep sleep, it resumes and play the track for an additional 30s and then plays automatically the next track. At least, it does not crash or wait to rescan the whole 100GB of music.. All in all, better than poweramp but not perfect yet..

Hmm, What do you mean exactly. Like i use the Sony walkman app and after going from deep sleep , all i have to do is hit play. Automatically indexes everything each time something new is added but never every time.

Try it out , heres the apk

  8. I've been wondering about two things. 1.) I've noticed a few members use aftermarket transmission coolers. Are these just something you'd use if you track your car? 2.) not really a 5EAT question but my car has a noticeable thunk when you hit the gas quick, guessing it's the differential bushings? I've seen the white line kit and wanted an opinion on it. It seems like a good idea to stiffen it up. The WRX diff moves quite a bit. Wasn't sure if the Leggy was the same way, just how it works stock.

Heat is a transmissions enemy so the cooler is a good way to prolong the life of it. plus allows you to handle a bit more power.

  9. Quick question. I just bought a 2005 Legacy gt from a friend. The car always drove fantastic before and after the Hexmods VB. Don't get me wrong, it did go through the hard shifting period and the relearning time after the VB mod but in time everything smoothed out. The car had been sitting for a month when I bought it and after driving it for a few miles it threw a CEL. Codes 0700,0771 and 1798. I did a reset of the TCM and ECU and all codes cleared. Drove and everything good with some hard shifts at the beginning but after driving for 30 miles it was almost back to normal sans the downshift to 1rst gear. Next time I started it CEL again. Code 0700 and 1798. I did the reset again and everything cleared but the next time I started the car 0700 and 1798 came back again. The car is shifting good with the downshift to first getting smoother as time goes. Is the matter of the annoying CEL coming back. Should I drive it without resetting it to see if the problem solves itself? Has this happened to anyone else? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That code is for a transmission malfunction . Id stop clearing it and flush the transmission fluid right away.

  10. Just did my valve body this Weekend with no issues. Man this thing clamps down hard, I hope that second gear smooth-ens out some. Other than that I'm Impressed.

Are you tuned or no? Itll take time to relearn shifts but i noticed after getting tuned with a larger turbo, the shifts got smoother.

  11. Then there must be a way to tell a player to lock the 'database' it built from the previous scan or something. I am waiting for timur to accept me on his reddit forum page . I'll post here if I find a solution..

See , i wanted to avoid all the hassle , so i bought the 64 gig tablet with data. Anytime i want to update, i sync it to my cloud. But let me know, its always a help.

  12. ^ Bump to this question. :spin:

Also, I did get this item. It did mention in the description stk1160 but when I installed the driver on my xp machine, it showed stk1150.. And when I tried using it with my N7 2013, it did not work :(.

I think almost every player will have to re scan the device. Your putting it into deep sleep mode which basically limits it to core processes turning everything off.
