  1. Well, I did some research today. I took apart the radio to gain access to the CD changer lines, soldered leads onto it and powered it up with a 12V power supply. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c161/JazzyMT/pins_soldered.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c161/JazzyMT/Radio_hookup.jpg I hooked it up to the scope and identified the pinouts: 1] Audio + 2] Audio Ground 3] Audio + 4] Mute (3.5V Logic) 5] ? (3.15V, signal?) 6] Digital Comm I/O (3.5V Logic), plenty of activity even with the CD off 7] 25Hz pulse (3.0V, 10ms/30ms) on odd tracks, high/unstable on even tracks and when off? wtf? 8] 3.0V Constant 9] 3.3V Constant 10] 3.5V Constant 11] 5.0V Constant 12] Ground? 13] Ground? 14] 8.6V Constant? Pins 5 & 7 have me baffled at the moment. 5 is unstable at 3.15V, and occasionally "spikes" down to zero somewhat randomly. I was sure 7 was a clock signal until the track changed...then I was confused again. From what I can find on Panasonic/Mitsushita, they use a serial communications protocol, which will help. I ordered a USB to Serial adapter for my laptop so I can program & debug my PLC...when dell replaced my lappy, they gave me one without a serial port. In the mean time, I'll keep poking around the internet for info. Any EE's have any idea what 5 & 7 could be?
  2. 1) I didn't even notice the patch cables are directionally labeled, but yea, it's a bunch of hype. Don't worry about it. 2) Ack! Really? It fits nice and snug on the one I tried, but I only tried one...I'll test the rest of them. Perhaps you just got a bad adapter. Or, do you mean it is so tight it won't go on? Do you have a stereo or TV you can test the leads on the GLI out on to see if that's the cause?
  3. The B9 with DVD option already had an Aux-in. Interesting that they specifically mention it for the B9 and do not on the other vehicles...now I'm beginning to think other models probably will not have one. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  4. Uh, no. No insider information for me. I just read the rumors and anouncements on this forum and you're right, I haven't seen any official press releases mentioning an aux input specifically, but since the XM/Sirius rumor turned out to be true, I assume that one probably is too. It might not be...time will tell.
  5. You're experiencing ground loop noise. You need a GLI. Crutchfield sells them: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-96BC94Qyipn/cgi-bin/prodgroup.asp?g=181150&est=&search=ground+loop ..and I also sell the RCA PAC GLI (with cheaper & faster shipping): http://www.jazzyengineering.com/product_info.php?products_id=29&osCsid=ceea2b6df6ea5b8495fe79f181b50daf You can also probably pick one up at Walmart or Radio Shack.
  6. I would expect the cost to be $150-$250 when done...probably closer to the $250 than the $150, but that's just a guess. I understand that there are several people that the cost would not be justified (like me) over the CD version, but I don't see any way to get the cost much lower than that. As far as the repeat, yea, it resets every time you turn your car off. Since I dont' listen to other CD's (at least, not nearly as often as XM) and I got tired of it changing when I didn't want it to, I just ejected all but the silent CD. Then it repeats indefinitely.
  7. A poll is unnecessary. This reminder works. I forget that some people may want to "upgrade." I'll keep at it then.
  8. This weekend I made new instructions for the WRX/Impreza/Outback Sport and changed the Legacy/Outback instructions to reflect that they are specific to those vehicles. Legacy/Outback Instructions http://www.jazzyengineering.com/Installation_Manual_1-2.pdf WRX/Impreza/Outback Sport Instructions http://www.jazzyengineering.com/Installation_Manual_2-0.pdf "Sales" have been pretty slow the last 2-3 weeks. With the '07 models coming out with aux-ins built in and current interest waining, I'm not sure if the no-CD version is worth developing anymore. I'm not ruling it out yet, but I'm definitely reconsidering. If I do drop work on that, I'm probably going to focus on an HVAC controls replacement instead.
  9. Yes, it should click. The plug should go all the way into the jack so that the seat of the plug is flush with the jack...you shouldn't be able to see any of the plug itself when it's fully inserted. The jack is very sturdy, but if you happen to break it while trying to seat the plug fully I'll send you a new one, so don't worry about being firm I think this is likely the source of your problems now (not being fully inserted).
  10. Mkay, let me see if I understand this correctly. Your current setup looks like this: <SIRIUS (RCA)> - <(RCA) Y-CABLE (3.5mm)> - <(3.5mm) Aux-in Board> Right? So, if you plug only the red RCA of the Y-cable into your Sirius unit, do you get sound out of all your speakers? If so, either your Y-cable isn't fully plugged into the aux-in board (likely), or it's a mono cable (possible), or it's a defective cable (unlikely). If that doesn't accurately describe your situation, correct me / explain some more and I'll offer a different hypothesis.
  11. I'm not sure why it's freakin out, but you don't need a backup. It's fairly easy to make your own silent cd. I posted a walkthru here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=379369&postcount=381
  12. I've also reconsidered the price for the RCA GLI. I know it's not the ideal setup since it's not 3.5mm, so I lowered it to $15. Still free shipping over $75...for now Pro-kit price is now $80 shipped.
  13. Hrm...I just realized I somehow forgot to mention this, but orders over $75 on my website also get free shipping. So, you save $5.
  14. No, you don't need to connect them to anything. PAC provides them because old studio audio equipment needed a reference ground or it would freak out. You can just tape them up or cut them off.
