phesa1005
I've been getting 15.9 mpg and babying the car also all stock. Did all tune up and still the same. I don't know what's wrong with the car or am I pumping bad gas.
silen7guardian
Check/clean/replace injectors, MAF sensor, O2 sensors, vacuum leaks, PCV valve, air filter, etc. Could any number of things, or it could be all of them. I'm sure there's other things to check that I'm forgetting... Especially if yours is an earlier LGT, I'd start by cleaning the MAF sensor (MAF sensor cleaner is about $3) and replacing the O2 Sensors, as they'll likely need to be replaced anyway. ALX2987
Has I been stock it's whole life? If it was modified previously there may still be a tune that's not for a stock setup. Does it drive/boost smoothly?
phesa1005
It's stock never modified
Burock
That's about what my Legacy GT got as stock w/ my lead foot. Once I went to Stage 2+, my average is about 19.5mpg. If I drive very conservatively, I can get low to mid 20s, but it takes the fun out of owning this car. I usually am having the most fun at 10 mpg average. phesa1005
I did all the tune up and check everything. So I guess I'll stage two and get a tune lol

MAP
16 to 17mpg is what i normally get on my normal commutte (20 mi each way)but its almost all street. On highway i can get close to 30 mpg if i take it easy. The car passed california smog check easily. All stock.

MAP
Phesa1005, What kind of driving do you do? (I.e. percentage of street vs highway) Low tire air pressure can significantly affect mpg with these low profile tires. As someone mentioned, the upstream sensor may need changing as well. chimera
Mines stock 5eat (tiptronic) and ranges from 15 (thrashing it everywhere) to 18 (mix of smooth and relatively hard driving) to 24mpg (nana driving) My pick will be faulty O2 sensor
iNVAR
in stop and go traffic, that is about right. so it depends. don't jump to the conclusion just yet that something is wrong. see if you can find a tactrix or vagcom cable and hook it up and pull a learningview. if you don't know how to do that, search. xt2005bonbon
Before spending money, I would go for a ride 100% highway, and see how your mileage is. I'd shoot for 100 miles maybe and see how it goes.

Jefferson
I have no idea if the Legacy Gt has a coolant temp sensor, but I would think it would. On the 1st gen SS there is and it has alot to do with the performance of the engine, mileage included. Might be worth checking into. I know there is alot of difference between the obd1 cars and the ones now, but... Jeff
mwiener2
His coolant gauge would read funny too if that was it. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
Jefferson
On the SS there are 2 different coolant temp sensors, one for the gauge and one for the ecu. Like I say I have no idea how they did it on the GT. It would be worth looking into I think. Jeff
mwiener2
It's not an SS, it's not his problem. If you don't know what you are talking about (you don't) don't offer advice, because it isn't helpful and you are polluting the internet.
