  1. Happy new year! Good news! I got confirmation today that my connectors are shipping. This means I will attempt to ship beta units as a "plug-in" configuration type. These connectors I speak of mate with both the trip computer and the trip computer wiring harness. Lets hope they arrive fast so we can get these beta units out and tested.
  2. Wow 3 bar is around 43.5 psi! Thanks for the link. I have a sensor in mind similar to the mpx4250 currently used. I like the idea of broadening installation options. There may even be a wireless version in the future, that would get rid of the need to run vac hose through the firewall.
  3. It's been a while since the last update: Good news! I have found and will be receiving sample connectors for both male and female sides. This means there will be a "no cutting" installation method for the GTBoost digital gauge. I have been riding around with the prototype in my car for almost a month now, still works great, with no software issues cropping up. I choose to display Boost pressure in the instant MPG data slot, and choose not to view vac. Most of the time it reads "---" or course until you boost and it reads boost pressure. I'm really enjoying this unique little mod. Hopefully this will work in the 2005 cars. I expect to be contacting beta testers in early to mid Jan 2009 Many have been asking about price, It's not official, however i expect it should be less than 90 bucks. Happy holidays
  4. True, The guys without clock are left out of this one. Nothing has been tested with a navigation system yet. It may work for the older navigation system, however the navigation system may get the data via another method (not the serial line from the gauge cluster, maybe directly off the can bus) for now...
  5. Look what I found - The idea would be to have a nice plug in solution. This product still looks to be on target for a mid to late January arrival.
  6. Quite a few people have been asking about a 2007+ solution. Because the 2007 trip computer is integrated into the gauge cluster It's not as easy to replace the data stream with boost data. From what I have been researching it seems it is a can protocol direct to the gauge cluster that contains all gauge cluster information. Although it's probably possible, the risk of screwing something up is much bigger. However 2007 still have a clock. What about replacing that PCB board with this one? You see what I'm getting at? Look at the pic. Dual OLED Displays with boost info, time info, temp info? jeeze I don't know the possibility's are endless really. It's a thought. Then all the 07+ guys could have a nice solution.
  7. So it's been a while since the last post but don't be worried GTboost digital is still in the works. Although I don't expect them to be for sale until Jan 09. I'm struggling with a good way to hook them up. The data line needs to be interrupted, so without a mating connector...that means cutting a wire. I'm trying to design a solution around this, or find the mating connector from some distributer. Testing kinda of came to a stand-still while my own connector got worn our from many numerous disconnects. Although I have been in touch with some other on the forum and they are helping me out with new terminals! Many have been asking about a higher max pressure capability. I'm working on this as well and expect to have this improved beyond the current 22 PSI max. Some have also been wondering about a 2007+ solution. I hope to be working on that in 2009 as well. The product would actually be a clock replacement, still maintaining clock capability of course, but adding other functionality including boost pressure. Think of it as a LCD that would replace the clock display...the options then for additional functionality could be endless. Love the feedback! keep it coming.

  9. this is how setting max boost alarm will work: -Set trip computer to display temperature. -With the driver's door open, double click trip select button on gauge cluster. -Gauge will beep for 1 sec. when the setup is activated -Press the trip select button to increase the max boost alarm set point. (1 PSI resolution) Max set point is 22 PSI. If you pass the desired set point, keep clicking the set point will reset to zero after you exceed 22. Don't be tempted to hold down the trip select button to increase the set point faster, this will still reset you trip computer millage. -When you have selected the set point you want simple close the driver's door. The set point is now stored in memory. Set to 0 for no alarm [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIe1twPujEw]YouTube - GTBoost Digital programing[/ame] Some other options are set with the data display switch: SW1 - DATA Location OFF - Instant MPG only ON - Instant MPG + Temperature (boost only) SW2 - Display Vac OFF ON SW3 - Boost peak hold OFF ON SW4 - Instant MPG display options OFF - Display "---" while pulling vacuum (Only valid if SW2 is OFF) ON - Display Instant MPG while pulling vacuum (Only valid if SW2 is OFF)
  10. Anyone know where to get a wire harness/connector for the trip computer? Shoot! I can't believe this. So as you guys know I have been fixing the code up, testing. Well each time I load new code I needed take out the trip computer. Well I must have unplugged the connection to the trip computer/clock 50 times in the last week. And tonight I was trying to take videos of the beta units, setting max boost alarm, and what not for instructional purposes...and things start acting flaky, The trip computer was saying "Err" then I noticed it started blinking when I open and shut the door. well to make a long story short, dont disconnect and re-connect your trip computer more than 50 times. Probably not an issue for most. This connector has had alot of abuse through the development of the gtboost style gauges. ...this could hold things up for a bit, help!
