  1. someone just sent me this, made me laugh... http://www.ksdk.com/news/national/story.aspx?storyid=195855&catid=28
  2. A little boy comes up to his father, and asks "Daddy, what's the difference between 'in theory' and 'in practice'? I've heard it a couple times, and I don't get it" The father replies "Son, that's a tough question to answer... let me show you an example, and maybe you can figure it out for yourself..." "Here's what you do, go into the kitchen, and ask your mother if she'd sleep with a stranger for 2 million dollars." The son starts to question, "But dad, that doesn't..." and the dad cuts him off, "just go do it son, and come back and tell me what she says". So the little boy goes to his mom, and asks her, and she replies "wow, that's a tough one, let me think about it... yes...I'd have to say yes, for 2 million, I would" The boy runs back to his father, and tells him what his mom says, and the father replies "All right, now go ask your sister the same questions..." The son starts to question, "But dad, that doesn't..." and the dad cuts him off, "just go do it son, and come back and tell me what she says". So the boy goes and finds his sister, and asks her the same question. Immediately she replies "hell yeah, for 2 million I'd do it in a heartbeat!" The boy runs back to his father, and tells him what his sister said. THe father smiles and says "And what have we learned? Do we understand what 'in theory' and 'in practice' mean?" The boy thinks about it for a second, and replies "I think I get it now dad.. "In Theory, we're sitting on 4 million dollars" "In Practice, we just live with a couple of whores"
  3. Ditto, get the same thing when it's cold. The first couple shifts (1-3) after starting in this weather, and it feels like a mule is sitting behind my seat. Once it warms up, I've got to make an effort to recreate it (but I can...) Just aggressive driving in "D" (no sport, no manumatic), and I can get the tranny to bang on an upshift (slam the gas down, then at the top of the rev, let off a little bit, then hit it again), pretty regularly. I've also got a tranny-cooler, and check the fluid fairly often... no signs of any issues (bought a used 5eat w/ 60xxx miles, kinda paranoid about it). I think it's just 5EAT goodness... it's not a bug, it's a Feature!
  4. Thanks weitek, that's a relief. I looked at the rest of the logs from this morning (general commuting), and I noticed some larger numbers there too, at like 30% throttle, so I kind of assumed it was ok after the post, but it's nice to have an expert confirmation I'll try your suggestion and see where that gets me.. thanks again!
  5. I don't want to hijack the thread, and I'm just getting started learning about how to tune, but I've done a couple data-logging sessions and I'm trying... My question: I did a 1-3rd gear WOT log this morning, and I'm seeing the parameter "Knock Correction Advance (degrees)" get as high as 5.5 in 1st gear, 4 in 2nd, and 3 in 3rd. I don't have good logs to post (will in the future), my only concern is the high numbers... So, should I lay off the throttle until I can learn/diagnose/log more? Am I doing damage by being frisky with the pedal? I'm starting to understand more of this, but it's slow going and I'd hate to screw something up before I even get started. If the log would help, I can post it.. the parameters I logged (and yes, I know these aren't optimum) are: Knock Correction Advance (degrees) Manifold Relative Pressure (psi) Mass Airflow (g/s) THrottle Open Angle (%) .. Please forgive my ignorance .. and Thanks!
  6. Very nice writeup, answered a lot of questions... unfortunately, a little late for my install, but still ... nice job. I've got the metra dash kit in my 2.5i w/ manual climate controls, and while I agree it's not an exact match, it's pretty darn close.. and I didn't have to wire any circuits Fantastic call on the depth of the door speakers. Got the Boston S60 components sets a while back, and with both door panels off, and everything disassembled, I realized the speakers wouldn't fit. Drove to the shop with no panels only to find out they didn't have the right spacers. Ended up fabbing my own out of chip-board. Looks and sounds great... gfxDave99 - How did you install the tweeters for the components? Just curious, I replaced the stock tweeters with the Bostons, but the install was a little messy... wondering if there was an easier way... If you're curious, I've got some pics on cardomain: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2318799
