So... this thing popped up on CL 5 minutes from home and I decided to grab it.

158k, body is straighter than my blue '99... and unlike the salvage title on the blue car, the black car has a clean title.

Typical AZ paint fade on the top surfaces, but 5 minutes with a rag and some compound and I was able to bring a shine back to a small area by the gas door, so I have high hopes. Except maybe the hood...

Some a**hat has been sanding on it, so I don't know if I'll be able to bring it back, but I'll try. If not, respraying the hood black is a DiY no brainer, unlike the metallic blue on the other car. Not to mention the panels are straight...

Near new canvas top.

And tan leather, in decent shape...

Buuutt... as you can see, it's an automatic... :(

Fortunately, I have a manual parts car... :D

Plan is to swap the drivetrain (and VVT engine) from the blue car to the black car, then sell the engine out of the black car to recoup some $$. I don't think the auto trans is worth much, if anything. I'll probably also sell the black interior from the blue car, and it will become a parts car/spare shell, in case I ever wad up the NA on the track.

Oh, at this point, I have ~ $3k in both cars...

Did a little paint rehab today...

Prepped for the buffer (that's how I got it, I didn't do any sanding... )

After about 3hrs work with the buffer and various Meguiars products, it was looking much better...

Sanding scratches are still visible, but it cleaned up pretty well. Went from a 50/50 car to a 10/10 car. These pics actually make it look better than it is:

Fossilized coffee, and cigarette ash... YUK. :(

Simple green, carpet cleaner, upholstery cleaner, and Lexol for the seats. Stir vigorously for a few hours, and...

SWMBO and I took it for a late lunch at Red Robin... 60* and sunny, so we went top down. The car actually drives really well, and the automatic isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think this will make a nice keeper. Still amazed at what I got for the price. Had the guy put in a little more effort, he probably could have pulled another $1k out of it.

The happy herd... :D

One of these cars may well get an LFX someday, but it'll be the NC, if/when it happens. :D

I'm waiting for all the beta testers to work out the details... there's still not very many running LFX swaps (especially NCs) out there. I really like the idea of a stock LFX for a turnkey/reliable 300hp that will be easy to drive in the wife's NC, without the expense of an LS3/T56 swap.

I've still got lots to do on the other cars, though... NA still needs brakes for this track season, and I just spent that $$ on the new NB. I can recover some of that after I swap the drivetrain from the manual NB into the auto, but first planned trackday for the year is March, so I need to get busy after the holidays! :p

Why no Honda 3.5l 6cyl?

The swap kit is, shall we say, less than optimal...

Aside from some bodgy looking weld quality, and questionable mounting strategies, it has almost no ground clearance (most are finding the need to add a skidplate to protect the oil pan), and relocates the steering rack. There's also an expensive intake mod for hood clearance, and finally, it retains the questionable Miata trans. Even the 6 speeds have mixed reliability at 300hp.

I considered it, but not for very long... also, it's an NA/NB swap. Won't work in an NC. If either my NA or NB get a swap, it will be a Ford smallblock.

I've got that combo in my NA... you'll like it! :D

I've been debating whether to buy a happy meal to toss in while I'm swapping the drivetrain in the NBs. I don't really want to spend the $600 right now, but it's hard to pass up the opportunity to future proof the clutch while the engine and trans are already out...
