Can U post pics after a wax job?

Recommended Posts

I would like to see what "appearance effect" different waxes give to certain colors,..A lot of members say that this wax/sealant is good etc,..but hard to judge without a picture reference,...

I have an OB LGT and just tried Meguire's NXT Liquid wax and kinda like it, does give a "deeper" gloss to it but does look "plasticy" as OCDetail describes it as well in another post,..

I would like to give SP100 a try, but would like to see member's pics and opinions of their car after a wax job to see what "results" I can get without having to buy a whole bunch of different waxes,..

Liquid Wax on Stock

What is good about this16oz liquid wax (as cheap as $9 on sale in Hawaii stores) it that it contains caunuba (sp?) in it and is a very useful and easy wax to put on and take off. It takes off road tar, bugs, tree sap, etc and doesnt discolor plastics and rubber IMO (I try to avoid it). Goes on really easy, and once it hazes or dries (I leave it on a long time to ease removal), I wipe it off. There is powder residue on towel, but easy to just shake off.

It gives a really "wet look" to the paint and seems to really vitalize it. Protects really well but doesnt last too long. Contains oils in it to get the achieved look, so it attracts a lot of dust. But IMO, great for the cost and ease of use. I used this on my Mitsu Eclipse GSX for 14yrs and it kept my original paint looking new,...

I should grab some pix of mine- I detailed it last weekend. It's like a sheet of glass. Claybar, followed by Meguire's Gold Class, then a top coat of Mother's Carnauba Gold= Flawless Victory.

I'll top it off with Mother's again before the cold weather.

my last three cars were black, and as great as they look all cleaned up, it never lasted more than a few days.....

silver LGT for teh win! i've just been washing it with Turtlewax Zipwax carwash/wax, and it looks great.....even when its dirty! :D

i'd recommend 3M Imperial Handglaze before you wax - it will look like a mirror. i'm going to get some Griot's Garage Paint Sealer and use that twice a year, because i just don't have time for the 8 hour monthly detail job anymore....

here was teh SVX all detailed up (3M glaze, Meguiar's Deep Crystal wax):

here is mine and the steps i did:

Klasse - All in One arcylic polish

Klasse - High Gloss Sealant Glaze

P21S concours look carnauba wax

Of course i don't do all of that everytime. For the few times inbetween I just apply the P21S. Before winter hits I will re-apply the Klasse.

First of all we need to get the names right. It's S100 and P21S. Not PS100 or S21S00 or anything like that. S100 and P21S. They are essentially the same thing but have different properties in them for automotive use (P21S) and motorcylce use (S100). Whatever those properties do, they don't do anything to the apperance.

Pictures don't show a whole lot as far as differences from one wax to another. I've been experimenting with different waxes for years now. I've got a dozen different waxes and sealants that I use on a regular basis on cars because I have found that different products do look different on certian cars or colors, but on film they all look the same. The differences visually are so minor that it is not possible to say "this wax is the best". I can say that I prefer the look of Wolfgang sealant above any wax or other sealant on the market, but that is just my personal preference. Waxes look great, but they are too fragile. I've use everything from cheap $3 turtle waxes to $1500 Zymol waxes and they all disappear after about 5 or 6 weeks. A good synthetic sealant will last you for 10 to 12 weeks on a daily driver. Waxing you car should be just as much about the protection as it is the looks and Wolfgang delivers on that.

I'll post some pictures of different products on different colors tomorrow when I can get on a faster connection. My dialup at home is just too slow. I don't spend enough time on the computer at home to warrant paying for high speed, so I just wait till I get to work. www.OCDetails.com has plenty of examples and many of them have the products used with it. The pictures on my Legacy pages are all Wolfgang pictures.

Im liking Meguire's NXT right now because it really "doesnt" attract a lot of dust just sitting in my garage or parked,..Less maintanence,...

"Liquid wax" that Ive use normally gives a more "wet" look, but attracts so much dust...more maintanence,..

BTW..OCDetail,..is there any "downside" to sealants??? Ive heard talk about sealants not being good for "white" colored cars as it can "yellow" its look. Being a sealant, it doesnt allow the paint to "breath",...Any truth to this, or just jibber-jabber??

It is major jibber jabber. First of all, paint doesn't need to 'breathe'. It isn't alive and doesn't vent anything. That is something that paint jobs 30 years ago needed to do, but modern paints don't need to breathe anything.

The only sealant that I have used that yellows white paint is Meguiar's #20. It doesn't yellow it by design, but if you don't buff it all off then it can stain and leave yellow spots. Most sealants will darken the appearance of the paint and sometimes that will cause it to look more yellow. When you darken white you may sometimes bring out some of the yellow. My Acura was white and I experimented on it with dozens of products. Honestly, the only sealant that I didn't really like on the surface was #20. I used it under the hood and in the door jambs just because it was super durable, but as far as looks went I found that it didn't do much for me.

If you are wondering if sealants are any good for your car, then just take a look at it after you use NXT. NXT is a synthetic that contains no wax. In reality, it is a sealant. Sealants will not hurt your paint in any way. They are merely more durable and some of them are better looking than some carnaubas.

Keeping in mind that lighting and angles make a big difference, here are some product pictures:

There are a few examples there anyway. I have found a few produts that I feel work very well on every color and look great no matter what car. I stick to those. I haven't ever been disapointed by Wolfgang, so that is becoming my sealant of choice. Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection is also an awesome product. I use Klasse Sealant Glaze in the winter because it can last 4 to 6 months under the right conditions. I like using carnauba for car shows simply for that wet look, but Wolfgang does similar things. After all my testing I have determined that there is no such thing as 'the best product out there'. I just use whatever I feel would look the best for what I'm working on. Its all subjective.

Ahh yes, that does look like a Hennessy front end. But that spoiler just kills it for me. And I WOULD tell them that it looks horrible.

The spoiler just pulls my attention away ... I can't be objective about the rest of the car.

Wolfgang, last applied at least 4 weeks ago. Washed 4 - 6 times since then, followed by Wolfgang quick detailer. I'm really happy with the product.

sorry for the tire thread hijack , for anyone that can't tell from the tread pattern they are BFG KDW2s. I bought them because they got good feedback from FWD,RWD,AWD owners on tirerack's feedback forum. Only complaint that seems universal is that they are noisier than typical tires. Honestly I can't agree or disagree with that because I put the tires on right after the suspension work and I would attribute added noise from the coilovers as well. Handling seems good to me, no squishy sidewall flex, no tramlining and following grooves on the freeway even with 245s. I will be curious to see what the RE92s feel like when I throw those back on in the winter.

Im liking the NXT right now cause definitely attracts less dirt and dust just sitting around compared to my previous choice of liquid wax,...

Kinda impartial to the "plasticy" look though,...Wolfgang seems to be the sealant of choice and will give that "wet" look, I emailed Premium Auto Care to ask for total cost to ship to Hawaii,...$27 including shipping and LGT.com 10% discount,...

So,..Will give this a try to,..
