  1. Apologies if I miss(ed) anyone. Calling anyone who posted interest in the previous meet. 2. Sadly only 3 options listed for all of 2024: Drive Your Car Where Your Heroes Have! MAY 3-5 May 11** May 18-19* May 22* May 24-25 May 31-June 2 June 6-9 June 20-23 July 10-14 July 25-28 Aug 21-25 Sept 11-15 * = No 12pm Drive The Glen ** = No 5pm Drive The Glen BOLD = No Drive The Glen
  3. All the fast cars go round the outside, round the outside, round the outside.
  4. I did not get flagged. If it was a Subaru it would be "normal", lol. I have tried that line before and ended up in the wall more than I want to admit. Was anticipating a clip and went wider fhan I wanted. It was a double pass for the lead, I committed at the crest.
  5. MX-5 Cup Class. Myself (#55) and 5 other gents. 6 cars total. Laguna Seca, 8am, 21deg C (70 F. Not my fastest laps ever, but on full display is what my old race manager described as the "Predator vs Prey" racing mentality. I am far better as Predator. Dont know why my vid did not catch the start. I was box 6, last. Had a great jump and went FULL PREDATOR. Safety rating be damned. I did not bump car #23 in turn 2, I held my line and he refused to go off track. In the chicane I was shooting for the drainage grate in my hood emblem. What racing line? Winning is in the turns. I am not smooth, I brake late and hard. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not so much. 6th to 1st in a 2 lap race. Take that any day. LS_MX5_11-19.mp4
  6. I just re-checked the listing on the house. Now says that the weekly rate for the dates chosen is $2495. We are getting the $1995 previously quoted. I guess if we "bail out" Bill expects to get $500 more for the week. Inflation. I plan to stay the week and maybe "work" from the deck/lake/Jacuzzi a few days. Watkins Glen is short drive away too. While no "Drive the Glen" dates are available during the week there is the 2024 HSR Classic going on at the track: https://www.theglen.com/events/glen-hsr-classic/ Wineries???? https://www.explorewatkinsglen.com/things-to-do/wineries-and-wine/ List of "Yea" on the dates and locale: @m sprank @JJBerk @boxkita @tysparks81 @Enlight @KZJonny
  7. When I drive my F1 Ferrari at Monza in the am, I always refresh with a cool Counterpart brew. Postcard sent with rental agreement. Owner is pro.
  8. Do you have any abs codes now? I had a similar issue with an 05 LGT 5EAT. Almost put the car out to pasture I was so frustrated. Turned out the drivers front wheel bearing needed to be replaced. The bearing was fine. The embedded chip used by the ABS sensor had been damaged during a cv axle replacement. Problems began shortly after the axle was replaced (unbeknownst to me). But the car was un-drivable, all because of a chip you can not see or easily test.
  9. Oh, and the sim rig is insane. If I get my hands on $10k I am going full motion. Wind simulation is next. I just need more time. Racelogic VBOX for your car is $1250+. Just added one to my rig for under $200. Who knew? Now I can record all those data points I am normally just viewing and use them to get faster.
  10. I offer $500 for the car. Rental agreement received TODAY. The important stuff: Dates = June 6 4pm - June 13 2024 10am Home = Serenity on the Bluff (https://www.newyorkrentalbyowner.com/finger-lakes-keuka-lake-keuka-park-house/listing.82) Occupancy = 20 (children under the age of 2 years are not included in the occupancy number) Pets = With permission Smoking = No smoking in the house, smoking permitted on the deck and outside - dispose of properly. Phone - Home has no phone, bring your cell. Home has wifi. Deposit due 2/1/2024 = $997.50 Balance due 5/1/2024 = $1735.30 Total with deposit = $2732.80 Total if deposit is refunded = $2282.80 Breakdown on charges: $1995.00 rental fee and cleaning fee + $200 linen fee (linens for 20) + $87.80 tax (The Man gets his cut) + $450 refundable security deposit. Don't fudge it up and we get the $450 back. Seems reasonable to me. But this is a democracy, so I put the motion to a vote.
