MaStaMooN
Hi, Well looks like my passenger side valve cover gasket is leaking. And looking around here it seems pretty common. Shop wants 200 bucks installed to do the job. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=150183&stc=1&d=1367253040 But while I was under there, I noticed this pipe was shot.. can anybody tell me what it is? http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=150182&stc=1&d=1367253007 Thanks! Moderators BarManBean Posted April 29, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 29, 2013 It says $200 installed--seems pretty good to me. Is that your oil cross over pipe? apexi
I called three dealers who all quoted me between $530-$550 for both valve cover gaskets and 4 spark plug tube seals, I wonder if they were quoting you for both sides? Or if it is just that much harder to do on a LGT, that they charge you a lot more. $200 sounds like a good deal though, I would let the shop do it for that much. FJuan
Yes, that pipe is the oil cooler crossover pipe. It goes from the water pump to the oil cooler, which is what your oil filter is attached to. My wife's balls are delicious.

Captain Ned
@ MaStaMooN: NJ, so you're in the salt belt (VT here), and the pipe sits right over an exhaust pipe. Dousing things in high-test salt brine then making them very hot is a quick path to rot. Should probably take a hint from the marine world and wrap a zinc sacrificial anode around the replacement. Max Capacity
remember there is a mess to clean up after you do the work yourself. Your paying these guy's to take care of all the mess and give you back a ready to drive car with a cooling system that has been burped and a VC that no longer leaks. Rey at AZP and I are on email right now, I'm getting ready to place an order with him. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). Charged
Yeah, when I did my TB the other weekend I found a really rusty coolant pipe as well. Luckily there was enough good metal left that I was able to sand it down, give it a coat of POR15, and spray some paint on it. It must be a salt magnet even with the splash panel in place. Charged
BTW, how old is your crank pulley? Looks pretty rusty too...might be worth replacing if it's original. I had mine go at around 100K and from what I've heard that's not uncommon.

06legsleeper
well worth what they quoted you for sure ... . my passanger side leaks a tiny bit .. i did my up pipe a few weeks ago, and while i was there i figured id check the bolts on the vc..... turns out 2 were loose, odd.. but i snuged them up . so far so good my next mission is doing my clutch and fw .... clutch was ify when i bought the car and ive been stage 2 since the first 3 weeks i bought it so . smfw and stage 2 clutch on the way ... well if you like working on your own car (which i do) then just tackle it yourself . if you rather not deal with it then the quote you got is a great price
