Im very happy with my basic GoPro Hero plus a suction mount btw. No reason to spend more for now.

yea, just use what you got. i used my point and shoot for the last one. worked just fine. just need a more stable mount.

Faded, thanks for the excellent footage! That sure looks like fun getting to show the v-8's what a little boxer 4 wagon can do on a track:)

it was just so fun driving it. trying out different camera locations. and just hanging with friends.

OP needs to change his license plate to

"750hpStangKilla"

hahaha, let me try one more event before i start changing my plates! hahaha...

and your turn looks much more banked! and down hill! and that fmic looks so aggressive! and that looks like an instructor giving you the cheat codes to go around the track faster...

I had a senior frickin citizen in boss 302 that I was tailing for 2 laps at Putnam Park. Something about those mustang guys :hide:

I am sure his old dick shrunk further seeing unworthy, unknown stock import passing his mighty pony

^His dick is likely viagra powered even if his nuts are saggy.

The suspension squat under boost in that turn is pretty hawt.

I noticed that the Porsche 997 Turbo AWD, the AMG CL63 and M3 all had instructors so I figured I better get one on the spot. Mark (STI instructor) hopped in and I beat them all by 4+ seconds. Great instruction, great car.

...and for taking direction I not only ran consistently below my first time goal but I got bumped to the intermediate group. Also, my car has enough power to get me into a LOT of trouble in a hurry.

In my opinion anyone going to Streets that is not an advanced or expert TRACK driver, looking to do something more than just have fun (meaning learn the lines of the track and improve their car control) should get an instructor for the day and keep shaving off time.

Good god. Where's the in-car instructors?

If you want a super grippy track day/summer tire, go with the Hankook R-S3. They're cheap (relatively) and they have good heating characteristics. They take a couple laps to warm up, and then they'll stick like glue. Although I love my Star Specs for autox, I would not recommend them on a LGT for a track day. They are very easy to overheat if you over drive them.

One session of follow the leader and one session in-car instruction then you are on your own for the other 2-3 sessions, unless you pay for more instruction. Clockwise (as in the video) I don't see OP overheating Star Specs on the track this time of year at his power level unless he got STUPIDLY aggressive.

Summertime? Absolutely. What a difference 70+ degrees ambient makes.

oh yes, i already feel like my car can get me into alot of trouble full throttle. if i had to give a number, i would say i was diving 80%-90%. not crazy sliding out of control. but barely touching the limited

totally agree with that. on my particular track day, we were averaging about 10-12 laps. the rs-3 guys could only get up to temp after 4-5 laps. and had a hard time keeping it. some going over. so interesting to learn about tire heating and stuff.

i think the most i would go for tires is DW or KWD2. i don't feel like i am the type to go super track crazy. i mean, i would love to go. but not to just shave a tenth of a second.

I was driving 80% till one of the instructors on Rcomps got on my ass then I pushed a little too hard, went off my line and got passed cleanly, quickly and efficiently

Hmm... Parts shave off tenths. A jump in class of tires shaves off SECONDS. KDW2 can be heated quickly but get a little greasy when overheated. Personally I find them adequate for track and tremendous for DD.

If I were you, and was dead set on only having one set of wheels/tires, I would use KDW2 long before any softer compound. My car begs for RS3 but I'm in no hurry. Next set likely to be Ecsta's or Star Spec.

That sounds awful. I would not go out on track with novice drivers and no instructors. Prime example: Mustang Douche.

Only advanced drivers should be going out alone.

Also, the Star Spec 2 is coming out in the spring in the US. From what I've read, they are the tire to have in Japan right now.

that is exactly why i think they will be perfect fit for me. i think the DW is more grippy in dry. and quieter. but the price is what sticks me to kdw2. may be one day i will try out both.

i am still waiting for your pics! hahaha...

you know what i have been thinking? i know the go pro has a stereo mic. is there a way to get an adapter. split the sides. put on mic on the intake (BOV) and other side near the bumper (exhaust) so i can get clear sounds from my car? or, rather, engine bay on one side and my vocal notes and comments on the other? i think that would be cool to try.

something like the picture below, but doesn't go back into 1 mic. so if you want commentary and me breathing deep in the turns you slide the bias to the engine side. i don't really like exhaust sounds as much, but love engine, intake, and bov sounds the most. that would just be my opinion. but yea. it would be like those dual audio tapes in my high school spanish class. english on right and spanish on left.

or something like this should help? i was just annoyed by all the wind. i wonder if my wife has any bad fur coats she wouldn't miss a small square patch... hahaha

Wow, mustang driver's a fricking douche! Haha good for you for overcoming his "725 hp" hahahahaha

Also good job for running train on basically every car you encountered!!! Haha you were basically unstoppable; that was awesome!!!!

Saving up for an identical car to do an identical thing... and I'm also in SoCal!!! Haha I can't wait until I've got my own LGT wagon and some track experience :)

To the OP: congrats on the track day =) I haven't watched the vids yet, so I can't give any feedback, but it sounds like you did well.

Is this finally the year that we can all do an HPDE together? =p Can we do Buttonwillow? Streets/springs is so far...

