  1. I painted the other two wheels today. I'll post a pic of them installed tomorrow.

I replaced a couple of fuses so the power mirrors now work, and the cigar lighter works. I was trying to figure out how to install a boost gauge and I want to tap into the cigar lighter to power the backlighting. Most boost gauges come with an inline filter to the gauge. I was given mine (Prosport mechanical) but it doesn't have the filter so I need to come up with a solution.

I was thinking that I can just get a larger diameter section of vacuum line and stuff it with some sponge material and use a couple of reducing couplers to attach it to the 5/32" hose. Idk.

  2. I'm going to paint it. I have taken an auto body class at a local high school. It's one night a week. That's where I painted my second gen and I think it turned out great for my first time. It was rear ended and bashed in pretty bad. So I replaced the rear hatch with a GT hatch, swapped on a GT hood, some JDM projectors w/halos, newish 99 OB interior, and just put on new 16" WRX wheels and a Whiteline adjustable rear sway.

I'll sign up again in September. But this time I'll have all of the body work done before the class starts that way I can paint it right away. Then for the rest of the quarter I can have access to the lifts, and whatever other equipment I want to use. It's nice because there is a downdraft paint booth and you can bake your car inside it.

  3. Those look great! I need to decide if I am going to repaint my wheels a lighter shade before I paint the flaps. If I stay with the dark color they are now I may stick with black flaps. It seems that if I go with dark wheels I need a few bits of black to tie everything together.

I painted my roof rails today with some leftover wheel paint and clear coat. They sparkle pretty good. I also got a new windshield and threw on some black lug nuts. :) I'll post up a pic when I get the rails on.

  4. The rear sway is super awesome. The wagon handles almost as good as the SS now especially with the 16" WRX wheels I put on. Before I had the stock 14" wheels. The Whiteline is 22m. :)

The H&Rs also drop you about an inch. I am putting some 'saggy butt' spacers on too. I don't know what is better. I got the H&Rs with only 3k on them for $100 shipped so that's why I went with them.

  5. I installed the two coolant lines and filled it back up with coolant and oil. No more oil leaks! The JB weld worked perfectly.

I installed the inhibitor switch wrong so I had to take the downpipe off again to gain access and adjust it. It isn't throwing a CEL anymore, but I might need to adjust it again.

My replacement evap purge solenoid valve was bad (got it of an old leggy) so I replaced it with a new one from the dealership ($113). No more CEL 35. :)

I am finally running full boost. My old cracked air intake was the source of all my misfiring and hesitation issues. Before it would barely take off from a stop, now it zips once it gets up to 10 mph. The turbo is a lot louder and sounds pretty nice. It has a lot more power and gets going really fast really quick. I'm pretty stoked. The SS is finally running like it should. It romps!!! I gave it back to my wife. :( But she missed it the past few days and she is going to love it even more.

I was losing about a quart of coolant a day and 1/4 pint of oil every day. Glad to have stopped that BS.

I installed new OSRAM cool blue headlight bulbs as well.

Here is a pic of all the old bits I replaced.

  6. I replaced a bunch of parts today: turbo inlet and outlet coolant lines after draining the radiator, inhibitor switch, rerouted the vacuum lines to the purge control solenoid valve as well as moving and replacing the solenoid to the top of the intake manifold for easier access, replaced the air intake to the throttle body (old intake was cracked).

I replaced all PVC lines on the F-tube, removed the downpipe and turbo to gain access to things, removed and installed a replacement inhibitor switch on the transmission, re-installed the downpipe and turbo and reconnected everything.

I drained the oil and sanded around the oil plug, cleaned it with acetone, and applied JB weld to the hairline crack around the oil plug in an attempt to stop an annoying oil leak, and purchased a new crush washer and oil plug. I'm letting the JB weld cure overnight before I fill it back up with oil.

It was a long day, but I got a lot done. :)

Tomorrow I will replace the two coolant lines off the water pump, fill it back up with 10w-40, new coolant, reset the ECU, fix a problem with the coaxials and tweeters in the front, and see if she runs good with no CELs.
