  1. The Microcontroller is located in the display unit. The programing cable is connected to the sending unit and there is a serial interface to the display unit in which the firmware can be uploaded. Also I will note that version 1.05 display units are not compatible with version 1.00-04 sending units, due to changes in the ribbon cable wiring.
  2. Discount codes have been issued to beta testers only. In other news: 1.05b5 Firmware released for the VBG1 can be downloaded from the website. This fixes power up sequencing issues related to PLX-AFR described above. You can find the download under the "Version" section of the VBG1 page.
  3. I like the plx interface better too. In fact I'm going to try to support PLX oil senders as well. I believe I have found the bug with the PLX power up issue and will probably have an update to the firmware out by Monday. Also I am 99% sure that plx cable they are selling on the website is available at digikey: Also I believe it's Identical to the programming cable I sell. http://www.plxdevices.com/datalogger.html http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/TTL-232R-3V3-AJ/768-1098-ND/2285997 or mouser: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/FTDI/TTL-232R-3V3-AJ/?qs=Xb8IjHhkxj4CJ2SCCMHPLQ%3d%3d
  4. Scooby2.5 - great news, looking forward to hearing about that voltage. jayway - great feedback, I'm glad you said something again? (I may have mis-read your PM.) Anyway I am gonna try and get a fix for this. I would like it to function regardless of power up sequencing. I wouldn't want to wait...and neither should you, this really is a bug in my mind. I'm curious if the sm-afr is powered from the same fuse tap (IG2)? If it is, the SM-AFR may brown out during cranking, disrupting the serial packet stream, the vbg1 may not be correctly re-syncing to the data. I'm gonna get on this and let you know when I have an update ready.
  5. Correct VBG1 is primarily a boost gauge however it allows 1 input for AFR or Oil pressure display. Right now AFR data can be sourced digitally from the PLX-SM-AFR. Setting this up is as easy as connecting the 3.5mm serial (audio cable) from the plx sending unit TX port to the VBG TX/RX port. See the manual for more info: (page 8) http://www.gtboostgauge.com/VBG1%20-%20Manual%20for%20V1.05.pdf Other options to display afr are via an analog connection to an LC-1 (page 7) Currently you can do oil pressure monitoring with the gauge via analog sensor see this link: http://www.gtboostgauge.com/VBG1%20Aux%20Oil%20pressure%20wiring%20instructions.pdf In other news: I hope to get the VBG1 setup to do oil pressure via PLX. Is anybody using the PLX Oil Pressure Sensor Module ? Do you guys like it? I'm curious because there have been mixed reviews about the Prosport oil sender. Hey beta testers: Thanks for beta testing! Any updates on 5th Gen Beta testing? Would love some pics! Any issues on AFR monitoring via PLX?
  6. I will look into this. Not sure how much demand there is, also not sure if LC-1 publishes their protocol like PLX does (thanks PLX). Excellent - thanks for beta testing. Yup! Current version is 1.05b4
  7. Beta testing positions for AFR via PLX (software version - 1.05b4) - FULL, thanks!
  8. Update: I Think the AFR display via PLX is good to go. I would like to try it out on a beta tester if someone is interested, I don't have plx in my car, so I don't have long hours of testing on this new code. As you can see from the pic I picked up some PLX units and tested this thing out on the benchtop. Seems to be working good, if your interested let me know and I will send out a coupon. Integration is pretty easy - you plug the serial (audio) cable in from the last PLX SENSOR unit to the VBG1 Serial jack and select "AFR-PLC" for Aux input in the configuration menu. The VBG1 should auto detect the sensor for AFR only and display the data.
  9. That's correct - be sure to buy the programming cable if you plan to update. I hope to have the update out in about a week. If you configure the gauge to use analog input AFR via LC-1 temporarily - you should only notice an offset of .5 AFR - due to the difference in the output profile between LC-1 and ZT2/3. I think the AFR via PLX option is a good functionality to add to VBG1 because it's a pure digital interface, and there are no concerns about grounding or improper analog output configuration. Great suggestion jayway - thanks!
