  1. molded, got it. which is why this thing wont work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-DIN-Car-Radio-Stereo-Faceplate-for-Subaru-Legacy-Outback-2006-2009-/153173386771?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10
  2. I see. however this AX5000 is spec'ed as not having an "aux in." I wonder if I can still do it. I guess overall it doesnt matter as it has bluetooth im guessing one of these "universal aux jacks" looks like this? https://www.amazon.com/APPS2Car-Auxiliary-Expedition-Freestyle-Navigator/dp/B00N9WKTUM as long as the steering wheel buttons work and sub works, im all dandy for the most part
  3. Looking for a compatible headunit that works in all respects (steering wheel controls, aux jack in the armrest, factory sub in the rear etc). Does anyone know if the sony XAV-AX5000 would work? I assume the harness takes care of all the connections necessary but pretty newb to this and plus i have an outback and not a legacy. Looks like most people here are using kenwood or pioneer and not sure i thats for compatibility or just because they are better Also not sure how the temp dials are mounted to the plate but are they swappable since we are lefty drives here?

  5. Just did my plugs on my 2009 outback XT today with a friend. This thread made it seem like a daunting task (but a helpful thread!!!) when in fact it was pretty fun and relatively straight forward to do this. Took us about 2.5hrs as it was our first time doing this so next time, it would be for sure quicker. I'd say if we had this down to muscle memory, it would be tops 1hr for 2 people to do. Did it from under the car and with the right tools, it makes anything easy. Parked the car with each front wheel ontop of a 2x4 piece of wood for just a tad extra working room. Sorry LGT guys, but i sort of love my stock clearance hehe . Did not remove a single thing from the engine other than a #12 bolt on the driver side that held a flat black plastic pipe to the engine so that the pipe could flex a bit for that rear drivers side coil pack (didnt remove the pipe) to come out. Hardest part (more like a bit more time consuming than hard)? Figuring out how to turn the driver side rear coil pack an extra 45 degrees for it to slip down. Other than that, everything else was a breeze. Best tip: Use the grooves on the engine around the coil packs as a guide when removing the coil packs really helps. Sort of sideways L shaped. Removing coil packs is simply pulling them out towards the direction of your tire then rotating 45 degrees while dropping them out and down in the direction of the floor. For my outback XT, spark plug part number was SILFR6A (nkg laser iridium) for reference in case anyone is searching. Any outback owners who are curious, I would love to help, just PM me as it's easy to miss replies in-thread.
  6. Hey all, has anyone done this from under the car? Not sure what people mean by still having to access this stuff from the top of the car even when lifted as some seem to suggest that when going in at it from the bottom it was less of a fuss. Seems like everything could all come out from the bottom upon first (and quick) glance? but of course i have a OBXT so not a GT so maybe theres a slight difference there
  7. a little crazy looking but im sure its crazy fast =D Is that thing poking out of the bumper your exhaust??
  8. dude that is cool! where do i find such tutorial? im curious how all those gauges get update too?
  9. i just flipped the rubber thing inside out to see more of the solenoid piece that goes in and out. Pressing that in and letting come out is pretty squeaky. I assume this is where the sticking problem is. Another shot with model #, can you find this part separately to buy?: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v626/kaitanium/IMG20150705161436.jpg Also FYI, to grease the gears, dont do this syringe technique. It just all globs into one place and doesnt even touch the shalf. Not sure if this is what Shik did. But when I opened up the gears after doing this, it was not distributed at all. Take it apart to grease it (still not fully convined that greasing will help with the sticking). That hole is a screwdriver hole. Used a flat head to pry it open. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v626/kaitanium/IMG20150705155256.jpg
  10. got mine out yesterday. Pretty easy. You guys sure regreasing the gears will help? My solenoid is the one that squeaks crazy loud when i press it down. Cant really grease or work grease into that solenoid since you cant open it which is lame. Can one get just a brand new solenoid? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v626/kaitanium/IMG20150705161004.jpg
  11. got under the car today and the starter seems totally accessible from under the car. Not as convenient as from the top. Has anyone tried to get it out from under the car? Mines an outback so im not if the raised suspension has anything to do with more clearance for the starter. Tried to remove my intercooler to no avail, that right hose is attached so tight/grippy even after loosing the ring around it fully so im looking for other less evasive alternatives now.
  12. I got a small tub of mobil 1 synth grease. You guys think it will be ok to use? Prefer not to buy more unneeded stuff if possible
  13. i think this is the first time me seeing your car! NICEE. One day Ill see ya in person. Do the control arms make much diff for everyday driving? So nice looking and theres so much that can be done to spruce up the OB suspension! Its really the only thing i dont like about the car.
  14. i think if i had a n/a outback i would be more inclined to lower as there will be no high maintenance turbo to keep happy. whats the ground clearance on you guys' car in the front? i can fit under my wifes 2001 corolla without ramps and do an oil change just fine so maybe lowering a bit on my car wont hurt.
  15. not so much concerned with the ride really, just the convenience of not having to jack the car up for oil changes and not scraping the front bumper when parking vertically hahah. but ill be sure to hit you up if i ever decide to do it! thanks man! whats wrong with the KWs to warrant a change for you?
  16. OB2.5XT pointed your car out to me. saw you in passing a month ago, i think we were going opposite ways on brotherhood or sunset. might have to pick you guys' brains later if i want to drop my car. Even though lowered looks so niiice, i do love my stock ride height.
  17. it still amazes me that everything went sour so fast. the guy was pumping out lights reliably and bam, problems started happening
  18. wut the heck happened here? the moment i decide to come back here to get some lights i see all this junk? how did it all go downhill like this? who to get lights from now?
  19. hey IDRVSLO, i sent a PM but it doesnt seem its registering in my account or yours. for some reason i cant send any PMs from this account. do you have an email? mine is kaitanium at gmail dot com if you can email me. thanks much, looking forward to it
