  1. Yeah those spring clamps are helpful! I didn't use any.. Maybe I just got lucky.
  2. I don't get why you're having such a rough time.. I lined everything up to the marks, hung the belt on the crank with the line on its mark, hung the passenger side, then the driver's side exhaust cam then the driver's side intake cam. The lines on the belt matched the lines on the pulleys as close as could be expected. I've since driven it 3,000 miles and it runs same as it ever did. Get the marks in position, then hang the belt matching the lines on the belt with your reference marks. Like I said... crank pulley, passenger side intake, then exhaust, then driver's side exhaust then intake. You may have to rotate the crank pulley just a fuzz one way or the other to get the belt onto one pulley or another without damaging it. As long as you can wiggle everything into position with the reference marks and lines on the belt matching up while the belt is on, you should be fine. If you're really that worried about it, take photos of your work and post them up for review.
  3. If all you're off is that half tooth, you might be OK. The arrows were pointing to the right when you hung the belt off the crank pulley, correct? You mean you didn't make sure to line up the belt marks with the hash marks on the cam pulleys and the crank pulley? I'm confused. The kit comes with instructions for a reason...
  4. What belt did you use? I used a gates belt and all of my [crank and cam] marks lined up correctly after 4 full crank rotations. If you're off by less than a tooth there's not much you can do... if you're off by a full tooth, I'd suggest pulling it apart and lining it up again. A tooth off is a tooth off. If the teeth on the belt are wrong, you got a dud belt or something... the marks should all be within a mm or less after multiple revolutions. I wish we could see these marks... post photos?
  5. The marks on the belt will not be lined up after you spin it... the marks on the crank and cams are what's important. -if the crank and cam marks are off- You really have to be super, super careful when you line everything up and double, triple and quadruple check everything and use an inspection mirror on the lower cams just to be sure that you're sure. Once you have everything dead on, install the lower pulley on the passenger side and yank the tensioner pin. Let it sit a minute or so till the tensioner has taken all the slack up, then turn it 2 revolutions or so. if you're questioning your work, keep turning it one full revolution at a time till the crank mark lines up and the cam sprockets line up, keeping in mind that the belt marks will no longer match up. Again, the important thing is that the cam and crank marks all still line up... might take a few turns, since the cams spin at half the speed of the crank.
  6. I like the idea of multiple, largely unbiased third party opinions. Can't get that at some head shrinker's. I think I've worked out a resolution for the issues with my mom... My sister, well, I'm going to let her figure out what she's doing all by herself. In the meantime, we're just going to buy my daughter a new drum. I'm not waiting for somebody to do the right thing, because that almost never happens in this family.
  7. I still have some 12-year Redbreast Irish Whiskey left over from hunting camp. I think I have a plan for this weekend. X-P Ah crud, that alco-fueled naptime will have to wait till after I figure out whether I'm going to Ligonier for more parts again.... The BFAM's '05 5EAT LGT needs axles and other crap. bfam = brother from another mother... been friends for over 21 years. OK, back to parenting... so my dad had an affair and is divorcing my stepmom after 29 years.. Jeez, it just keeps gettting better and better. My son has been lying to me about his stepdad and lying to his mom about my wife.... Hmmmm... what else.... If I drink enough I'll end up knocking up my ex and just add more sauce to this WTFBBQ. OK I'm kidding. I'd never cheat on my wife... just saying... I mean, what's next???? My dad's lady friend winds up pregnant? I guess that would be OK since my dad's only son died 16 years ago... Oh, wait... I forgot to tell you guys I'm literally the milkman's kid...
  8. Family therapy is a foregone conclusion. Thinking about just acting like none of them exist. I have my own shit to worry about and I don't need their drama affecting my kids.