  11. I hope so. Unless I find something really wrong with the code, it's pretty much ready for beta testing with the 06 and with Nav. I hope to ship beta units out to those guys Monday if they pm me with their add this weekend;) So prosport uses an absolute reference? In denver,CO you are at about 5k feet. That's about 2.5 PSI off if the gauge uses a 1 ATM reference. sound right? Anyway, the GTboost Digital will take a reference when the gauge starts up. So you should see accurate boost numbers. However, because there is a limitation within the sensor to about -24 in HG vac and about 22 PSI (current design) (60psi LATER), lets say it 'zeros' at 5000ft. that means you loose range of about 2.5 PSI on the top end. Okay more videos to come as the GTBoost digital is taking form. I'm driving to work with it everyday, looking for bugs, checking out features. Starting to really like seeing 'real numbers' I have my original GTboost installed too, and the GTboost digital set to 'hold peak boost' It's cool to see the leds light up and hold, and then the real PSI number is being displayed as well. ...more later.
  12. Yeah, my thinking is that this will work with the NAV. Of you read further back I explain why, But for now all I can be sure of is that it works in the 2006. Actually I could be ready to ship beta units next week. So we will soon find out...
  13. Nope, no one has asked, but heres your answer. This gauge does not use OBDII interface. It gets boost data from a stand-alone sensor. It then replaces serial data from the gauge cluster with boost information which is then displayed on the trip computer. In 07+ LGTs the trip computer has been relocated to the gauge cluster, only a clock remains under the cubby. Hacking the cluster embedded trip computer is outside the scope of this project.
  14. weird, the 06 does not have this feature...does the 05 trip computer dim with the rest of the dashboard (6 or so dimming levels)? I would assume so right? The reason behind these questions is that my idea is to control features of the GTBoost digital using a combination of parking light toggling and the illumination data. For example to set max boost alarm, you may toggle parking lights five times. Then scroll up illumination wheel to increase alarm setpoint, scroll down decrease setpoint. Somthing like that.
  15. Can someone explain what the "bright" (light bulb) button does on the 2005 trip computer?
  16. I have been doing some testing to improve update rates as well as trying out various configurations of data display techniques. I found out that when you choose to display boost in the ‘temperature data slot’ the trip computer blinks the displayed value for 5 seconds, just like when it’s cold outside. This of course interrupts viewing of any other value for the 5 or so seconds. It was 58 outside when I was doing the testing, and I had the display configured to only show boost. So during vac the temperature would be displayed, during boost, the gauged blinks and shows pressure. After the 5 seconds the gauge no longer blinks, and will show you peak boost obtained. (I’m thinking that holding peak boost will be an option set by the dip switch) Another thing I need to implement is a way to set the audible alarm (beep) for max pressure. Configurable by the user, it would alarm when the pressure is exceeded. I realize not all would want this, that’s why one of the switches would be responsible for disabling all beeping, regardless or max pressure setting. Anyway testing is going well. Here our some answers to questions. Nope, the average MPGS are calculated somewhere else, the trip computer is really just a display configured to step through different values, display the selected value, and keep track of time. So again, were interrupting the data stream, replacing data, and using the trip computer to display boost data. (it thinks the boost data is temperature, or Instant MPG data...stupid trip computer) all set on beta testers now. Maybe one day I will need somebody to test the metric unit version. For now I'm focusing on the US unit version, because thats what I have for a test bed. Not without modify the trip computer itself. Right now only data to the trip computer is being tampered with. I know what you are getting at, and right now it can’t be done explicitly through the data stream. There are some bits in a particular data packet which may do things...For instance there is a bit to indicate the drivers door is open, a bit to indicate low fuel. By chance there is a bit that may alter the display format or display an error code without the usual titles. It's a long shot, I will be looking into it. I have seen this request many times on legacygt.com I will look into a way of offering this feature. This is where I may need a beta tester in the furture. Did you want all units in metric or just the temp?
