I'm going to be purchasing a sub box from this place: http://www.stereoclarity.com/car-audio/subaru-legacy-gt-hidden-enclosure/

Thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/hidden-sub-enclosure-group-buy-closed-no-vendor-status-87893.html

Since the mounting depth is limited to 6.25" I came down to two choices:

-Image Dynamics IDQ12 V.3

-JL Audio 10W3v3

I have an old school (2000) Precision Power PC2600 (600 watts bridged at 4 ohm's) that I'll be using.

Wanted to know if anyone has had experience with either of these subs and what they thought.

^that's what I was thinking too, but there are so many people that love their JL subs. Just wanted to make sure. I was leaning toward the IDQ12. I still have some Image Dynamics horns from 12 years ago so I know ID is very good stuff.

Your avatar is awesome! Used to have that exact picture in my high school locker. I actually was trying to find that picture a few years ago, but I couldn't seem to find it.

IDQ12 works very well in 0.85cuft sealed. Good output and tight sound.
Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

"That's not fair" says the JL10. Slowly walking away mumbling "sd" under his breath

PM'd

Yes, but he might come back for revenge with his best friend, the ported enclosure!

I have an IDQ12 for an HT sub. I modeled it for the car against the Dayton RSS265HO I have in a .85ft2 ported enclosure. No way could I match that output or extension unless I found 3ft2 in the trunk.

Hatchback here... I'd have to build a wall. If I go that far I'll run 10 Funky Pups. ;)

Ah...

I still can't believe my $40 Pyles are giving my ID 15"s a run & lmfoa, the price difference. I placed an order w/ John at AE. I'm curious to see how they'll hold up against the AE IB 15"s

How muffled would a subwoofer sound under all of that?? I'm coming from a hatchback..

I actually asked him that same question in an e-mail. This is what Steven at StereoClarity said:

"The trunk liner shouldn't really affect the sound all that much. As long as the cone of the woofer doesn't hit anything you should be ok. I think some people have altered the floor flap so that it's just carpet instead of solid plastic in a few areas. It really shouldn't matter too much as long as the cone doesn't physically touch anything. Some have even raised the floor up another 3/4" for clearance which is a great idea but requires some additional work."

You'll be fine. Read up on what it takes to isolate a space from noise and you'll see it takes very thick barriers made from very dense material to block low frequencies out. I have the OE fibreglass rear floor thing over my enclosure and subwoofer. Running with that in or out seems to make no difference to output. As stated above, just be sure the driver's cone or surround is not going to hit anything and you'll be okay. If you're running a ported enclosure you need to let that breathe with some air gap outside the port, or you'll encourage chuffing below the tuned frequency.

OP, we live in Minnesota. You're guna need that additional space above your spare tire lid to put your tow straps:P Ditch it & head with one of these. ...you'll never have to worry about the spare tire lid affecting your woofer:P