  9. Ah, 5 year olds.... So my 2 year old daughter just wanted a drum for Christmas. That's all she talked about, any time anybody asked her what she wanted, she said she wanted a drum. Well, knowing how kids are with their stuff at that age we got her a Minnie Mouse drum from Walgreens... not a pricey item, but it's what she wanted and all... no sense investing a heap in something she'll eventually destroy. So she's proud of her drum the moment it's unwrapped and she takes it everywhere with us on our journey from house to house Christmas day.. she's just glowing, overjoyed to bang on it with its flimsy little pink plastic drum sticks. We get to my Mom's house and she's just delighted to show off her little Minnie Mouse drum to everybody... My sister shows up with her 5 year old son..... We'll call him... Jason. Well, Jason is EXTREMELY jealous of any other kid who gets attention from his grandma. Anyway, so we got "Jason" the crayola crayon melter thing.. we did not see that it requires the purchase of a light bulb separately... so he didn't get to play with that. He got a Wii game from grandma, but she wouldn't let him play it because that's not what you do at Christmas... go and plant your ass and play video games and ignore everybody else... OK, so this 5 year old has just had enough with not getting his way and my daughter put her drum down to play with a little bear doll my mom got her... well "Jason" has just had enough of this. My daughter has toys that she can play with and he doesn't. What does he do? He puts the drum on the floor and steps on it. Then he stands on it. My idiot pothead younger brother is just sitting there staring at him and not saying anything... so Jason jumps on the drum and manages to completely destroy it, at which point I heard the noise and went to see what was up. I asked him what happened and he said "I stood on it, and it didn't break so I jumped on it." I asked him why. "Because I don't have anything I can play with so I broke her toy." Now at this point, I'm about to explode on this little shit for blatantly destroying his cousin's most treasured gift out of spite but I just kept my calm and took the drum away from him to see if it could be repaired. Well, it couldn't... anyway, so I did manage to at least get it back to the point where it sort of resembled a drum and gave it back to my daughter. What does she do with it? She jumps on it. Apparently she saw the whole thing and now I have a daughter who thinks it's ok to destroy things. My sister vowed to replace the drum with her son's Christmas money, which is fine and justifiable... what's not justifiable is how she calls him "Jeffrey" (which is my name.....) every time he does something bad. So now this kid is going to grow up equating my name with bad behavior and just innately dislike me... in addition to his violent outbursts and total lack of respect for other peoples' belongings. ..and to top it all off, my MOTHER hands the kid $10 for a drum after my sister specifically tells him he's buying his cousin a new drum with HIS Christmas money... and then my sister says she's taking him home and they're not going to great grandma's... and then my mother cons my sister into going anyway, making my sister's words to her son completely meaningless. So now we have a 5 year old who thinks it's ok to break other peoples' stuff because no matter what mom says grandma will fix it anyway and uncle jeff is an asshole. What. The. F*CK????
  10. I've been a very bad influence on my son with my driving... he's 13... do you think he'll forget my bad manners if I stop now? Oh dear, what have I DONE?!?!?
  11. CTS - the only GM vehicle I wouldn't be embarrassed to own.
  12. Depends on how many times it breaks down on me this week. So far, that's been zero. I'm starting to worry that something is wrong.
  13. Gonna sub this thread that I did not know existed. I have a 13yr old son and a 2.5yr old daughter. Being a parent kicks ass. Kicks my ass, I mean.
  14. 4G LGT or nothing. (says the guy who breaks his 4G every other day)
  15. Let us know how that Gates water pump holds up. I know everything else they sell is A+, but it's been common practice to use Gates belt, tensioner and rollers with the Subaru pump and stat. Regardless, only use the Subaru t-stat. Yes, it's $30. Don't cheap out and install crap.
  16. Sooo.... any reason against using a 1/2" ratchet and rapping it with a pipe to get the crank pulley bolt loose? I didn't have the special holder tool and I didn't want to put uber torque against 5th gear trying to get it loose. 3 whacks and it was loose. I did the same thing with my old Impreza and I put 30,000 miles on it after I did the belt on that one and I didn't have any issues.
  17. I'll be posting photos and a video once I get to the lump I gutted from my LGT... Right now I'm in the middle of a timing belt/water pump job on it. I'm looking forward to inspecting all of the broken stuff. Once I've rebuilt it I may sell it or just keep it for when the replacement transmission eats its guts. Depends on how much money I get offered for it. Here's a teaser... It went so bad that the driveshaft yoke was all chewed up..
  18. OK, cool. Ordering a vagcom soon as I make more paypal money from that side job that I do....
  19. See, here's where I get frustrated. I read that the '06.. which is what I have... requires a Tactrix... OR a VagCom... no, it REQUIRES a Tactrix. No, it will work with a VagCom... NO, IT REQUIRES A TACTRIX... NO, IT WILL WORK WITH A VAGCOM... NO, IT REQUIRES A TACTRIX. :banghead: :FML:
  20. evil03mustang West Sunbury, PA 2006 Legacy GT Limited Sedan Obsidian Black Pearl Pittsburgh Region. Hey, anybody able to loan me a cable for logging? -Jeff
  21. Does anybody ever loan out a tactrix cable? Looking to borrow one for logging.
  22. That statement is quite incorrect. The ADR's not only fit but look good. Too bad I had to dip them due to clearcoat peel. http://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1381236_10202267785963039_1525593638_n.jpg Correction - They rub just a little bit when you jump the car.
  23. Too late to get any info out of this thread? I've been trying to figure out if dropping from a 1.25 to a 1.20 in my stock '06 is going to make it go kerblooie. There are 7500 miles on the engine. I only ever use 93oct super, and I live at and operate the car at 900-1200ft elevation. I never see anything more than 13.4PSI in my logs. Will dropping to the 1.2mm pill correct me for altitude without messing anything up to where a tune would be a necessity?