Max i got your msg on FB, I'll give you a call later this week. Just got back from NYC for the holidays, so exhausted and catching back up on work.

to be honest, since my first track day was streets of willow, i want to go back there my second time. gotta see what my times are and also see at the same track what upgraded brakes can do with same car setup. you know everyone wants to know what real world performance differences would be from LGT to STI brembo setup would feel like?

i want to test:

LGT with DWS

Brembo with DWS

Brembo with KDW2

Brembo w/ endless SSS pads with kwd2 (i think this is my final setup, what i assume will be perfect for me)

i think that would be my order...

I hope you are doing front and rear and a proportioning valve. You do not want to find out how unbalanced BBK antilock works at the track without a STI master. Ask me how I know.

If I were you, I would have just got some HP+ pads. I find it unfathomable that you want to stop at DW/KDW but want a BBK at your power level. You don't really think you were overheating those brakes going clockwise do you? The next Saturday event is clockwise/up the hill. Sunday will be counter clockwise. You should have at least good pads for that as bombing down the hill toward the skidpad can be pretty fast from what I have seen. I'm excited.

it is more bling... i know my skill level isn't enough to max out lgt.

i already have the full brembo set all ready to put on... hahaha... so might as well use it. yes, i do plan on swapping the master also.

You're better off buying new tires. You're going to have poor performance until you do so. Running Conti DWS w/Brembos vs DWS w/stock brakes won't decrease your stopping distance one bit. Brembos will help decrease fade, but thats it. From watching your videos, you never had any issues with fade at all. If you can activate your ABS under hard braking, whether you have Brembos or the stock brakes, you have reached the maximum level of longitudinal grip your tires can produce.

You'll be more impressed by the results if you follow this path (which is meant to be taken over time):

DWS to extreme summer tire (XST) w/stock brakes

XST with track pads, fluid (Motul RBF 600, ATE Superblue etc)

XST with Brembos

XST with Brembos and track pads

I bet you'd get to XST with the stock brakes and track pads and be happy. People love the bling of the Brembos. I sure as shit do, but you don't need them. Icy Pheonix ran their Spec B in Grand Am for 2 years without brake issues, so any LGT HPDEers should be able to do the same.

Get tires before brakes, what max is saying ^^ makes sense. Though I would rather have LGT calipers with better pads than Brembos and ok pads. Lots of brembo calipers get cross threaded from people using the wrong sized bolts, so it's hard to find a pristine set. Perfectly working LGT calipers > beat up Brembo's.

For tires, I've tracked with:

Bridgestone RE050a 215/45/18 - Greasy half way through each session, ok grip

Toyo T1R - 235/40/18 - better grip, less grease, more understeer

Escta MX 235/45/17 on 04 STI wheels - decent grip, lots of grease, gradual breakaway

advan neova 225/45/18 - Quick turn in, better grip, less grease, less understeer

Nitto NT05 245/40/18 - Best dry grip, worst wet grip. Most understeer, slow turn in.

Advan neova 235/40/18 - My fave & current setup - slightly less grip than the nt05s, but better turn in and less grease.

Blizzak 215/45/18 - No track days (lol), but tested on some onramp/off ramps. Surprisingly decent dry grip and fun to throw around a ramp (i have one on my commute home that has full visibility of the road ahead and has no merging). Predictable breakaway and gets good rotation. Felt comfortable tossing the car around on icy roads too, but nothing too crazy (just some small slides here and there).

PSI's - I start at 30-32 cold, and aim for 36-38 hot. I used to try to fiddle with pressures in between sessions, but since I was still learning to drive, my driving style changes made more of an impact than 1 or 2 psi changes. I wouldn't rely on PSI to adjust for oversteer/understeer. I prefer to use sway bars and camber settings.

Brakes: I've tracked with both LGT calipers and 2 sets of brembos front only.

LGT calipers w/ HP+ front and rear - decent stopping power, no fade, more than enough for stage 1 and 2. lasted 5 track days with 50%-60% thickness still remaining. Way better than stock pads, but not mind blowing.

Upgraded to Brembo front calipers with SS lines, ProjectMu H16-03 front pads and LGT caliper HP+ rear pads. These pads had more wow factor in braking, but shook the car pretty bad when braking from higher than 90+. Tried new rotors, still got shake. Tons of front bias, which made rotation super easy while trail braking. During DD driving, no shake, only when they are hot after a couple laps on a track.

Sold the calipers to NASIOC, and got a newer set of calipers. Tons better, 90% of the shake went away. The only shake remaining might be cuz my tires are old and wheels out of balance. Not that much front bias with the LGT HP+ rears. Still needed to trail brake to rotate the car during sharp turns, but it was very controllable.

I plan to install my rear brembos this weekend so I can run the sti HP+ pads at laguna next month. Looking forward to even out the brake bias and keep the car more flat.

During all of this, I also went through maybe 10 different suspensions (yarly), so that also had alot to do with the different handling responses I was going through at each event. I did a full write up on the differences of each suspension, but I have no idea what thread that's in.

yea, totally agree. but with my tires still being good. and i daily drive alot. and my budget is low. i am just going to progress and add what i have for now.

you are correct! my friends just setup my tires once... and i drove happy for the rest of the day. there was no need to keep checking and adjusting...

People love the bling of the Brembos. I sure as shit do, but you don't need them.

agree i love the bling, and i have them already.

so it's hard to find a pristine set.

a really nice set. repainted. rebuilt. ready to go. nobody can stop me from putting them on! haha...
