  1. ^ No thanks needed - just glad to help.
  2. I checked the '05 "Vacation Pix," with hopes that it would list the actual bulb used: it only said "12V 21W." The same description, however, is given to the turn signals, one can assume that it is thus indeed 7440. And yes, the "(Center) High Mount Stop Light" is indeed the 3rd brake light, inside the rear windscreen of a sedan - with or without factory wing, this was OEM standard-equipment (ones with wings thus had a redundant center high brake lamp). This unit is also commonly abbreviated as "CHMSL." I pulled it a while ago, to replace it with brother ArcTec34's awesome LED board, but I honestly don't remember if it was a 7440, as I wasn't paying much attention. Since I have more than a few 7440 bulbs laying around the garage, I can't be sure that it's that one that's pulled, and not another..... ---- Edit, found ArcTec OP..... http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/gauging-interest-led-third-brake-lights-112201.html?t=112201&highlight=7440
  3. ^ Damn, I can't remember. I'll check and post-up later.....
  4. ^ "I'm sorry, officer, did you just say 'meow?'" Arrrrgh! The anticipation is killing me!
  5. That's my feeling, too. With fank_ster's mad skills, if it breaks, I'm sure he'll figure out some way to make it better.
  6. ^ I honestly don't know about mailings from the States to Canada, but I know that the other way around, from Canada into the US, it's occasionally (note I didn't say rare) possible for shipments to be delayed by upwards of one or even two full weeks. With some of my previous hobbies, I've had items that were routed through Canada or originated from Canada delayed in such a manner, due to Customs clearance or brokerage. No rhyme or reason: small pieces, big pieces, high-dollar amount items or low. Don't lose faith, yet!
  7. ^ Nice!!!! They look really good - and unique, too.
  8. ^ Like the man said, they're off your 9005 high-beams, operated at reduced voltage. Since many of us favor the HIR1 upgrade for the 9005 highs, we also tend to simultaneously dump the DRLs, as it is, so-far, an unknown as to what kind of longevity or other potential issues could result from using the HIR1s in such a fashion. However, if you cannot lose the factory DRLs - either out of your personal preference or due to stricter lighting-code enforcement and/or safety inspections in your area, that may be a no-go..... One possible alternative has been explored by some European members on SubaruForester.org who are running an alternative LED DRLs (such as the Hella or Phillips units), fired off of the DRL relay. Since these units are E-code approved (also as long as they are installed in a manner that meets their country's codes for DRLs), they have a legally viable work-around of the issue. My wife's '09 FXT carries the DRL-disable/HIR1-high modification. I still think about investing the money for a set of the Hella LED DRL units, to improve visibility/safety.
  9. Frankly, I'm surprised - or maybe I just don't know about it, since I've been out of that world since 2004 - that no-one in the flashlight hobby has crossed-over and built a custom LED-based headlamp system. Even as of 2003/4, LED-based flashlights were, especially as a "custom" genre or as high-end productions - starting to overtake their then already well-advanced incandescent cousins.
  10. ^ I wasn't replying to you, fishbone - rather, to MikeAldea. Hence the "^" - signifying "directly above." Superhawk - I don't think it's impossible to use the current housing: but the current optics as well as rear-of-lamp elements will have to be severely modified, for sure. So I guess it's how you term the word "housing." If you mean the optics and immediate optics housing, then yes, I agree, that's likely not going to work at all (although until someone tries, who knows?!). But if all that's meant is to cram something behind our current "external" weather/aero over-lens, I'm sure that someone could well make something that'll work just fine. ---- For MikeAldea again: Holy crap! Looks like there's a lot more than I thought/was aware of! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headlamp#LED_light_sources
  11. ^ That's where optics come into play. Lexus and Audi both have had LED headlamps abroad for quite a while, and in the US for at least the last year, if not two. Currently, the issue is more about a lack of sufficient forward heat sufficient to clear the headlamps of even mist/frost - luckily, the stars typically generate quite a bit of heat "backwards," so it can be funneled towards the overlaying weather/aero outer lens, to effect clearing. The system in the Audi R8 utilizes fans to duct the hot air produced in such a manner. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/30/audi-r8-gets-first-full-led-headlamps/ http://www.caranddriver.com/features/09q3/2010_audi_r8_led_headlights-tech_dept http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/article/HONSHI/20070725/136768/
  12. ^ No, don't worry, he's specifically targeting me because I've pointed out, repeatedly, his errors. But then again, I think he's got something against anything and everything that Daniel Stern says, too, so you might have well triggered another outburst. ----- SubieDoobieDoo, once again, I ask you to refrain from the personal insults. Once again, I've reported your post, based on this same, repeated, assault. And like fishbone and others have said, can you present any actual scientific evidence to back up your subjective claims? And furthermore, will you acknowledge that you've made basic errors in your understanding of both automotive technology as well as lighting technology - and in-turn refuse to properly fuel this debate, due to your innate lack of understanding thereof?
  13. subygc8 - I'm sooooo jealous. That sounds amazing. If only my wife would let me do that. I really like your bumper skin "liner" in the cut-outs, too. What did you make those out of?
  14. ^ I thought your write up was way too good to be a complete noob's! ^ +1. It's this kind of stuff that really makes a community a community.
  15. ^ Zip-Ties FTMFW!!!!! ---- ^ Definitely agreed - it's just that some people are somehow afraid of pulling a wheel. To be absolutely honest, I also think that pulling the wheel may take a bit more time in the beginning (and with clean-up), but the whole process will be made much easier and faster. Ah, the "E-Z Pass grade!" That should definitely be just fine! I've never had those passes, but I'd be surprised if they weren't VHB backed, given that they need to be suspended for long durations in direct-sunlight exposed spots. Hey, butt-kissing will get you no-where! You haven't been around long (you just mean here, right?), but your walk-through is done like a pro!
  16. ^ Great write-up! Oooooh....that does look like it's right up my alley. I think I'm gonna go for one, after this initial rush is over.
  17. ^ Let's start this "ripped by another member" thing again. How many times do I have to reiterate the facts about HIDs, as well as my personal stance on them? Why do you keep bending my words? All *anyone* has to do is backtrack over even the last two pages of this thread, and they'll easily see where you have virtually all of your facts confused, as well as the amount of misinformation that you spew. And SubieDoobieDoo, I'm really getting tired of the repeated personal insults, which I've asked you, quite nicely and repeatedly, to stop. The facts of the matter are that you've repeatedly made factual mistakes, of which I've corrected you, starting from page 7 of this thread, alone, but also well before that time (REF: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/daniel-stern-lighting-and-subaru-headlight-options-45991p14.html?t=45991&page=14), with everything from basic automotive knowledge and know-how to specific basic scientific principles that govern lighting applications. Anyone can easily reason, for themselves, who has presented factual and truthful information - and it's not you.
  18. ^ johnAWD's write-up is awesome. It's truly one of the best ways of routing anything and everything beyond the firewall, since that main harness grommet over by the passenger side is so danged hard to fish-tape through. I recommend and link to his writeup nearly every time I'm faced with the question of breaching the forward firewall on the BL/BP.
