  1. Found this little gem over @ NASIOC. Skip ahead to 7:15 and enjoy!

Mighty Car Mods building a sleeper "11 second gramps" 95 GX Liberty/Legacy wagon using a 2011 3.6L EZ36D from a FHI factory QA control Tribeca. And yes... its got BOOST!

BTW - speaking of MAF vs MAP, SD, etc. Here is a good read:

I love these guys, they do stuff that nobody ever tries. This will be a good one to watch.

  2. so, i want to make sure im getting this right. to do this install all you need is the koni front inserts, rear strut assemblies, oem front and rear struts to supply all the oem parts listed and springs? and for all the oem parts required such as bump stop, dust guard, top mount, conical washer and spring seat, can you take these off your stock struts and re use them? Im guessing it wouldn't be ideal but could you use oem springs in this set up?

Pretty much yea, my front top hat bearings started leaking after I installed the konis so I had to buy new ones and install them. You might not have the same problem but if you don't want to risk it just buy new ones like I ended up having to. Stock springs will work fine I used h&r but stock works as well. You should consider getting new top hat nuts and maybe new washers and strut mount nuts too, they are listed as replacement parts by Subaru.

  3. On the same dyno using same methodology every single time. $120 for baseline of 3 pulls. $30 each additional pull. I have been there enough times that they sometimes just say $120 even though I did 5 pulls.

Believe me...it is a real 11whp gain with my 91 map when I go from 91 to 97(blend). The dyno was 97 only because I had enough 91 in the tank when I filled with 101.

Well I'm running 93 in mine, that's the best you can get around here.

  4. Depending on the place, location and type of dyno - usually about $100-150 for up to 3-4 pulls.

If you can go with either a Mustang or a DynoDynamics machine.

Inertia, eddie current AWD flavors. Check out their cooling setup too.

Area must be clean, well ventilated, at least 1-2 industrial fans.

There is no one in my area, closest place is 1hr away

  5. They dont do good tuning. They do great tuning.

Rob tuned a safe map for me at 91 octane. The same map yields 11whp at 97 octane. Read the first page of my build list.

    I am quite pleased.

How did you dyno it? Using an app or actually on a dyno? If it was on a dyno how much does it usually cost to just dyno your car no tune?

  6. Just loaded the first Rom from XRT. It already shifts much smoother in auto, and much better torque in manual, auto feels prefect for a nice ride around town and manual feels great for the track. I was scared at first but wow, it was totally worth it. This was just the initial Rom I can't wait till the next update.

Edward is great, he logged into my computer and pretty much did everything, I just sat and watched.

  7. Tunes for valve control require you to have 5-10 consecutive logs in the same weather, road, engine temp, gear, same start rpm and stop rpm, preferably 3rd gear... Now single log is easy do do :) think about 5-10 consecutive runs on the same exact peace of the road... You start at 25 mph and go to ~105 or so... On the track or some place in Montana it is easy :) not in "beautiful" OH :)

I think I know a place about 15mins away. I'll have to go there.

  8. Yes, tune usually extends life of the transmission. It is locked up more then stock, so less friction, less wear. Stock is tuned for comfort, performance tune shifts and locks up faster, therefore in theory less wear. For accurate answer ping some of the transmission rebuilder guys like

could you upload a video of the dash during acceleration? I'm curious of how good it is on our car with the tune.

have you had your car dynoed?

  10. Once 5EAT is tuned... It feels nothing like what it does from the factory... I'm happy with is after tune, look to my 3.6 tune thread. And, mind you, this is the first AT car in my life... I was always manual transmission person for over 20years... Get it nicely tuned, and believe you will be much happier :) it is actually pretty good mechanical unit with shitty soft.

this is interesting to me but I'd like to actually go to a place to have it tuned. if these guys can get it running as well as you say for a reasonable price it might be worth it over the other guys. does a tune on the trans affect life of the trans? is everybody else getting the trans tuned as well as the engine?
