Yes, you can run 225/45R17 on your stock 17x7 ET+55 with zero issues.
-
Wheel brand/model: Enkei PF01 Wheel height/width: 17x8 Wheel offset: +45mm Tire size: 235/55-17 Camber F/R: -1.5-ish / minimal Lowered?: No, spec.B springs on Bilstein HD struts. Modified Fenders?: Stock Miscellaneous Suspension: Seems to ride lower than other stock Legacys, suffers from saggy butt, camber bolts up front. With more rear camber, I think this setup would work. As it is, rears will rub with anything more than 10% throttle. Fronts do not rub at all. Other notes: I think 225/55-17s would work with minimal rubbing, as well as 235/45-17s.

Best Catback for 05-09 LGT?
JF1GG29 replied to LGT_Kyle's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
I'm reasonably happy with the Borla on my otherwise stock exhaust, but I do find it to be on the loud side. (I'm an old man.) -

FAQ: Offsets, Sizes for Rims and Tires on the GT! Xenonk Version! - Vol 2

Btw I nearly shoehorned (worn!) 235/55R17 on a 17x8 +45 wheel into my stock specB today. If they were 225s, I think they would've run without rubbing fronts or rears. -

JF1GG29 replied to SBT's topic in Wheels/Tires
I'm currently running 215/55-17 winter tires on a 17x7 +50 wheel on stock suspension. I've run the same tires on a 17x8 +40 wheel on stock suspension. I'm going to see if I can run 225/50-18 on a 18x7 +55 wheel sometime this summer. The 225/50-18 is very close in diameter to something like a 215/60-17, if you can deal with Yokohama Geolandars. -
Interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

Not sure I understand your question. But if you have stock brakes, you will most likely have to run 17" wheels with a 5x100 bolt pattern. Your stock offset is +55mm. I'm pretty sure I've run +40mm 17x8 without rubbing. -
Had spec.B Bilsteins with spec.B springs and I thought that was a really comfortable, well-tuned ride. I went to Bilstein HDs w/ new spec.B springs afterwards. The ride is firmer, to the point where bad city streets really feel like punishment. Turning on the track and on smooth back roads is a joy, though. On the track, I actually wished for a higher spring rate. The struts and shocks are a little more livable in warm weather, I think.

FS (MA/RI): Enkei PF01's 17x8 and Tires
JF1GG29 replied to Underdog's topic in Member Classifieds :: Wheels and Tires
Will these tires fit on stock suspension without rubbing? -
I want to slap some 225/50/18s on 06-07 spec.B wheels (18x7 +55) for comfort and cost reasons. This is almost a full 26" in diameter. Does anyone know if this is going to work with a stock-ish suspension setup? (Bilstein HD w/ spec.B springs and also Monroe Quick Struts). Also, considering Conti PureContact LS to do the job. Has anyone tried them? EDIT: Actually, nevermind about the tire sizes, I just realized I am using 215/55/17 for winter tires and that's almost 26.5" in diameter. But if anyone likes the PureContact LSs, I'd be glad to hear your opinion!

LGT Owners, what car will you drive next?
JF1GG29 replied to EvilCamaroSS's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
OB XT is suddenly in the running. I'd love it if they made a Legacy wagon Touring XT, though. And so long as we are dreaming, throw in the spec.B 6MT. -
I used the Aisin kit and was happy with it -- everything as as expected. It cost a little more than the Gates kit, but it's the kind of job that I really didn't want to go back to fix. As far as your overheating is concerned, it seemed like you were idling the car for 15 minutes? Does the radiator fan come on? I've been running a Mishimoto rad the last 50k miles and have been happy with it.

So my exhaust rusted out over the weekend and I need to have it fixed. I'm thinking now is a good time to do downpipe and exhaust. Priorities from most important to least: noise (needs to be relatively quiet), emissions (want to keep all cats, if possible), performance, price (but nothing crazy). What kind of options do I have? Years ago, I brought a catted downpipe that I never installed, so I'd like to use that. I was thinking about a Borla catback system -- does that mate directly with the downpipe? What happens to the cat after the DP? Does it just get chucked? Are there any quiet turboback systems on the market now?

What vehicle do you want next?
JF1GG29 replied to SubieN8's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
This is going to be more a road trip / family hauler situation than anything else. I'd probably keep my spec.B for trackdays and general hoonin'. I'd surely hope the CVT can handle that. -

2020 Outback XT is in the running. I'm not sure about that CVT, but 260hp on 87 octane sounds decent to me. And honestly, the Touring trim is NICE on the inside. Pretty comparable to a lot of 'luxury' cars out there. -
I didn't think that they updated the part. Are they the same part otherwise?

Gigs 2006 Legacy GT Limited Wagon and STi Wagon
JF1GG29 replied to Gigs's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
I come from the rallyx side of things, so I can appreciate suspension travel, but it's looking pretty perfect right about now. Can it be resolved by using camber settings for the track, maybe more than -3 degrees? -

Ugh. That stance, bodywork, and drivetrain setup. And to top it all off, that plate! Warms a bugeye enthusiast's heart. -
Mine may be more related to the hot/cold air mix. Changing modes does not affect the heavy tapping at all, but does impact the bubbling/gurgling sound from the other actuator. ... the sublime pleasure of keeping a 10yo car on the road.
-
Well, it's my turn. I'm definitely getting the gurgling noise from the top actuator besides the glovebox. I've already ordered this part (72131AG24A, ~$60 online) and will replace in the week or two to come. However, I'm also getting some very heavy taps/knocks that I've traced down to the driver's side footwell against the center console. The tapping is quite heavy; I can feel it in the pedals, in the steering column and on the dash. I will investigate this a little more before I order any parts, but I think it is: (72131AG27A, ~$70 online). It seems like it might be the air mixing actuator for cars with dual-zone climate control?
