Been a minute since I've logged in.  Moved to an area with a Harbour Freight, bought a new jack. Swapped my orig downpipe back to my aftermarket after a smog test several months ago. Finally got time after the move. Flash my tune and away I went. I had forgotten how sluggish the car was with the oem dp and tune. The car really woke up again. 

I've been running centric rotors and hawk hps pads for years.  Little noisey at times,  but overall great and no issues.  

Give me another 20 years and I'll hit the 200k club.

 

My 07 LGT has 108k and my 13 3.6R has 65k.

Luckily simple fix. New endlinks on the rear with new sway bushings, greased all sway bushings.

 

Now gives me more time for a suspension refresh.

Thanks. I was doing searches and couldn't quite narrow down the issues. Good idea to start with end links, I was leaning that direction and should have mentioned.

 

I did get Moog end links for the front about 10k-15k miles ago. Never did the rear. I'll pick up some kartboys or same moogs. If that fixes, great, if not on to the bigger project.

 

Edit: Ordered rear end links and sway bushings.

I would suggest trying to reseat the brakes. That usually fixes this issue unless rotors are warped (rarely happens) or are glazed over due to excessive heat.

 

Whenever you replace pads OR rotors, not both, but EITHER you should do a bed-in process. Here’s the process I have used for years:

45-10 using medium pressure 3-4 times

Drive to cool for a little bit

55-10 using medium pressure 3-4 times

Drive to cool for a little bit

65-5 using hard pressure but not locking them up 3-4 times

Drive for 20 minutes to cool them.

If you must come to a stop in that time do so gently, and just hold the car at the stop with the least amount of pedal pressure that you can (or use your hand brake).

I am considering doing it myself. Only reason I'd have a shop do it is time and wear and tear on my body.

My front and rear are clunky going over bump. 103k miles so I think it's time to refresh the suspension.

 

Looking at the OEM struts I am going with these.

KYB SR4591 - Front Right

KYB SR4592 - Front Left

KYB SR4593 - Rear x 2

 

I'll get new sway and control arm bushing as well.

 

For the control arm I was looking at this set. Any issues or better recommendations?

Edit: This might be a better option than control arm bushings as I am not sure I can get that bushing out. Moog control arms and ball joints for about $100 each.

Edit edit: Doesn't seem like the rear struts complete are on backorder everywhere. That puts a damper on this project.

Not really sure if I want to spend the time doing myself. With the cost you've said for DIY I would assume $2500 for a shop.

 

Edit: Shoot! I see Rockauto has the front KYB struts complete, but not the rear. Anyh other suggestions where I could find that?

 

Edit: I found the part number, just trying to find a place with the rears in stock.

I have 103k on my 07 GT. Rubber is worn from what I haven't had a chance to replace. Looking at redoing the complete suspension with stock parts, nothing fancy.

 

I'm going to ship around for quotes, but wear do you all think is a reasonable amount to spend? $2000? $2500?

My thoughts exactly. I only found 1 other WRX owner that mentioned similar flakes with no resolution. Now if it was the oil with flakes...

 

Time to break in the turbo!

There were very few flakes. Pretty much all shown in the pic. I flushed/ran with distilled water a few times and filtered the contents.

 

Anyway got everything buttoned up, took for a spin. Sounds and feels good.

No weird noises. Everything sounds Subaruy.

 

Yeah, I'll drain and screen too check it out. I'll flush with distilled water too.

I was excited I got my rebuilt vf46 back from JMP about a week ago. Got it all installed and went to burp the system. No weird noises, no smoke, no leaks, I was happy.

 

I noticed aluminum flakes floating up into the funnel from the turbo reservoir. I am thinking maybe the water pump?? I did check with JMP and he confirmed nothing to do with the turbo.

 

The coolant has been replaced at least 5 times over 100k miles. I have never used leak stop, but did use the Subaru conditioner last time, but not this time.

well, if there is no nip, then there cannot be a filter. At least, that's my understanding.

I cannot confirm if an 07 has it or not though. How about the bolt on top of the OCV on the driver side? Does it have a nip there? You could easily check this one at least.

 

I'll double check, don't think it did.

That does not look too bad. How about the one behind the driver side timing belt cover? pain to access but there is a trick 'ala HAMMERDOWN'.

 

Yeah, not bad for 100k miles.

Can someone confirm there is a filter in that spot on an 07? I don't see a nip on the bolt unless I'm looking at the wrong one.

Less additional tear down the better. :lol:

I got 2 gallons from Amazon @ $22 each, $15 each after rebate. Not bad.

I have a turbo from JMP arriving tomorrow. Can't wait to get that installed.

 

I pulled the banjo from turbo oil line, checked the bolt near uppipe as well, no filter. Any other places I should look on an 07? I could find any other nippled bolts in the arcade areas.

I was just talking to someone about sticky dash fix. They bought some to try. I'll see what they say about results.

I need to get my stock turbo with 100k rebuilt soon.

Well throwing my hat into the sticky dash ring on my 07 LGT with ~100k miles. Got the air bag recall done (twice). 2nd time I noticed a white film in one area of the dash. Sat in the garage for a month and noticed whole dash was white. Wiped down with a damp cloth. Went to deal with SMOG (don't get my started on that) and while sitting in the sun a few minutes my wife commented on the sheen and stickiness. :mad:

Awesome news! Ready to get my stocker rebuilt. I emailed you already and was just waiting for this news.
