  1. I got mine in the mail yesterday!

Nice to live less than an hour from the Dev.

Install looks simple, 3 wires and a little hose (4 if you are using wideband). Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to do the whole install.

I'll probably wait until my next day off to do the final install. I'm pretty excited, and I'll take lots of pics for sure!

  2. Approximately how many square feet of material would I need to do the entirety of my wagon? I want to do the floor, doors, roof, hatch, everything.

I was going to use this stuff: http://www.raamaudio.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=3

BXT on the floor, BXT-II on everything else, and a layer of self-stick Ensolite on the back side of all of the panels (so on the headliner side of the headliner, on the back of the door cards and all trim panels, etc. I would put it directly over the butyl material on the floor though, not stick it to the back of the carpet).

What do you guys think of that approach?

I was also going to fill some dead space in the hatch and rear quarters with some Polyfill, as well.

  3. This is an old as hell topic, but this is almost exactly what I want to do.

I want a dual screen setup with the OEM NAV in the top screen (a full OEM transplant, but using the Kenwood/Garmin unit for the nav instead of the DVD based OEM setup), and an A/V setup in the lower screen.

My goal is to have the top screen be all-nav, all-the-time (and the other factory bits), and have the lower screen be for all audio use/bluetooth integration/etc. I won't use the navigation in the lower unit at all, but functionality and OEM look is extremely important.

I had a lead on an OEM screen/bezel not too long ago for not a ton of money but that kind of fell through. I want a complete take-out system, if possible, so I don't have to hack up wiring or anything and I can turn it mostly plug-and-play.

For the lower screen, I was thinking of the Pioneer AVIC-X920BT because it looks like it could be completely OEM and has Pandora Link (which is awesome), or the AVH-P3200BT because it also looks OEM (but lacks the Pandora Link interface, which I actually kind of want).

The X920BT would be awesome, but that's a lot of $$$ for a Nav headunit that I won't be using for navigation. I'm still trying to figure out if the X920BT's Pandora feature ONLY works with the iPhone, or if it will work with the Droid as well.

I think having both of the screens completely independent is the best way to go, though I would like to see if there was a way to have the Navigation dialog interrupt the audio from the lower headunit.

If the X920BT will work with a Droid, then that'll be the ideal setup for me. OEM looks with massive functionality. I think the whole setup would look great, sound good, and ultimately work really well. All without the headache of a CarPC. I do wonder how an aftermarket head unit would interface with the HK amp? It would probably work alright, I would think.

The only better setup would be if the top screen "MAP" button would bring up the Nav screen from the lower unit and still retain touch-screen use. Then I could completely forego the Kenwood/Garmin setup and have an all-in-one unit. Saddly, I don't know of a single aftermarket unit that allows the Nav system to be displayed on another screen, let alone one that would interface with the factory touch screen.

  4. So I have coined the name VBG1 for this thing. I have been working on a manual for operation. I have also added the ability to program startup text on each screen. Basically you have 7 Characters for each screen, completely custom. So you can have it flash whatever you like for the splash screen. It also mimics the sweep of the LGT gauges.

7 characters per screen could give you

SUBARU | LEGACY (default) or LEGACY | GT or WAIT TO | START (someone mentioned that before)

So the code is semi-officially done. Just tweaking a few minor things. I have been updating the code on the unit in my car and running with it everyday. Looks like it has been in my car since 03-22-2010 or so. Yikes how time flies.

Sweet that was exactly what I was hoping for. It means that I can have "SUBARU | OUTBACK" or the "WAIT TO | START"

    Really excited now!

  5. If $1885 is ridiculous, please let us know how much you can bring this in for to door. I do not think its fair for you to call it ridiculous without posting a price yourself.

    Thanks,

    J

I'm not a vendor, nor do I plan on becoming one. I will ask my friends in Japan if they know of any place that can get them for closer to the Japanese street price, and if they do then I will relay that information back here. How is it unfair that I have an opinion of your price?

  6. Wow, the weight difference is huge between an 05 and an 09. Looks like anyone with an 09 should look at getting the 5058j kit.

I think everyone tracking this thread has read Mike's write up and will agree that an upgrade to one of the Bilstein kits will be an improvement over stock. But, what's the better "fit" for OB XT's given the differences in weight? The 5056 or 5058 kit? Thoughts?

    2005 curb weights

    2.5i with AT = 3,355 (-125)

    2.5XT with AT = 3,480

    3.0R LLBean = 3,600 (-120)

  7. I think it's a pretty lightweight solution. You are making 73hp and 71ft-lbs more torque than the N/A at slightly less weight than the H6 (and with a boat load more torque).

I'm basing my figures off of the automatic versions of the 2009 2.5i limited, 2.5XT and 3.0R.

    2.5i Limited - 3481lbs

    2.5XT Limited - 3616lbs

    3.0R Limited - 3631lbs

Seems like the 5058J might be the better option for the OBXT owners, unless there is something I'm missing.
