  1. ...you think. You're checking your oil every time you get gas, right? I learned the hard way to do that. The number of things on these cars that can either leak oil (which, with the undertray, you don't even see) or cause the car to burn oil is kind of ridiculous. And by the time the oil pressure light comes on, you need a new turbo, a new shortblock, or both. I don't miss those days at all.
  2. I thought body kits went out of style two decades ago? I dunno, maybe it's just wishful thinking. Inb4 OP needs a new shortblock but spent all his money on a body kit.
  3. Sounds like, with the new reconciliation bill, it's actually 30% for the next 10 years. Also, Powerwalls are now eligible for the 30% incentive too.
  4. You don't have to do leased tanks. In fact, I wouldn't. My parents bought theirs. They can use whoever the lowest priced service is that will deliver to them. With a leased tank, the tank may be "free" if you get regular deliveries but you'll likely pay more for the deliveries than market rate, because you're locked into a contract with the one company. I do like the powerwalls. When we go solar I think I will put one of them in too. The goal would be to get as little power from the grid as possible.
  5. There are quite few 97-99 models on the list, too. Bizarrely, one of them is the Supra. It really picks up around 2001, though. I think the early dual-stage inflators were the worst.
  6. The electric tankless water heaters aren't very energy efficient. If you're going all-electric, a hybrid heat-pump tank unit makes more sense. Similarly, although heat pump HVAC does help, electric emergency heat (needed for very cold temps when heat pumps lose efficiency) is really inefficient compared to NG. Your house, but if it were me I'd still do a full sized propane tank. The upfront cost is peanuts compared to all the other expenses of building, and it's not like you'd ever regret having extra capacity, but you might regret not having it.
  7. Farther back than that. The earliest cars with the issue are from 2001. The latest are from 2016 or newer (I haven't checked recently, so not sure if more cars have been added). My boss's (since-retired) 2003 Honda Pilot and my mom's 2016 Tesla Model S were both recalled, as were my 2005 LGT (after I had already sold it) and my dad's 2010 Outback. If you have any car produced in that timeframe, especially a 4th gen or 5th gen Legacy or Outback, check your VIN for recalls to see if your car is included. As a reminder, the repair is free. EDIT: looks like the oldest car currently on the list is the 1996 Honda Civic Coupe and the newest one is the 2018 Infiniti QX30. Subaru vehicles included are the 2003–2014 Legacy and Outback; 2003–2006 Baja; 2004–2011 Impreza; 2006–2014 Tribeca; 2009–2013 Forester; and 2004–2014 WRX and WRX STI.
  8. How big is the lot? That's a pretty dense zoning... usually used for townhomes AFAIK. Cool if you've got a big lot though... Do the propane tank anyway, both for heat and possible future generator (dunno how the power is there, but it will be nice to have the ability to put one in if you need it). Plumb a line to the back deck area for a grill while you're at it. My parents were thinking about doing a propane cooktop when they renovated, but went induction and don't regret it.
  9. DR or rural zoning? After having city water I won't go for well and septic, which limits my choices of lots if I ever want to build.
  10. Oh you fancy, huh? Baltimore County or Harford County?
  11. I received the first email notifications in almost two months today!
  12. Bold of you to assume it's not still running on the original Speak N Spell from 2004
  13. Still no notifications since May 20 and no reply from Tide. Wondering how long this site will even still be functioning at this point.
  14. SPF/DMARC actually could well be the culprit. A lot of email providers are really cracking down on domains with improperly configured or missing SPF/DMARC info. Still no response from Tide to my PM
  15. PM sent. Last notification I received was on May 20.
  16. I just want them so I don't forget this forum exists for weeks on end. Although, come to think of it, that probably wouldn't be a bad thing
  17. Facebook has been doing way more to kill forums than Subaru's piss-poor product lineup. Everyone uses Facebook groups for the stuff that forums used to be the only option for.
  18. richsucks@fuckyou.com I got some notifications in the past 24 hours, BTW. Guess I just needed to post on this thread to unclog the tubes!
  19. None of those are sedans. Also, most of them have less power and really crappy interiors. The SS is a practical DD, but also a lot of fun to drive. 415 hp, RWD, 6-speed manual, great exhaust note... with a usable rear seat and a huge trunk. That's the appeal. I agree that $50k for a 5-8-year-old car that was that much new, or $30k+ for a salvage title, is crazy money and I would never pay it. But I bought mine (a 2016) for $37k in 2019, and I feel that it was worth that then. I probably would have paid a bit more to get the exact car I wanted, but I had been looking for 4 months at that point, and my ideal config had not popped up for sale anywhere within 1500 miles of home.
  20. You're certainly not getting a Chevy SS for $30k at this point, unless it's a super high mile 2014 (2014s didn't have MagRide, rear Brembos, manual option, etc.) or a salvage title. $40k minimum for a high mile (100k+) manual with clean title. Ones with under 50k are getting pretty close to original MSRP ($50k) at this point. Anything with under 20k on it, manual or auto, is at or above MSRP. The market is ridiculous.
  21. Had one for three years. It was fast, and decently fun to drive, although you had to push the pedal down pretty hard to wake it up... with normal around-town driving, it didn't feel that special. Pretty small inside, especially in the rear seat. Very low slung, which is why we traded it in (wife wanted something that was easier to get in and out of, and had more passenger and cargo room). Definitely had some nice ergonomics inside. I had the RWD... it's slightly faster stock than the AWD, but if you add any power at all, the AWD puts it down better, and you can lock it in RWD and then switch back to AWD with a simple DIY mod. All in all, it really depends on what you're looking for. Good if you just want to go fast. Not so great in terms of practicality. And I like my Chevy SS better from a fun perspective, even though it's slower. We traded it in for a Santa Fe with the 2.5T... and if I were doing THAT over, I'd go with the Genesis GV70, which we were also looking at.
  22. Yeah, you've been driving it for a few days. As I said, I drove mine for a year. It was even lower mileage, too -- 52k when I inherited it from my grandparents in January 2006. They have vague steering that's overly susceptible to crosswinds, every turn is body-roll city, they're totally gutless (even with the manual that mine had -- which was also super rubbery and vague), and I doubt the brakes were good even when new but they certainly hadn't improved with 15 years of deterioration of the hydraulic system, and my guess is another 15 years hasn't helped your car any. The styling also looks hella ugly to me (although that's certainly a subjective judgement), the seats were uncomfortable for anything over a half-hour drive and the fabric was practically sandpaper, the motorized seatbelts were a terrible idea even before they were installed in any cars, even the L+ I had didn't have variable-intermittent wipers (that was reserved for LS and above), and the headlights were entirely worthless (yay 9004 bulbs and plastic lenses!). About the only pluses were AWD and manual (neither of which your car has, of course), and the cargo space, which I concede was both capacious and very useful. Plus, it was a car, when I really needed a car, and it didn't break down. I mean, I guess it wasn't as bad as the Loyale, but the first-gen Legacys (my brother had a 92 sedan, which was only marginally better, despite having even less mileage -- 40k -- and being garage kept for its first 14 years) are cooler in concept than in practice.
  23. Speaking as someone who drove a 1990 Legacy wagon for a year... those things are POSes