  11. It can be done. But my body would not cooperate with that job anymore. Oh, the sill to the back and ribs. Took advantage of Black Friday deals and the overly generous return policies of some stores. Traded in the triple 27"s for triple 32's and had money to spare for a (lower quality) 4th monitor to use as a dash display. Who knew sim racing was just as addictive as the real thing????
  12. Its all poor engineering. NYC never burned to the ground, so the streets were never re-engineered with alleys. Prior to trash collection, deliveries by car, etc (ie when NYC was built) no one had the foresight to build alleys. With no alleys there is no way for the haulers to collect the trash (and no where to store it) so it gets put out on the street for pick up. Same problem with deliveries. Fed Ex and UPS trucks are a nightmare parked in front of buildings for 30+ minutes at a time. But I still LOVE NY. Wagon looks great. Head over to 99 miles to Philly and grab me sammich. Get crazy with the cheez wiz on the fries too.
  13. Most likely because you had the test mode connectors together. If you had a failed O2 you would have codes prior. But that rats nest, WTF? I see a cat 5/6 cable (like a phone cable-flat and black) that does not belong, a cut wire that appears OEM and an entire loom I dont recognize. I HATE when people who who dont understand electrical p[perform electrical work. I realize this was not you. AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Had a wonderful dinner with @JJBerk last night. I hope the freeze was bearable in the camper. Looks to be warming up this weekend. Wife and daughter are even more excited to visit Finger Lakes now.
  15. But its the friction between the rings and cylinder wall that cause wear. This is worst when the oil is cold and the pistons/rings and cylinder walls are cold. Pistons need to heat up and expand. Never scientifically tested, but I doubt keeping the coolant temp at 185 will help much with piston slap at start up. I could be wrong. Honestly the correct answer is that MANY owners do not need a built block with forged pistons. Forged pistons were designed for specific applications. Just because they work for the race track does not mean they are good for the street. Many times consumers get RACE confused with BETTER. Better for what? Running a 500 mile race is considered equivalent to 100k miles on the street. If the engine finishes the race it did its job. OEM engines are typically built with a higher intended lifespan during typical usage. I attempted to steer many customers away form forged internals, but somehow the interweb, marketing, peer pressure, what ever obviously clouded their brains. WTF do I know anyway? I'm just an uneducated, no experience, loud mouthed bully anyhow (and I dont make a living selling built blocks). Either way, I hope the best for you. I understand the cost and time invested and desire for long term enjoyment over continued wrenching.
  16. I actually had the parking brake inverted in my settings the first attempt to drive. Was like WTF!?!?!?!?!? Comedy. First it was the transition. I have been driving on dirt for months, I was sliding far too much. I was also slamming on the brakes to lock up coming into the turns while straight, then pitching the car. Once again a habit I picked up offroad. Once I got back to using a racing line and feathering my brakes with lots of trail braking the tires were much happier and I was faster. Definitely real enough to catch me trying to use body English. I am squirming all over that seat and dancing the Irish jig on the three pedals.
  17. How to make it last the longest, start it and never shut it down. Or as many a Subie enthusiast has said before, if you want it to last don't drive it.
  18. Just out of curiosity how cold is it where the car is stored that you feel the need for a coolant pre-heater? Just something I am far more accustomed to seeing on Diesel trucks.
  19. Yup, I know. Did another 100 laps on 2 set of tires last night. Wore a hole into my right middle finger through my gloves. Got the sticky ooze scab that wont heal if I keep driving with gloves now. Motorsports are a sport, you get boo boos. 1:55 is a FAST lap at Laguna Seca in a NA Miata. 1:50 is FAST in a FI Miata. I was driving a stock MX-5 with no traction control, stock ABS and ST rated tires (with the top down, cause I like the wind against my bald scalp). I was going all out. I clocked an avg lap time of 1:59. My best lap was 1:55. It has been over 15 years since I drove LA. It was just like I remember it. Killer over-crest into a down hill chicane, the whiplash hairpin left to finish that is SOOOOOO hard to carry speed through.
  20. Running Assetta Corsa, did about 70 laps around Laguna Seca in an MX-5 (changed tires 4 times, thanks pit crew!). Might just jump in the FT86 next. Car was slow, but good for figuring out my line, break/shift and turn ins. Track feels short compared to the Rallys.
  21. Cars are sooooooo expensive right now. Like everything but still, wow.
