Installed Stebel Magnum horn (98% plug and play)

Recommended Posts

So instead of going Hella Horns, I went Stebel Magnum twin horns ($26.45 shipped) from Hornsplus Automotive. The new horns make me happy :) I did not relocated them behind the grill because I did not want to bother cutting or extending wires. Therefore, I just replace the old ones, and plug in the new ones.

So first, removed the old horns (sorry, no pix). The Stebel horns come with a horn, and 2 pieces of metal plates. The stock black screw is too big, so you need to drill the metal plates bigger to fit the screw. This is what it looks like horns installed on the bracket:

The (+) of the horn can use the original factory plug. As for the (-), you need to get 2 flat female wire connector and 2 circle ring (from kragen or radio shack). I happened to have a pair of OLD wire connector (circle, but hey, it does the trick) from some old fog lights, and a circle ring for ground. So the flat female goes to the horn (in my case, the circle one), and the ring use for ground.

I hope those ring connectors stay attached..... A trip to radioshack and $1 would've gotten you the right connectors

yea...just wanted to finish it up..so i was lazy

as for sound; If you have heard Infiniti G35 or Nissan 350Z's horn, it is about the same (my sister has an 07 G, while I had a 350Z before). Let me try to put up a sound clip later.

nice write up chris, well done.

if i'm gonna take the time to upgrade, considering something more along the lines of this, though (especially for the farty rsx or similar that always seems to be buzzing around me trying to goad a streetrace):

(the irony is the stock cl horn = puniest meep ever).

Just did the same upgrade. Awesome improvement. Not neccessarily much louder, but not tinny anymore and hard to ignore. I used similar methods. I got 16 gauge wire and attachments for both ends. I'll be able to add pictures and movies hopefully soon.

hey guys,

Finally got my pictures together. The first one is of the stock horns. The second is of the chirp thing that goes off when you press the alarm button. The rest is of the installed horns. You can see how I attached the horns with zip ties. Worked a little better for me. You can also see I bought some wire and connectors at autozone. It is right next to the horns. I put the negatives on the mounting bracket.

Also, I've got two video clips. Anybody know where I can host them relatively easily?