  10. Guess I should really change the screen to say ZT2/3 - looks like they are the same linear output voltage map to AFR. So yes this will work for both. I have it working here - it's not shipping yet because I'm going to release the PLX compatibility at the same time. The version which will support the zeitronic zt-2/3 and PLX compatibility will be version 1.05b4. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=110676&thumb=1&d=1326900975
  11. I have almost got the AFR input via PLX SM-AFR ready to go. I have it working for a PLX single sensor chain. However I have on order a second sensor to check the daisy chain configuration. From my understanding you can gang multiple sensors together on the serial line using the TX->RX connections throughout the chain. I'm programming the VBG1 to grab the value of the first AFR sensor it sees on the chain. Not sure why you would have two AFR sensors for your setup - but this guy did. 12. Code, my records show you are running one of the 'hand built' beta units, if that keeps up I will get you a replacement, sounds like the OLEDs did not initialize correctly, so could be a bad solder joint or something. (hardware issue)
  13. 2.4 Volts should give you 14.7 AFR if your getting 13.7 the input at the VBG1 should read somthing real close to 1.9V at the input to the VBG1.
  14. Margin of error for the VBG1 should be +/- 0.1 AFR. I good way to check this out is use a volt meter directly at the input to the VBG1 sending unit and measure the AFR voltage. I just double checked and 13.1AFR should read about 1.6V and 14.1 AFR should read about 2.1V if the cobb is connected to the same analog output, the cobb may be current stealing. If the Cobb and VBG1 are on different analog output channels the ground potential could be different if they are not tied an the same spot. The LC-1 configs should look like this: Wiring:
  15. Still working on a compact concept that will fit in this vent...It will still be a while though, still working out some design decisions. I will most likely keep the gauge pretty simple with options to display afr via analog input or PLX protocol. Speaking of which... I got my PLX AFR-2 combo kit in the mail with a DM-6. Not sure what I did wrong but I think i bricked by DM-6 somehow by entering the configurations menu and then cutting power. The DM-6 no longer displays anything on the OLED except the start up splash screen, and the LEDs seem to display the AFR correctly...hmmm. Anyone else seen anything like that? Probably wasnt a good idea to remove power in the middle of configuring it. Not a big deal - I really just needed the SM-AFR 2 to produce the serial data stream so I could test the VBG1 with it. Probably a few ready by late next week! Sorry I didn't implement this earlier, the change wasn't too hard to make.
  16. Thanks to ShadowImg and praedet for the PLX cable info - that makes sense about the Y-splitter, and it looks like they include one in the SM-AFR2 / DM-6 combo kit. That should be in by tomorrow so the mystery will be over soon.
  17. PLX SM-AFR2 and a DM-6 is on order for development. The goal is to read the PLX data stream so the VBG1 can present PLX AFR info. Previously VBG1 was only compatible with AFR info via LC-1. Quick bump - still looking for 5G-LGT beta testers. PM if interested.
  18. Great! I plan on starting on this soon. I wasn't sure how popular the plx style gauges are, but looking into them, I like the way the provide all sensor data on one serial link. They also seem to be running the serial interface on a 3.3 V system (same as VBG1) this is great for compatibility. So does the DM-6 have a TX out line - in other words how do you get two DM-6 displays on the same data stream? Great question, I will am offering a 100 discount to those who trade in an older VBG1 complete gauge setup. Simply mail your old gauge in with your contact info and I will send you a coupon for 100 off a new gauge. Or buy a new gauge from the site and mail the old gauge in within 60 days and I will refund you 100 bucks.
  19. 1.05 seems pretty solid now - so it's being shipped... pick up the "update cable" and get free firmware upgrades for the life of the gauge. Wow - that new plx touch gauge looks cool - i believe it's the DM-6. They have a capacitive touch interface now too! Looking around at the PLX site I got to thinking they do all their data transfer via the iMFD Serial Protocol - which is well documented on their site. Now that the latest hardware version of the VBG1 has a serial port - we should be able to lift data from that bus.... so lets just say I think PLX SM AFR compatibility will be put on the firmware "to-do" list.
  20. Actually the productions ones are ready to go in small quantities. I ended up buying a vent for the 5th GEN LGT so I could develop the gauge and check fitment. But since I don't have the whole car I have no idea what other pitfalls we may encounter. Hoping to get a few beta testers on board to snap some pictures for the install manual and give some feedback, hints, or tricks.
  21. Scooby2.5 - Thanks for the review, looking good! Glad you are liking it. Still looking for a beta tester for the 5th Gen LGT. 100 bucks off price of the gauge. Just need some install pictures and some feedback. Gauge is ready. PM me for coupon code. http://gtboostgauge.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=33 http://gtboostgauge.com/shop/images/IMAG0439.jpg
  22. Beta testers positions are full for version 1.05 unless you have a 5th gen Legacy Gt. Still need 1 or 2 more of those.
  23. I pre-released a quick version to JP to see if it fixes his issue, the official beta update will be posted soon online.