  17. Beta tester will be: 2005 - dammitjim Nav beta tester - dmp 2006 - tested by me Thanks guys. I will let you know when I'm ready to ship these beta units. Then you can PM me with your addresses.
  18. Yup! This will be up to the user. Options are selected by toggling a dipswitch. For example I like to keep the TEMP on display most of the time, with the appropriate settings I would be able to view boost pressure while boosting and temperture under normal vac without pressing any buttons. I will need some help testing on a car with a nav, I dont have a nav. I will also need a beta tester for an 2005. As a beta tester I would ship you the gauge - if it works and you like it you could then keep it for an "at cost" value (TBD). However I would need feedback and pictures. I wish I could. Altough it will display boost data on the trip computer and hopefully the navigation unit. There is no way to modify either display to say 'boost' As you can see in the video - it displays MPG.
  19. There is no doubt I can modify data sent from the gauge cluster to the trip display, however rescaling mpgs for bigger injectors probably is more of a calculation in the ECU rather then just a simple liner scaling factor. Honestly I don't know enough about it to even get started right now. Really all we can do with the trip computer is replace data it already displays. Although I understand your screen name now hadvw. Once I did envision a whole replacement trip computer with more advanced functionality, included boost gauge and OBDII reader. That project has been put on the shelf for now. Oh gotcha, thought that's what you might have meant. Nope here I'm using my own sensor. Yup, it's a separate gauge. This way you can have one without the other. OR both. Speaking of both...Here is a teaser shot with a GTBoost16 and a GTBoost Digital installed. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF_iJOkbshc]YouTube - Subaru legacy trip computer now displays Boost pressure.[/ame]
  20. The user will have to pick at least one readout to negate. For instance the 'GTboost Digital' can be selected to overide INSTANT MPG while boosting. So to view boost you would have to have INSTANT MPG selected on the trip computer. Another option would be to select to overide TEMP. So only while boosting temperature would be over ridden to display boost. Great question, first off the resolution is limited by the display itself not the pressure sensor. On top of that the resolution will vary depending on which value readout you choose to override. For example the AVE TRIP B reading provides 0.3 unit resolution, while the TEMP reading only provides single digit resolution, the INSTANT MPG provides 0.5 unit resolution. Range is determined by the sensor. The sensor now provides up to 20.5 PSI max pressure. I am in the process of testing one that should provide up to 60 PSI! Both sensors have vacuume max at 24 in.Hg. Max pressure should not be an issue for this gauge. Actually, This will need to be tested...but since the serial data stream that is being recieved - modified - then re-transmitted should be the same for the NAV system. This means there is a good posibility that your instant MPG graph on your NAV system could turn into a boost gauge. Kinda neat. Not sure what would have to be corrected - Please note that GTBoost Digital would come with it's own pressure sensor, it would not rely on any stock pressure sensor in the car. Not sure if that changes this modification that you speak of?
  21. Hopefully will be available by early December. Still working out some details on features and price.
  22. Here is the new GTBoost Digital It has been a long road of development... but its finally ready. They will be available at www.gtboostgauge.com/shop as built. Available only for the 2005-2006 model years. US UNITS ONLY. Allows your existing trip computer to display boost pressure and vacuum. Audible alarm can be set to indicate peak/max limit boost. -------------Original thread start--------------- This topic has been discussed over here but I wanted to separate it from the GTboost gauge thread, so specific issues and comments relating to this idea don't get lost with the other thread. Okay here is a video of the hacked display. It simply demos the idea that the update rate of the trip computer is rather fast on all settings...and that we can replace serial data with boost data for a stock looking digital readout.
