strut bars, sway

Tronix

Recommended Posts

Ive finally got some pics of my front and rear strut bars..

Front is the Cusco C/F bar

Rear is a regular rear Cusco Bar..

I also just put on a Cusco Vacanza Rear Sway Bar.

Man the car feels so much nicer. The rear sway being the most beneficial.

Rear strut bar was actually really easy to install.. only required a little block cutout of the trunk deck.. installed it in about 15 minutes..

Rear sway was easy too.. only had to take one wheel off, and didnt have to take the exhaust off. piece of cake.. 30 min install..

Gonna order the front and rear lower arm bars and maybe a front sway next. does anyone know if cusco's lateral links, toe control rods or trailing arm links for the wrx work for the legacy?

Does that rear strut bar really make that much of a difference? Too bad you didn't do the front one and the rear sway bar as a base line.. and then put in the rear strut bar to see how much it helps.

And I'm going to venture an educated guess and say that those WRX pieces won't fit the GT.. I could be wrong, but again, an educated guess. :)

how much did you pay for them and where if you don't mind me asking?

I don't know if they ordered more C/F bars than mine, But mine took them 3 months to get from Japan.

Even so, Mach V (fastwrx.com) had great service. if they have something in stock i'm sure they are a great shop.

Franz.. The rear strut bar probably has the least effect of all the suspension mods, It just contributes to the overall stiffness of the car. One way of telling if its doing anything is to loosen the top bolts and listen to how hard those things clank in a hard turn. if theres alot of flex there they clank hard.

I'm racing SCCA Solo II in this car, so Every little bit helps. I did every bar and suspension mod possible on my last car (01 Celica GT) little 140hp FWD car that made fools out of the WRX's at the track. I had that car so stiff it was unbelievable. I'm just trying to get this thing up to 1/2 of the handling the Celica had.

Is that right? maybe I should come up to one of your events sometime and see what I can do and compare notes with your setup vs. mine.

what class are you running?

you should come up, we should get a meet together with autoXers somewhere so we can all learn a few things from each other..

The Club I race in has 3 National Champions. Its a crazy tough club. I'm playing catchup now with a new car.

FSP

Heh, I think it would make more sense if you were in ESP.. But I'd imagine you do well in FSP if you're a good driver. :)

Well, I dont get to pick what class I run in, I have to go by what the SCCA rules say. and our rules committee interpreters say FSP...

unfortunately they havent really classified the Legacy GT (turbo), so it falls under Subaru AWD Turbo NOC (not otherwise classified)

I'm not so sure it should be classified in ESP with EVO's and Wrx STi's, as those cars are setup with far better handling systems than a Legacy. but we'll see.

  • 4 weeks later...
I run ESP or STU depending whatever I feel like at the time, lol. The car should be in ESP/STU according to official SCCA rules. I was told there was a rule update sometime earlier this year or later last, just didn't make it to the handbook last I know. And yes, they can be competitice with EVOs and STi's. I have beat a few STi's and EVOs fairly regularly. :) I only have some brake work, sways (well did until I pulled them off per fittment issues I couldn't deal with anymore), rubber, and not much more. And it's a Wagon too. ;) Sure surprises people too! :D