  15. You had me really confused for a second there Yea, my dogs love eating those when I'm not looking too. They're a bit bland for my taste. And thanks for being the site guinie pig...glad you got what you ordered
  16. Um, just buy a standard kit and put in the order notes that you want the pro kits parts w/o the board (same price). If anyone really doesn't want to use the website that I worked so hard to create, but wants a custom order, just PM me what you want with your email address and I'll send you a paypal invoice. FWIW, the website isn't sitting unprotected on a home server or anything, it's professionally hosted at an ISP with good firewalls, secure databases and that whole bit. I didn't bother with SSL because no monitary information is transmitted thru my site, it's all through paypal's secure servers, but I suppose I could get one if that would ease tensions about using it...
  17. I updated the first post to include the "Pro" kit I was planning to add earlier since people seem reluctant to use the website. I'll probably leave those up indefinitely now, but the website does work if you want a different combination of options than those listed there. Also, if any of you feel like posting reviews of the board on there, go right ahead. I know most everyone's comments have been lost in this 47 page thread now and it wouldn't hurt to have them reposted where someone can find them.
  18. It's getting pretty huge. The stickied "Official (color) legacy photo" threads and the "thread that never ends" in off-topic are bigger, so it's the biggest, on-topic, non-stickied thread on the forum Still, to sticky this thread would be a sort of endorsement for a product by Tide or the site moderators...something that's not only unnecessary, but probably unfair. I don't have a company or anything (yet anyway), but stickying this would be like stickying a vendor's thread...well...I guess there is one or two on the Accessport actually, but I don't consider this hack nearly up to the level of engineering and quality that the Accessport brings to the Subaru community. To compare it with a more related product, I think the same goes with JL's cleansweep...and stickying this and not that thread would be weird at best. That's my opinion anyway. Besides, I think the 700 posts and 35,000 views by members is endorsement enough It's managed to stay in the first page pretty consistently for the last 4 months or so with your help anyway. Thanks for the support and continuing good reviews everyone. As a minor update, I finally purchased a bench radio and it will be in my hands soon. I've also talked my way into a transfer inside my company and will be getting formal training on electronics and PLC's in the future which might change the course of things to come.
  19. Uh...I may have my RCA male/female terms mismatched, but that's not quite-> the GLI's corded leads, what I think are male plugs, are the input, and the other side (output) are female jacks, so you need an adapter: Audio device -> (optional) 6' mini-stereo extension cable -> mini-stereo to RCA adapter plug -> GLI -> 6' RCA to mini-stereo cable -> jazzy board The extension cable is optional because if you're using something that locates your line out jack in the cubby or out of the way (like this), you can plug the mini-stereo to RCA adapter plug directly into that, but if you want a smaller cleaner cable to route somewhere around your dash, the extension cable will allow you to hide the adapter plug inside the dash (or under the console).
  20. Well, really, I've only sold thru this site up until now, so everyone has been "on this site." Tide has been generous enough to allow me to make a bit of a base of operations of this thread. (Speaking of which, I'm gunna donate to that dude again right now for making and hosting such a great site.) I've also noticed that many people who have bought a board posted first on this thread, so there's no telling how many of them were simply drawn here by google. If you google "aux in subaru", a link to this thread comes up as #1, so I'm sure that helps. If I can get permission to post on Nasioc, that will surely change, although they aren't suck with their stereo like we are and they have a lot of catching up to do. There's about 275 successful installs so far, and except for the one guy that tried it on his WRX, they've all been on Legacys and Outbacks. Thanks to everyone else for making this project a success! I can assure you, I enjoy using this little device as much as everyone else and am grateful for centerpunch's initial research on this idea. I certainly never expected to build so many of them but, I'm already about due to order another batch of IC's.
  21. Well, the site is up and running. I fixed as many quirks and bugs as I could find, but don't be suprised if you find a broken link. It is fully functional for ordering (yup, I even tested it) and the GLI's are supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'm going to allow purchases of backordered products for now so that you can put in complete orders even though I don't currently have GLI's in hand. Obviously it needs some more "polishing" and filling out the details. I need to bring a lot of info from this thread over and integrate it into the site eventually, but it will get the job done for now. I'm also going to leave up the links in the first post of this thread in case Murphy attacks, but here it is: http://www.jazzyengineering.com Feedback and requests/updates/suggestions are also welcome, but rather than clutter up this thread with that, please PM or email me...or you can use the contact form on the website. Thanks
  22. It's from a 2005 WRX STI, but I think it's the same radio in limited Outback Sport's and Imprezas (05/06). I don't know if it's been around longer than that.
  23. Oh that! Oh yea, I just ripped that off. The resulting gap is a great place to route the audio cable too.
  24. I wouldn't worry about the black tape, you can probably pull it off. Just make sure you don't pull anything else off in the process (like, if it's holding onto a delicate ribbon cable). I don't know if anyone else has run into tape holding this on though...I did not.
  25. Good call. Like I said, it's still under construction As far as more products...maybe... hehe... This is still kind of a test effort. I'm not sure how deep in I want to get before I can determine if I'm headed in the right direction. I think to go any further, I'm going to need to actually start a company, get a license, etc... and then I can become a distributor for some of these places instead of buying them retail and reselling them. Taxes, fees, blah...that does not sound like much fun, but I suppose it might just be a path to something bigger and better, so we'll see. For now, I'm still trying not to get in too deep.
